He's a very good player but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Manchester city rather than us who were in the mix. Journalists frequently mix us up. Fernandinho is getting past it and rabiot would make a lot of sense for city. We don't need to replace matic, we only signed him last season. I'd certainly take rabiot here but I'm not sure which one of Herrera and matic we'd drop to play him. It'd be harsh on either.
Rabiot does not want to play in the Fernandinho role. That is one of his issues at PSG.

Then he is not for our team. He prefer to play left in midfield just like Pogba. If he cant or dont wany play at DM and in Herreras place then nothing.

Yeah, you're right, I remember reading that. Its Herrera's spot then likely as not if we are actually interested. In fairness our midfield is very short on numbers. Pereira's not good enough, mctominay is a decent see the game out option rather than a credible starter for games against decent sides and I don't know what's going on with Fred. Very little room for rotation there.

If Pereira left and this was his upgrade, I would be very happy with that.

-------Matic-------
Rabiot - Pogba

Would be fairly formidable.

Don’t fancy a left foot midfielder to play on the right side.

But a right footed one in Pogba can play on the left ?

Ok.
Let me ask you some questions,

When was the last time you see a left foot midfielder play on the right unless if they can use both feet? We saw a right foot midfielder play on the left side.

Pogba has adapted playing on the left and Pogba can use both feet. Has Rabiot adapted on the right?

Yes, he has been creating plenty on the right hand side when finding himself there.

And he is perfectly capable off of both feet.

There is literally no difference in any case. There are more instances of Right footers on the left owing to more players being right footed.

Rabiot has been playing on the left side through his career. And he’s a left foot player not either foot player so let’s not making things up just to defense yourself.

I never question a right foot player to perform better on the left side. My main concern is you expect a left foot player like Rabiot plays on the right side. You can talk whatever you want about the right foot player but Rabiot is a left foot player and he’s been playing on the left side through his professional career.

Give me proofs when he plays on the right side and name me left foot midfielders who plays on the right side.

He has played on the right side a lot basically when he replaced Verratti due to injury and Matuidi was starting, for example in the second part of the 2015/2016 season. Saul has played a lot on the right side and the reason you don't remember is simply because there is a lot more right footed players than left footed.

Saul plays on the right side as right midfielder not in a central area. Most of the time he plays on the left side when playing central.

Most of the time but not always which is the question that you asked.

Recently you even had left footed Bernardo Silva filling in for injured KDB in the LCMF role as well.

He's got Spurs written all over him, exactly the kind of signing cheapskate Levy would make, sign him up to a ten year deal and whack a monstrous price tag on him. He'd probably do well for them too.

Quote me when did I say “always’’?
That's my point you didn't ask for someone that always does it and I gave you an answer which you rejected because it wasn't always the case.

Heck at some point in their careers probably all of Mousa Dembele, Motta, Kondogbia, Mountari and others have played on the right side in the MF position.

Hasn't he already turned them down as they are not winning titles already?

Do not want, even on a free, just brings too much attitude. He's available for free atm and no big clubs have shown interest which is telling, he starts moaning here and we will never move him on.

Several big clubs have shown interest, the issue is that he is apparently asking for too much money.

I know he's a highly rated CM and I've not seen much of him so.. What is his best position? CM or CDM in a 433? Does he press? How's his work rate? And of Matic and Herrera who would be likely to replace?

Allegedly 10 million a year + a hefty sign-on fee for both him and his mum-agent.

I do value your opinion mate, I'm interested to hear what you think about potentially signing him on a free?

I'd swerve this one. Rabiot seems to have a pretty bad attitude or rather a massive ego and I get the feeling he'd be trouble. The wages he's asking for also make this a big no go for me.

he's undoubtedly a talented player but with Pogba in there and Herrera playing so well it might be akin to signing Sanchez and disrupting Martial

If we moved on Fred/Pereira then maybe a deal like this would have legs but we might be better served looking for a player who is able to play deeper in the Matic zone

saying that Matic has been very good the last couple of games I think

Seeing him upsets me, he has a massive ego and a big mouth but he also has a lot of character in the positive sense of it. By overstating his character flaws, I feel that we gave a slightly wrong picture of the issue, as far as I know Rabiot has never been an issue for his teammates, he is a little bit of a loner and doesn't disturb other players but he is a pain in the ass for the manager and the club because he is always complaining about something and needs to be managed.
As for the player, I don't think that there is a lot of better players that are 23 or below, so if the manager accepts the fact that he will have to actually manage a player then I think that Rabiot is worth the money. To me it's all about the manager, with Mourinho it would be a big no but Ole is a different man.

He would be a moany sod sitting on the bench. He’s not going to play the DM role and it’s debatable if he’s any better than Herrera

He's a very good player.

No idea if he has a 'bad attitude' or not. It's hard to know these things without being a supporter of the player's team.

I’d definitely go for him. Don’t think €10m a year is an obscene amount either. I’m not Sure if his trouble-making has been overstated either. Every time a player get’s into a dispute with their club, be it about money or whatever, they get this label. These people are shaping their careers. If fans think they are ‘not worth the trouble’ because they are negotiating a salary for themselves or generally know what they want from their career, that’s probably because we’re a bit spoilt and just demand players turn up to serve us.

We do need a midfielder, and picking one of his quality up for free, who is a bit flexible too (although I’ve heard on here that he ‘won’t’ play in front of the defence, whatever that means), makes sense to me.

Cheers homie. Honestly I hope that Barcelona walking away from him might have made him rethink his approach a bit and understanding that albeit he's very good, he's not that great that he can be that demanding. But like you said, he is immensely talented and fairly experienced already, it might be down to him getting a new challenge under a different manager in a different surrounding, PSG's dressing room has ever since Qatar came in been a place of bad chemistry and controversy.

I honestly believe that considering our limited budget and Ole's (even Poch's) ability to reach to his players alongside with a far better atmosphere in team dressing room, would help bring out the best out of him.

Heck we even have few of old geezer's on Caf that could help keep his mum happy :D

Rabiot is a nice guy, very talented. Good relationships with his teammates.

Just don't expect him to have a high sense of sacrifice and be a #6/destroyer/pure defensive midfielder.

His top priority is just to be happy on the pitch and play as a box-to-box. Also, I think Rabiot and Pogba share a lot of common features at various levels.

His mother is his agent and was aware of the Ben Arfa case last season.

I think Rabiot has a higher ceiling than Herrera purely on talent but Herrera brings a steel to midfield and certain intangiables that might not be there with Rabiot.

I think, over the course of a season in a more advanced role that Rabiot gets you more goals and assits he can also do good work defensively. He can be a good rotation option for Pogba and I am sure can be talked around into doing the odd job at number 6 in Matic's stead.

All for no initial trasfer fee, for me it is worth a shot. Ole seems the type who would be able to manage him correctly.
