The biggest con job of recent times should get his own thread. 80 million Euros + reported 16 million Euros wages for this (keep in mind this is a game his team dominated 6-0 as well)?

What is his standout ability except passing to the nearest man back and sideways?

Atrocious offside awareness and his touch lets him down @ 1:23

Getting his teammate into trouble @ 2:21

Passing to nobody @ 4:46

Giving ball away @ 4:51

etc.

And he generally seems to not know what to do before he gets the ball because he always dwells on the ball for seconds before doing something with it.

His dribbling is also average, usually lays it too far forward.

Will get terribly exposed at a higher level.

Discuss.

He is an excellent player wc potential. I assume he will struggle to keep focus in those games now knowing he is going to play for Barcelona in the biggest scenario very soon.

I think he is a fine midfielder, but the hype really got worse with age. We will see how he does though. I think he is the type of midfielder that will look good in La Liga.

Don't forget he lost 6-2 to Feyenoord. They should've bought Jens Toornstra instead. Poor man's Jordi Clasie he is.

On a serieus note, I think he will do well at Barcelona.

Now, time to sit back and watch our resident Ajax fans go mental over this thread.

Edit: typing with Dutch auto correct is hard.

I think I'm able to find a few games where Messi was even worse than this, this video doesn't mean anything. He has potential, if he will justify his price, we will see, but nowadays buying potential top players always costs more than 50M if you are a big team.

He’ll be class at Barcelona. Him and De Ligt are destined for the top.

You know just the day before you are going on a holiday, I am not really at work, I am already thinking about that pina colada I will have sitting in the swim up bar. I think something like that is happening here

I think Ajax losing to Heracles is quite funny, but I cant bring myself to dislike De Jong. He's just so nice and humble and the perfect little gentleman.

Ajax dominated as a team but he was average as usual, failing with any slightly difficult long ball, almost no line breaking passes and just passing it safely to the nearest man back and sideways. When the compilations are out, I'll post one.

He was good, the talent is obvious.

Still a long way to go to become a top player though

Doesn't he have the same strenghts as Arthur? I dont think Barca needed him. Rabiot will be a good pairing though .

Yeah, you could argue that a bloke named Messi is a bit better. But Griezmann didn't have to play him directly.

Griezmann is a bit mental, to be fair. I don't really know what to make of this statement.

Even in midfield there is Modric, Kroos, Iniesta, etc he has gone against.
The difference is Griezmann had to go at de Jong and stop him from dribbling/passing. I think defending de Jong is harder than someone like Kroos. Modric and Iniesta are more offensive, at Ateltico he wouldnt be the one putting pressure on them all the time like he did in that game. Also with Real/Barca, you dont focus on a player as much as Holland where De Jong makes them tick

Phenomenal player and would have been perfect to replace Matic here. Missed chance again for a type and quality of player that rarely pop up on the market

Nah... that title goes to Coutinho at £140m. Somebody please tell me they did not pay that
