1 year. Excellent.

We desperately, desperately need better but we haven't got the cover to ship him out immediately.

I'm fine with it. With Darmian and Valencia probably leaving, it makes sense to keep him as depth.

He shouldn't be first choice next season however.

Great stuff. Reliable player and obviously a great influence on the dressing room.

I'm totally fine with any player from the Fergie era having a contract for life.

Good, he can cover both fullback positions.

Dalot is nowhere near ready to make the right-back position his own, so it makes sense to extend Young's contract.

This is a good move by the club.

As others have said, with Darmian & Valencia likely leaving in the summer it makes sense to keep him for an extra year before replacing summer 2020. Have other areas we need to improve this summer just as much as if not more than full back, let’s not have to attempt to have to bring 2/3 FB’s in on top of that

Experienced head, way past his best & for some reason lost all crossing ability despite it being decent in the past. Always puts a shift in & when needed loves a bit of shithousery to help us out

Good extension and makes loads of sense. Offers good cover in both positions, is a very good presence in the dressing-room and isn't causing us to break the bank on wages.

Good decision. If they signed him for 4 id be worried. Hes a great player to have for rotation and always have the right attitude, even at times when LVG and Jose benched him, hopefully we can ship Valencia and Darmian and bring in an experienced RB for Dalot to compete and learn from, and have Young there for depth.

Will be a good rotation option with Dalot.

Hopefully he has an uptick in performance too celebrate his new deal like Jones did at the weekend.

If Darmian and Valencia leave and another RB is to come in the summer then this is fine. But we cannot persist with him as first choice if we have any ambition.

Should've done it on Friday so we could release all the anger in 1 go.

Anyways, it's good bit of business. Just make sure he's not first choice next season by investing well in the RB position.

Well deserved.

1 year suits all parties.

On Top of all of that, despite the split opinions on extensions for likes of Jones & Young.

The whole situation appears like a sign that Utd is a much better place to be than 2 months ago with the club sorting business out & creating more stability

He's a very poor fullback but he covers both sides and apparently being liked in the locker room is validation for a contract these days. We knew it was coming so it's whatever, I just pray the plan isn't for him to be our starting RB next season as it's a massive weak link in this side.

Anyone else think he’s actually better defensively than he is going forward? He’s an intelligent defender, and the only issues I can think of come when he’s caught out up the pitch.

Played a full world cup for his country and still first choice for his club in his mid-30s. He's having more game time in the last 12 months than he has had in the last decade and gives everything he's got for the cause. Model pro, well liked by the dressing room. Important player. Great news.

With both Darmian and Valencia leaving it's only normal that he stays for another year. We can still bring in another RB.

Couple this with the Jones contract and the strategy starts to become clear. Of the players in your squad, five have Premier League winners medals (De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young) and you've just signed three of them to new deals in the last two months, regardless of their standing in the squad and ability to play regularly and take you to the level required. Solskjaer hasn't been publicly confirmed as your new long-term manager but these kind of decisions make it obvious to me that you've got the band back together behind the scenes and are interested in retaining what's left of Ferguson's squad.

Can't cross a ball to save his life but not the worst cover to have either side of the full back position.

I share similar sentiments. We should be down to 3 fullbacks come the summer - Dalot isn't quite ready yet, while the established Shaw still has the injury question mark to shake off. Young has his limitations, but is competent on both flanks and provides experienced leadership within the squad. A great rotation option all things considered and saves wasting money on a Danillo/ Zappacosta fringe player

I think we will probably have to buy an established right back though, with Young and Dalot being the rotation options

What? That makes feck all sense considering one of them was signed before Mourinho was sacked, one of them is very likely leaving and one of them is arguably the best in the world in his position, so it would insane to just let him leave.

So that's two players/contract extensions (one of them being one year long) you're basing your guess about our strategy on.

He’s been decent and is a good option for the squad. Definitely deserves a contract extension.

Makes total sense, although there's a lot of deadwood in the squad we can't ship everyone out at once. I'm certain at least 3 defenders will leave this summer (Darmien, Rojo and Valencia) we cant get rid of any more. We need to sign 1 world class centre half and 1/2 full backs to help Shaw, Dalot and Young
