€14m gross p.a. is the latest number being reportet. That is something like £250k per week and not outrageous at all.
Not if he cures cancer and cleans up the globe. Otherwise (trust me on this) it's fecking outrageous.

Every single one of them? Oh man, is that why Juve flogged the moment they got Ronaldo in?

Juve better win the CL this season, otherwise those sponsors might go chase the next shiny object.
Obviously an expression, I didn’t actually talk to every Juventus fan... but yes, signing Higuaín for 90 million was a big success for Juventus. You believing it was the complete opposite shows how disconnected you are from reality

Adidas signed for 8 years... you believe they’re going to abandon them and breach the contract if a team with about 10% chance of winning the Champions League does not win the Champions League?

Win the Champions League or be a complete and utter failure that ruined the club forever, that’s a great standard you have for Juventus’s season right there. fecking hell

That's basically been your standard for Messi the last couple of years. Considering you feel Ronaldo is superior to him, surely at least the same applies?

That’s not my standard for Messi at all ffs.

It’s one thing to say that to be the best in the world for a year you need to be in the elite in the biggest competition in the world, it’s another to say that he either wins the competition or he’s been a complete failure that’s not worth the money payed for him...

You will never see me argue Ronaldo should win the Ballon D’Or if he has two average games and Juve go out to Atlético for example.

Please read more carefully next time so as to not completely misunderstand what I write.

Sanchez seems cheap compared. In serious note , a free player can always demand a bigger salary.

Ramsey is just over-rated.... Not sure what Juve saw in this guy.... He's a notch below world class in my opinion and does not deserve such a hefty salary. Then again, Juve thrive on free transfers.

It’s a signing on fee over the course of his contract. So not all wages. No one deserves 100k a week, but that’s an all together different argument.
I think he’ll do very well there. Building a team doesn’t mean they all have to be world class, just that they can function to compliment each other.

The thing is, there is no chance of them selling him on for some money either..

At those wages, they are basically counting on him being a first team starter for the next 3-4 years.... and I don't think he is good enough to be a starting midfielder for a team trying to be the best in Europe..

He'll be alright in the Italian league.. Juventus are clearly the best side there.. he will do a decent enough job..

Juventus clearly feel he is worth the wages...

400k a week seems to coming from the English/Arsenal media, Italian media is claiming it’s a lot less than that.

I could have sworn you wrote on one of the threads (maybe De Jong) that Barcelona just have to win the CL considering their wage bill and transfer spend, otherwise their season will be a write-off. If you hadn't written that or I misunderstood, I sincerely apologize.

Of course not. It’s impossible to put that pressure on a club to HAVE to win the CL in a season, they do have lots of pressure on them but that’s due to the continuous failure there in the past few years more than anything else.

Often this confusion happens since English clubs report wages before tax and Italian clubs report wages after tax.
Perhaps it’s just that, I’m not so sure. Went to read the reactions to this on a juve forum and they seem happy with the wages, read a comment saying he’d be getting just a bit more than Khedira.

I think Emre Can is also on pretty big wages.

So terrible that the duo Pjanic-Khedira destroyed your midfield in the 2016/17 QFs (i.e. when it counted).
Paradoxically we have done much worse against you with the Pirlo, Vidal, Pogba and Marchisio midfield.

The truth is that when they all played together (so in Allegri's first season, 2014/15) Marchisio was at his peak, Pirlo was way past it, Vidal had his worst season (and in fact we all wanted him gone because his mind was elsewhere) and Pogba was still some steps below his peak form of 2015/16. So the myth of the amazing midfield was actually just a myth: they were amazing but at different times.

Do you guys realize you're saying Higuain was a failure because he's been replaced by fecking Ronaldo?

He's been dumped because one of the two best players in the world just arrived and for respecting Financial Fair Play (yes, for some weird reason we have to respect it differently from other clubs) we needed to sell. We sell at least one player each summer to boost the financial statements rather than to actually cash in.

With hindsight I still do think those were 90 millions well spent. He banged in 30+ goals in his first season (which is something we hadn't seen in a while from any of our strikers) and still managed to get 24 goals in the second season despite playing as an attacking midfielder behind Mandzukic rather than as a striker.
OMG, this place is full of gobbi.

So tell me why Juve got rid of Higuain and not Mandzukic? Forse perche era un bidone sovrappeso che solo marmotta poteva spendere 93 milioni per sto panzerotto. :nono::nono::nono:

Also that line about respecting Financial Fair Play is ironic in the extreme in this particular thread, don't you think (HINT: read the subject line).

Higuain was not a success - if you recall he was the missing piece to win the CL (because Juve didn't need Higuain to win the scudetti) and he obviously wasn't the level required. Also, you got to remember this was pre-Neymar money, Higuain was actually the third or fourth most expensive signing ever, so he definitely did not live up to the hype.

He is not going to receive what is described by the media here. No one on their forum is complaining about the wages, and they probably know better.

So after all the drama, turns out he actually gets about £145k/week after tax.

Nothing to see here. I’d even argue that’s lower than expected for a free agent. I’m going to assume his signing bonus isn’t included in that £145k because if it was then it would be an embarrassingly low actual wage.

But of course that won’t stop the £400k/week talk; that number is now associated to him forever. Ornstein being an Arsenal shill in the media isn’t surprising given how many snippets he gets from them. Scratch my back and I scratch yours. Shame though.

Aren't top tax and social security rates about 57% in Italy? So your 145k per week is about 335k gross. Add on signing on bonus spread over the contract, close enough to 400k per week gross.

Why you focus on net is weird, the cost of the contract is gross.

First of all, BBC saying the £400k is a basic wage. I also read somewhere his tax bracket is 43%. I'm sure both club and player will find some way of minimising their exposure.

I really dislike when media quotes salaries in net amounts. Why tf would I care about his take home pay? I want the club cost.

I've always rated him very highly. The salary is a bit ridiculous but Juve must be getting used to spending big after the Ronaldo deal

It's €14m before tax, plus bonuses, according to all italian media. It is a lot, but Ramsey is arguably in the top 30 midfilders in the world and a free agent.

Completely agree. In any profession it’s the gross that matters, net is quite frankly irrelevant to everyone but the individual.

Do you go to a job interview and they tell you your pay is £45k after tax? Of course not.

It has to include signing on fee divided by the time of the contract. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Even that is bonkers though. Assuming a 200k/week salary, the signing on fee would still amount to 41.6m.

Fair enough, I haven't read the reports, BBC or otherwise.

Italian income tax rate is 43%, but then there's social security of 9.49% and a municipal tax of up to 3.33% and some other shit of 0.9%. I stand to be corrected on the numbers, but I think I'm close enough. Approx 57% all in, at marginal rates.

Embarrassingly low net/take home pay of £145k per week?

Without knowing the Italian tax brackets for high earning individuals, I’d safely assume it’s around 45% for top earners or thereabout. That’s a gross salary of closer to £250k-£300k per week (just under). Even if he was a free agent, that’s still around the same amount the top earners are getting paid in football, around the world (Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar & now Sanchez aside). & this is Aaron Ramsey. Not a world class player.

& as you say, that’s probably not even with any potential signing bonus included.

Because with Mandzukic we could make 15 millions at best, and Higuain didn’t get along with Allegri very well as he himself admitted in his first interviews after the transfer to Milan. Plus Allegri clearly has a secret relationship with Mandzukic.

As to the subject line, well, he’s not earning 400k per week, but 250k GROSS.
The correct net wage is €7 millions per year, that’s what Di Marzio & co. are reporting and that’s in line with our wage structure.

It's 7.5 million net + bonuses according to Di Marzio, that would make him second highest earner in Serie A as Higuain is in PL now.

Will be interesting how much this will bite them when other players start asking for bigger wages.

Yeah, for Ramsey, as a free agent, including signing bonuses £250k - £300k per week is probably just about “ok”. (assuming signing bonuses are included).

But yeah, they’re going to have tough negotiations in the future, when it’s time to renew.

That says more about the tax rate in Italy than what Ramsey actually makes. The outrage in this thread is all about how such a player is getting paid “so much” and people are mentioning Ronaldo and Messi wages for reference. Based on this thread I doubt many people care about Juve’s cost on this deal.

If those top earners were available on a free then you would see their wages move into a completely different level than the “top earner” level you’re used to. Case in point, Sanchez. You wouldn’t have even mentioned him alongside Messi//Ronaldo/Neymar if he had been bought and not basically arrived on a free. If Messi/Ronaldo/Neymar ran down their contracts like Sanchez did, then they would be getting at least double what Ramsey is getting from Juve having done the same thing. That’s my point.

Also I said it would be embarrassingly low if the 145k already included his signing bonus.

It's a mistake by Juventus to pay Ramsey that much and it's more proof that they're no longer the best run team from a transfers perspective.
