Hopefully its only a one year deal. He was horrible v Leicester. I read that Ole likes what he brings to the dressing room though so there is that.

I could live with a one year deal. He's a decent option to have as a fullback or even wingback,if we ever revert to 3 at the back.

Having Young being capable of backing up either fullback positions is a great option to have.

I would like to see a quality fullback brought in during the summer though.

Shocking that we're keeping him for next season. Even if it's as 2nd choice (which I have my reservations about) he's still going to be taking time away from Dalot to develop. Dalot gets pushed to 3rd choice if we sign a first choice RB.

If we don't sign a RB then Young is going to be first choice next season and all hopes of challenging for the title can be dashed before the season even starts.

He may have been a great servant but he is not good enough to play for United anymore

Has he been a great servant?

At his best he's been serviceable. Has been average to below average throughout his whole career with us. Yeah he's been with us for a while but he's been massively overpaid for what he's given us back.

One-year deal is right assuming we are losing both Darmian and Valencia. Surely it makes sense as I'd say he brings more to the squad than they do now? Just because City managed to do a four-for-four on full backs in basically one transfer window doesn't mean it'll work for us or that we can afford it. The safer thing to do is to give the best cover option, in this case Young, another deal and try to sign at least one quality fullback. This would give us Dalot, Shaw, Young, a new fullback and then cover from the youth system for the next season, before Young would ideally be replaced by another fullback signing the season after.

We will also likely need at least a CB, probably another CM, and possibly an offensive player as well which is going to eat up so much of the cost. I can't see us getting two expensive fullbacks at the same time.

Under SAF he was a fairly underwhelming winger, he was usually passable but nothing more than that. Post-SAF I think he's earned himself the title "good servant", although that's subjective, because he's always acted professionally and never complained about game time. He always given it his all when called upon (which is far more than he should've been) under LvG and Mourinho, even displacing some more luxurious and expensive signings due to his hard work, grit and determination. Most importantly has adapted to the various positions he's been asked to play and been effective for the most part. He's not the greatest jack-of-all trades player we've ever had but he's stepped in when we needed him and has even filled in as captain, I think he's been a good servant to the club when you look at the context of his contributions.

Keeping Young and having Dalot would be an ideal compromise 'if' we sign a new left back. Come summer and we sign a CB, winger and a CM with no new left footed fullback then its a disgrace. The worst part is Glazernomics mean we probably will not sign a new left back. If we keep OGS he needs to be ruthless in the summer and sign players for competition.

Again, for me the most concerning part is that our coaching staff cannot see that the man is done, a complete liability.

Not looking forward to next season with this oaf being our main RB again.

Congrats on your contract!

Still genuinely at a loss to see why everyone's glad he got a 1 year extension, he's just awful.

Nobody worked harder to try to pull it back but absolutely awful in defence. You can't get away with just not having a right back at this level.

Put one good cross in and shoved that slimey shit Di Maria into the hoardings, other than that did nothing but run his mouth and clap his hands, nowhere near good enough for the level we are aiming for.

Disagree with most on here, thought he was one of few who actually put a shift in tonight.
None of our players werent trying tonight.

They lacked in quality and temperament though.

Young isn't just good enough.

Worked his socks off but they played on him something rotten tonight, just not good enough at the level we need to be.

We actually gave him a new contract. Who cares about quality as long as you've got a great bunch of lads in the team

We don’t need a shift. We need players who can actually do their job. Defensively and attacking wise he fell short.

We gave this guy a new contract.
Let that sink in.
Absolutely horrific player.
Aslong as we keep rewarding dross players like him with contracts we will always continue to be erm. Shit.
Should have been sold years ago.
Cant dribble,cant cross,cant defend.
Terrible.

Another game, another goal he costs us. He is one of the worst players i've ever seen play for us.

Absolute embarrassment to this club

The fact that he is not only the first name on the team sheet but is also captain and has just had his contract renewed is a prime example of how poorly run this club is. Disgraceful player.

Not good enough unfortunately, but that's nothing new. He's been a good servant but we need someone of higher quality there.

Let's just fall one more year for the same illusion the man's a full back with actual skillset of one.

That's a bit harsh - he's up the pitch by instruction trying to attack, not his fault that we lost the ball cheaply - and he still busted a gut to get back.

Anyway, he was absolutely miles better then Shaw, but again, predictable responses in predictable threads.

Cant believe how much stick he is getting.

He had no protection from any of his team mates and was the only one willing to commit and go forward looking for a goal.

I agree he's not good enough but in comparison to the rest of shite in front of him tonight he was better than them all.

He's just a waste of time. Persisting with him at RB til the end of next season shows the utter lack of ambition from the club.

He can be covered by a defensive winger.

Mata couldn’t cover him like Lingard could.

He’s miles past it and shouldn’t be near starting Champions League ties.

I agree with this and I've been banging this drum for years. We lack ambition to be the best, which is why we're giving contracts to rubbish likes Young, Jones and Mata

I would agree, but when its the same thing every single game it's no longer 'not his fault'. Almost every game he costs us a goal letting his man get in behind him.

He's getting stick because he was the player with most chances to cross and he wasted each and every opportunity with the exception of one in the first half. He just closes his eyes and hopes for the best when receiving the ball on the flank.

But he's an attacking full back - he is going to get caught up the pitch by design.

There's a massive difference in someone running off the back of him (which does happen) and him being caught up the field

We were shit all over the park but let’s blame young I guess because he is a converted winger playing full back.

It's baffling how this guy consistently starts and captains Manchester United. He's awful and I've had enough of the "oh he works hard". We need quality not players who can put a shift in. Cost us a goal because he constantly moved to the middle of the pitch leaving both Di Maria and Bernart free and when he got forward, he couldn't cross a decent ball bar that one cross. This guy is an embodiment of the mediocrity we've come to accept as a club. Until we buy a quality right back, we will still be struggling in these type of games.

He works hard, but just has not got the quality.
