Dendoncker has only just come into the side because he wasn’t good enough. He’s absolutely not a player we should be considering unless he massively improves.

So why was he bought? That’s a simplistic assessment. How about because it took him a few months to settle, and now he’s in the team he’s showing why he was bought? Or did he learn to be ‘good enough’ in 3 months thanks to Wolves teaching how to play footy from scratch?

It’s obvious why he was bought. It’s also obvious that football isn’t linear, and every signing doesn’t work how one would want.

I’m talking more from his time in Belgium, anyway. He was one of the better talents, no doubt, but the pool is a little shallow in the Pro League in the past few seasons. He’s tall, robust, and tireless, but his kind is still a dime a dozen. Like I say, he’ll need to improve a lot to become an option for us.

He plays like if you put Yannick Bolasie in the body of a defensive mid. I think I must be missing something because I don’t seem to see what others see and absolutely do not want him in our team. I’ve not seen him in a game, only highlight vids so maybe that’s part of the problem but he seems to make poor choices and can sometimes get away with it because he is such a big unit that others can’t handle the physicality. He just seems way more erratic than anyone I would want playing in our midfield and I also think he wouldn’t play well with Pogba. Two CMs who like to hold up the ball and dribble seems like it would be too much and slow our game down. Not that he’s a bad player I just think there are better fits for our team and better ways is spending 80mill.

I wanted him back when we were playing under Jose but I don't think we need him anymore with the way Ole has us playing and how I believe we should be setting up for the future.

We desperately need a couple of these types of players in our squad. PSG out fought us tonight, they were more physical and easy quashed any threat we had. We need to start mining the French league. They are world cup winners for a reason.

And that's why we need this guy.... Ndombele could partner up with Pogba and also play in the Pogba role when Pogba is out injured or suspended.

A player like him has immense physical qualities that we lack in midfield against the very best.

He would be a really good purchase for United. I'd love to see him here.

I watched some highlights from the PSG game, he seemed to be trying to play the deep lying playmaker role. Would he be a Matic replacement or a Herrera successor?

Herrera although I wouldn't of thought he's as defensively disciplined as him

maybe you are right, but i think it would be nice to add some other creative and penetrative force to our midfield. In most games pogba is our only creative part, why not to help him. PSG also have draxler and veratti, both capable dribblers and playmakers. Herrera has been amazing since Ole reign, but his playmaking abilities are not that strong in my opinion.

I like Herrera a lot but I think the next evolution in our midfield should be him being replaced with a more controlling the tempo kind of midfielder. Like Modric/later years scholes/ Eriksen.
I dont know much about either but sounds like Aouar is that kind of player?

Likewise, he has the mobility and puts work in but has great craft on the ball, we need more of those players with a bit of guile.
Agreed. What happened to the Verrattis, Modrics, Thiagos, Xavis, Iniestas, Silvas and Pjanics? Why does it always have to be Freds, gaints and midfielders that are either loose or slow off the mark?

Would love to know how people would fit Aouar and Pogba in the same line-up, because Aouar takes up very similar positions during a game. Currently Aouar is less of playmaker than NDombele, so I'd love to hear an explanation why he is a better fit than NDombele. He's an excellent player and I think there would be a place in our starting XI with Pogba, if we line up in a certain shape, but he wouldn't work with our current 4-3-3.

I would like to know this as well, because he to me does seem to love to drift off to that left hand side ala Pogba and the only place I could see him really fitting would be as a replacement for Herrera but we’d need to change the way we play as he can’t do what Herrera does. In all honesty he looks to me like he’d be a better fit for (hold up whilst I struggle to get this out) City... (spits in disgust)

Both Aouar and Ndombele both look like great players, I just personally think Ndombele would be a better fit for us but again as a replacement for Herrera a player I actually like it just seems like maybe there is a better answer to that position.

The only way they both would work IMO is like this:

De Gea

RB - CB - CB - LB

RM - CM - Aouar/Pogba - Pogba/Aouar

SS/10

ST
Pogba has played as a LM for Juventus and so has Aouar for Lyon, but since they both like to drift to the left hand side, there's a good chance that in any other system they get in each other's way. There's also no certainty that a 4-4-1-1 with both would work and unless either shows some sort of comfortableness on the other side, this seems like a waste of resources considering other positions we need to fix. I'd love to see us sign Aouar, but not for him to sit on the bench or play him as the deepest midfielder, where he wouldn't be as effective.

You could definitely be right. I don’t think he’s a terrible player. I just would rather see someone like Neves or Eriksen instead. I feel like a more penetrative passer would be able to take some of the creative burden off Pogba while complimenting him better. It will also be interesting to see what we have in Fred at some point.

That's the last thing we lack.
Herrera and Matic don't have anywhere close to Ndombele's ground coverage skills. He's also better on the ball than either and can can actually drive a team forward. He was also brilliant against the same PSG we got schooled by.

Who did PSG have in midfield who had great physical qualities? More than anything we need technique intelligence and passing ability. Physical strength and pace would be a bonus but it's not all that important for a CM and Pogba and our front 3 give us enough.

PSG had a CB in midfield who is very mobile and quick. Marquinhos not only marked Pogba out of the game with help from Dani Alves he also played the role better than Herrera or Matic.

Well that's just blatanly false.
He scores more, assists more and create more chances.
He's also overall a better dribbler around the box as his dribbling doesn't rely on power as much as Ndombele's and can be effective from a static position in a 1 on 1 with a fullback.

Ndombele is way more similar to Pogba than Aouar is, that said Pogba is a lot more complete as he can be a goalscorer and is a much better passer and creator while Ndombele is more powerful and physical.

Actually reading my post would have helped before proclaiming that it is false. Playmaking ability isn't defined by those traits. Players like Busquets and Carrick didn't score that many goals, didn't assist a lot either or had key pass numbers that are comparable to Messi or what Özil used to have, nonetheless they were or, in Busquets' case, still are great playmakers. And by the way I think Aouar will develop into a fine playmaker, who will dictate the game from further forward. There's also hardly any difference in NDombele's and Aouar's key pass numbers and assists.

And I'm not even talking about statistics but about watching Lyon plays.
Ndombele isn't a playmaker, he barely ever attempts things without having space in front of him hence why he struggles more in possession and shines in these big City/PSG games where he can hit them on the counter and has space to play with.
He's not as creative as Aouar and not as good in tigh spaces.
Aouar would have double his numbers of assists if Traore wasn't so bad in front of the goal.

I guess the stats must by lying then because it shows that M'Dombele actually has slightly higher pass competition and pretty much identical key passes. Couldn't you also say that if Traore wasn't as bad in front of goal N'Dombele would also have more assists? Bit of an odd argument really. There's not much between the two. They're both very good midfielders.

Just me, or can he be compared to Keita? No one have mentioned it in this thread, and I find that a bit weird.

Hmm I suppose there are similarities to what they do but I would say Keita at RB at least was probably a lot more attacking than Ndombele. Ndombele, faster, stronger and more skilful.

Ndomblele isn’t the profile of midfielder for me. I’d love one of the Atletico boys personally, although no chance we’d get any.

Basmati Busquets also looks very interesting for the role further back, but I suspect we’ll give Garner a proper go there. He’s been with more squads than any youth player this season, and is the youngest of them all too. For a DM to be as involved as him at 17 shows he’s very highly thought of here.
