City Quadruple or Liverpool Prem winners - what is worse?

The dislike for Liverpool is blinding some fans.

If City won the quadruple they will have beaten the treble that we’ve won, i.e., broken our record and planted their name in the history books. City is a team that can continue to spend big and as much as fans here naively believe they will amount to nothing but the truth is their trajectory is currently rising and ours isn’t. Just like how we knocked Liverpool off their perch who’s to say City can’t do that to us? It’s better if we maintain at least one unbeaten record in the history books and preserve Sir Alex as the greatest manager.

As for Liverpool, it’s one PL after nearly 3 decades, so what if they win it? In terms of League victories we are still ahead.

City winning the quadruple will cement their place in the history books but Liverpool winning the league won’t.

Taking it too lax here. Both are terrible. City winning the Quadruple and keeping on winning might spawn hordes of supporters and permanently change the sentiments for decades to come.

We really need to beat these fecker for the FA cup that way it really wouldn't matter them winning the league. It's all up to us as its always been. Simple we have to win the Fa cup because as much as we hate Liverpool I don't think some of you on here understand the ramifications of a city quadruple. It just can't happen I'm sorry.

I'd prefer Liverpool didn't win the league thanks. Historically we're competing with them whereas city are barely on the radar. City won't win the quad anyway.

To stop City repeating the treble we did in 99 (don't care about league cup) I would prefer Liverpool win league.
I don't see us beating City in FA cup so need to hope they draw a Barca or PSG in next round of CL.
Both outcomes are a shit sandwich though.

I really think the question is moot. I don't think either will happen and, thus, won't worry about it.
City are favorites in both domestic comps. If they don't win the league it goes to Liverpool. In which case City go hell for leather for the CL. The result? The normal bland happy summer for the 'unaffiliated'. Something bordering on a human rights violation for the rest of us.

And some people are more hung up on trophy chasing and records than good old fashioned rivalry

True, but aren't you worried some of you are burying their heads in the sand a bit too much?

City might be starting a dynasty here. They already have more League Cups than you have, although granted they don't count for much. It's a realistic possibility that they'll win 5 or 6 Premier Leagues in one decade (2012-2022). They'd still be a country mile behind you in total Premier Leagues, but add in a quadruple this year, potentially another CL in a few years, some domestic cups here and there, ... I agree that it's nothing to worry about at this moment, but deny reality too long and you might be in for a rude awakening in 10-20 years.

Once again, fully agreed that it's not something you should be worrying about right now, but still. A quadruple isn't something to take lightly imo, and it could cement this City side's legacy as one of the greatest English teams ever (if you look at the 17/18 and 18/19 season combined, who knows what'll come after). It's understandable that you don't want Liverpool to ever win a PL in your lifetime, but in the grand scheme of things, one title might mean less than a City quadruple, seeing as it's highly unlikely we'll beat them two years in a row even if we do it this year.

It's all hypothetical of course, so a bit of a stupid question. If you'd ask me right now, I'd say City wins the PL but don't win the CL, which would probably be an acceptable outcome for 99% of the United fans. Lots on here go on about that they don't care about City since they bought their success, which is true of course, but I think a lot of football fans don't really care about that. The young ones who see them racking up trophy after trophy at the moment certainly don't.

Would rather Liverpool win the league. That’ll just fade into history at some point. City winning the quadruple would stand the test of time.

This.

Apart from instantly making them the best English team, the quadruple would attract players, fans and sponsors. It would help them establish themselves big time.

Fortunately, it's highly unlikely - between 5 and 10 % chance, imo.

City quadruple, we do this every year. Fear emerges that they might just do it and it lasts until they eventually fail. Anyway neither of those things will happen probably.

I'm with most of the posters here. I'm from an Asian country (cf my username) and nobody here gives City the time of day - everyone's annoyed by them and thinks they're only big now because they won the lottery. Even if they do win the quadruple, they'll still have a long, long way to go before they match United, Liverpool's and Arsenal's history and prestige. Among my friends we give our Chelsea-supporting mates a lot of stick for having their history only really properly start in 2003, for example. And Chelsea have been champions multiple times since them, and have won the CL too.

Sure, it'll (the Quadruple) will go into the record books. Leicester wrote themselves in too with the 2016 title. Does either accomplishment instantly elevate either club above us? Hardly.

But Liverpool winning the title, now that would be grim. Beyond every other Liverpool fan being insufferable (even here in Asia!), they're the real rivals with the history to match us. The noisy neighbours across the road who just got lucky with their oil money? They'll have to plod along for another 10-20 years before they're anywhere near where we are. Imagine Espanyol suddenly getting bought over by the Saudis and eventually rising to challenge for the title. It would take them decades before anyone acknowledged them as on the same level as Barca. It's just not the same.

I'm Sorry but I just couldn't handle City out doing our treble with a fecking quadruple. That would surely serve as a catalyst for them to really start a legacy and gain more fans worldwide, do we really want that? I think Pool winning just 1 PL is more acceptable. We just have to make sure pool NEVER EVER win a 2nd PL (and level us with 20 titles each).. EVER.

But can you imagine how smug City fans would be with a quadruple? they'd spend half their lives belittling our famous treble! and would never let us forget it, that just cannot happen, My hate is equal for Pool and City though.

That might well change if they do the quadruple though. Many fans are glory hunters and will be quick to catch the nearest bandwagon.

Rivalry is more fun for sure, but if City wins the quadruple, it outdoes our Treble and shows that they have (even if only once) become the best English team and achieved the impossible. This would prove their model works, and it would attract more players, more global fan base, more revenue and profits (as if they need it). Success breeds more success.

When we won the Treble in 99, what were the Liverpool fans saying? Flash in the pan? They will be back? Look where we are compared to them 20 years later. There also used to be rivalry within Manchester but now City has planted the seed to eclipse us. Winning a quadruple will only hand them a growth spurt.

There's no debate at all. If given a straight choice, it's a City Quadruple for me. (Which is tainted anyway by the lack of youth players & media-ignored financial cheating among other things). Pep can't do anything wrong, even when he does stuff wrong. Regardless of anything, if they win another of those trophies, the press already has the "Best manager ever in the Premier League" articles already written. That Fergie chap was alright, but it was a long time ago & he took 26 years to win his stuff. Plus he didn't look like he should be modelling jumpers for the Littlewoods catalogue.

I think we can say with some confidence that I doubt they'll win in Europe. Clearly it's not impossible. Would a good CL run affect them in the League? Probably, but then it would for Liverpool as well. Who's got the thinner squad? Liverpool, without a doubt.

Never Liverpool. Ever.

A Leicester title is far different from a City Quadruple, for one. And City certainly has the resources to build upon that success. The point is not instant elevation but lending strength to an already ongoing process. I am in Asia as well and you could say 10 years ago you'd be hard-pressed to find a fan wearing a City jersey but the situation's changing now. It may be "plastic" but still revenue is revenue and a wider base begets further strength.

And by your logic, one single title will not elevate Liverpool anywhere so what's the problem in them winning it?

How can City do a Quad if we're going to win the FA cup?
All in my personal opinion of course in case there're any Arsenal fans out there who don't know how time works!
That's the spirit. The way the draw has gone for us so far, it'll be a Manchester derby final!

City are not winning the Champions League. If they won the domestic treble, I would be fine with that as long as Liverpool don't get their hands on the Premier League title.

You don't get the rivalry. It's a shame, because it's one of the best parts of football in many ways.

City's success will always be hollow because everyone knows its simply because they won the lottery. It could be literally any team in the country in their position right now.

Pep leaves and all of a sudden City turnt to shite after just winning the quadruple? This must have been how the Liverpool fans were feeling in the 1990s to early 2000 when they thought Ferguson was going to retire.

Even then Football has evolved and the success of clubs doesn’t necessarily depend on the longevity of a great manager. Chelsea have been very successful with several managers. If guardiola was to leave at the end of this season he has already built a great core which could keep on dominating. They already have the money?

Can’t really understand how you guys have quickly dismissed a city quadruple knowing how winning for trophies for us elevated our club exponentially? I’m not saying City quadruple is the right option but it should be at least a tougher choice knowing we have never won the quadruple.

At the end of the day this thread will be pointless when we win the FA cup.

Pool winning 1 PL after 30 years is not as worse as a fecking City quadruple, do people really not see how catastrophic that would be? So many WUM's would talk nonsense for years saying City is the best team in English football (EVER). They'd be cemented in the history books forever, gaining more fans globally and revenues probably sky rocketing. Pool winning the CL is worse (would put them on 6 to our 3) than them winning PL. Saying that if City can win the PL and nothing else I'll take that; because I don't see Pool being good enough to win CL.

I'm sorry, you might disagree with them but it certainly wouldn't be WUMs to declare that if City do a double in 17/18 followed by a quadruple in 18/19, especially since it's looking likely they'll stay the strongest English side in 19/20.

Yes you're right, it wouldn't just be WUM's it would be fecking everyone. So yea Pool can have their first ever PL if it means no quadruple for City I can swallow my pride and accept that.

Ideal realistic scenario..

City PL winners
Pool 2nd place
UTD top 4 and FA cup!
