I hate how defenders are allowed to shield the ball excessively, basically pushing the chasing attacker away with their backs and arms, when it's on its way out to a goal kick.

Neymar and Suarez.
And in general every player that main style of play is to try to trick the referee (diving, flopping, rolling around when barely touched).
Even when our own players are doing it i get irritated. And we have some that are doing this to some degree.

When the other team scores more goals. It's like, come on guys, why don't you just score more goals than the other team?

I think they are more pathetic than annoying, though I have a grudging admiration for the lengths the Messi v Ronaldo warriors take their battles to.

The obsessive dislike of certain players that some obviously sincere United fans display on the Caf is weird as well. Smalling and Lingard seem to be particularly targeted by the irrational (not @Irrational. :D).

Defenders shielding the ball out of play for a goal kick/throw-in. Being in control of the ball and shielding it takes skill and strength, shielding the ball/stopping an opponent reaching the ball when you have no intention to play it yourself is obstruction.

When a ball obviously goes out of play off a certain player, then they appeal for the throw when the whole stadium knows he got the last touch.

It’s an obvious attempt to cheat, but no one seems to call people out on it.

It's not when the ball is moving, per the rules. They try not to touch it because they want the goal kick/throw in

City claiming they sell out the ground, when it’s clearly bollocks.

Is that right? I'd have to read the specific rule but as it is I don't see the difference between body-blocking a player to let the ball go out for a corner and body-blocking them off the ball for any other reason, which would be a foul. Surely you can only shield the ball if you have control of it, and you can only have control of the ball if you've either touched it or you're about to.

Pep Guardiola rotation policy fecking up my fantasy league team.

The losing team misplacing a pass and commentator saying "well that sums up their night".

Try hard foreign fans of clubs who always go on about how much they hate their chosen club’s local rivals. Why would you care?

Grown men who are massively emotionally invested in their teams to the extent that they actually get depressed when they’re not doing well. Pretty embarrassing really.

The idea that clubs who can’t fill their stadium have awful fans. They just don’t have many of them.

I hate it when an opposition player blatantly trips or pulls back a player to stop an attack that could change a game. Fair enough there may be a single defender covering but there could be three or four attackers ready to pounce.

In that situation, common sense should prevail the ref knowing there is only one man covering should consider the chance a goalscoring opportunity due to overwhelming numbers in attack and send off the player who blatantly stops an attack.

Pundits and co commentators who say they "don't like seeing that" when a player waves an imaginary card when he is fouled. Getting so boring now.

It's so bloody common nowadays it's part of the game.

Overly opinionated commentators who spend the whole match ranting about everything and just suck the fun out of the game. That miserable sod Gary Birtles ruins any game he commentates on.

And yes, I’m aware of the irony of posting that in this thread.

Do you go to many/any United games out of interest?

One of my pet hates is people who "support" a team who have never been anywhere near the place.
Why?

Many years ago I was Malaysia and got up in the middle of the night to watch United in the hotel bar. I met a lad who was about my age and shared so many of my United memories. He was from Singapore so was usually either staying up well past midnight or getting up at 4am to watch United, or very occasionally flying halfway across the world. Who am I to tell him he's not a real United supporter?

You spend money time and energy supporting both clubs though so can’t fault that.

And Wycombe and Utd isn’t like “I support Man City and Real Madrid”.

They are the fans I was talking about really.
Fair does. Yeah, you can't support two equal standing big teams, that doesn't work.

Wycombe have played Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham in cup games over the last decade, but luckily not United.
I guess I'd support Wycombe if it happened, but they'd be such a massive underdog, it wouldn't be as odd as going against United normally would!

People naming decent/good/v.good players 'useless' or even 'abomination of a footballer' because they're not top tier. The Caf is known for it, sadly. Total extremes.

Maybe I'm going off the matchday threads and most knee jerk irrational threads seem to be set up by these armchair, never been near the ground types.
Of course it's great we have huge interest around the world.

A pet peeve of mine too. How is actively preventing the ball from being played in the spirit of the game?

Also: Match threads on here in the hour leading up to the game being infested with people telling everyone how many points they got in the prediction league. Who gives a feck?

Fifty Shades of Grey is better than anything I or most of us could ever write. Much more fun to just call it a pile of flaming garbage though.

OK, if I ever meet him again I'll inform him that he's not a real supporter but you're grateful for his interest nonetheless.

Grown adults crying at football matches.

Get a grip.
I don't think I've ever cried out of sadness, but I shed a tear when Ole scored against Bayern, and I forget which game it was since Ole took over but there was a moment where it suddenly hit me that after 5 years of mostly horrible football this was the United I love again.

Totally agree with the original post, had debates with people who are adamant they support more than one club.

Always ask the same question who would you pick if those two meet in a match. Pick one, so how can you support a club you want to lose? Unlikely they would meet.

You can only support one club but like others

But that's just in your use of language, surely? I can't get my head around the idea of loving two clubs equally but it's totally possible to actively support more than one in 2019, in the right circumstances. If you're a season ticket holder at a big club, with matches being moved for TV, international breaks and if home and away weeks went your way, you could probably still get to almost every home game for your local lower league team too. And if you want them to win, are you not supporting them? Yeah, if you had to make your choice then you'd pick your main team, but if you're also watching a lower league team how often is that actually going to come up?

It's just semantics. If you were a Chelsea season ticket holder who spent £500 going to AFC Wimbledon home games, buying pies and coffees, but on the day Chelsea play AFC Wimbledon you support your main team of Chelsea, you might get a bit of piss taking but ultimately you'd still be giving your support to AFC Wimbledon as well.

You could even argue the lad is a even bigger fan. Getting up at 4am ish for every match? fecking hell. Good on them!

I'd also say that this was just as the Arsenal years were ending. He'd been watching United (and Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and Bellion) religiously throughout those, but he also had pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of everything from when I started watching United (my first game was in 1993). I don't know if Singapore TV even had United then. He might have gone back and researched. Anyway, he clearly loved United.

Nothing really annoys me. 90 mins of entertainment or boredom depending on the era in which im watching United in. After that nothing becomes material enough to boil my blood

Bugs me when people seem to think you can’t support a team if you're not from the city or can’t/don’t get to many games. “F*** off and a support your local team!”. I mean, it’s not as if your local team is full of local lads. Your likely supporting players from the countries the so called arm chair fans are from. Chances are if everyone supported their local teams, the team you support would be no where near as good.

Talking with a hand covering your mouth like you're some kind of secret agent. No one cares what you're saying. Just stick to kicking a ball around a pitch, glorified court jesters.

My local team is in the Noggie fourth division or something like that. People can actually get fecked if they think I can be arsed with that

Biased English/British commentators. It's unbearable to watch. Just do your job and remain neutral if only to make it interesting for the viewers.

It's doubly funny when it's people from huge Cities with giant clubs saying it.

Yes, please lecture me about not supporting my local semi professional pub team, random person from Madrid / Barcelona / Berlin / Manchester
