I don't fancy him but he's done nothing wrong in this case. They have frozen him out.

I'd take him. Looks like an Eric Cantona sort of personality. Maybe our club will suits him.

No thanks, rather not sign anyone than him. Thankfully, there does not seem to be any rumors that we are even interested in him.

If we can get him on a relatively reasonable wage and no extortion from his agent, he’s a very good option ima summer where we need a CB, RB and RM as well.

Don't want, fall out with PSG, fall out with the national team coach.

Talent alone is not enough,he will disrupt the dressing room, It's too early to sign such a player for Ole .

To be fair he never fell out with PSG or the dressing room, he fell out with Antero Henrique who is himself going to be sacked because he fell out with everyone. The France thing is on Rabiot though.

Henrique can feck off. He’s practically not even a PSG player anymore, he can party when he wants.

"I find his attitude and lack of professionalism towards the club, his teammates and supporters unacceptable," said Henrique. "I would like to point out that until June 30, he remains a member of our squad."

Henrique froze Rabiot out of the senior picture towards the end of 2018 and coach Thomas Tuchel has been unable to call upon the Frenchman since as his contract runs down towards its June end.

Whereas freezing the player out while he's not a disruptive influence in the dressing room, is professional from his side? Guy sounds like a right cnut.

Henrique did his team dirty with when he froze Rabiot. Tuchel could have used Rabiot against us.

Absolutely.

@JPRouve @kouroux don't know much about the situation, but is he purely frozen out purely because he did not want to renew at the wages PSG offered? Maybe the order to then freeze him out has come straight from the top and not from Henrique?

Seems the Qataris are a bit childish when they don't get their way re players signing new contracts.

In short yes but his issues run deeper than that, Rabiot has been a problem since 2014-2015, contract dealings with him have been annoying with his mother as an agent. He always feels entitled for many things and among them, playing time at a specific position. He loathes playing as a DM whereas it's his best position IMHO and according to many football experts.

I have no doubt that the order came indeed, from above to freeze him out of the club, the club is ready to let him on a free because they just don't wanna be bullied around by him (let's remember that Ben Arfa spent an entire season on the bench and with reserves because they didn't wanna him anymore and he left for free). Weird tactics from a club under scrutiny when it comes to their finances, they should have sold him last summer and just be done with him completely. Henrique is basically a puppet for the Qataris, a big decision like that, without a doubt he doesn't make it without their approval

Thanks kouroux. A wee bit of both then - Rabiot and the owners being a bit childish/entitled.

He has his issues but when it comes to this particular situation, PSG are acting like cnuts. He doesn't play for them and will leave for free, he can do whatever he wants.

I don't think it's particularly weird, just classic one-upmanship and from Al-Khelaifi. He wants to feel like the victor in this even if it costs him money. And to set example of sorts that he's unfeckwithable. Childish? Perhaps

It's weird in the sense that PSG are under scrutiny, their finances make them obligated to sell players before thinking of acquiring. When you bench some of them for entire seasons, it doesn't really help their cause. It's stupid. One-upmanship at this level is dumb.

I don't know about the owner part, the only thing that is reported is that Tuchel had no big issue with him and wanted to use him but Henrique was against it.

Yeah, their owner has a massive ego (like all billionaires I guess ).

Wasn't there a report that he refused to play for PSG unless on his preferred position?

His baggage far outweighs what he(will) brings to the table, his mother, his attitude, his anti-establishment personality, and lack of professionalism.

He wont also come cheap, him and his agent will want a bigger wage to compensate for getting him 'free' .

Please I don't want another circus,Mourinho's is enough.

No, he moans and pouts when asked to play as a DM but he never refused to play as far as I know. He doesn't lack professionalism, he is just a player that needs to be managed from a mental standpoint which is fine for certain managers and a big issue for others.
Personally, I find him irritating but I think that someone like Ole wouldn't have issues with him while someone like Mourinho would lose it before the season starts.

Well it's partly the below...

Yeah, their owner has a massive ego (like all billionaires I guess ).
And partly Arab monarchs/sheikhs/emirs who aren't used to being challenged or defied over anything. They're not dealing with it in the most mature of ways.

It is stupid, I agree. But it's almost to be expected.

100%. Hence why players like Mbappe/Verratti etc. would probably have to run their contracts down (or become dispensable) if they were to leave.

There'd always be an exception though. Maybe if Mbappe has a great relationship with them/wins them the UCL and spends a good few years there, they might "allow" him to be sold.

But yeah, you seemingly don't get out of there against the owners wishes.

He lacks professionalism. It was reported that he refused to pick the National team coach's call. One can have a professional disagreement with his boss, but it should be on the job never personal.Refusing to pick the man's call shows lack of professionalism and total disrespect to the man, not only as a manager but also as a man.

he is just a player that needs to be managed from a mental standpoint which is fine for certain managers.

The mental/emotional,time and financial cost of managing him is not commensurate with the reward. You can do that with a Cantona,Ronaldo,Rooney,Zlatan etc because they are/were special talents.

There is a reason special talents with 'difficult' personalities make to the pinnacle of football(or any other professions) than 'normal' talents with 'difficult' personalities.

That has nothing to do with professionalism, he has no contract with the national team, playing for France isn't his job. He is an employee of PSG. Also Deschamps didn't call him.

I'm still in the Rabiot to United camp. As said before, worst case scenario it doesn't work out then we'll make money on selling him.

Best case scenario he buckles down and reaches his potential in a red kit.

Me too.

I can see Daniel Levy frothing at the gash for a signing like this, then slapping a £200 million release clause on him after a couple of decent performances.

I’d rather he came to us, he’s a gamble worth taking IMO.

The greatest thing at United right now is the team spirit, players digging in for each other, some of them even playing outside of their natural positions. With Rabiot you have a problematic personality who thinks he knows better than his coaches where he should play, you don't invite that kind of problem into a camp with the spirit ours has.

The stuff from the PSG bigwig is ludicrous though, they froze him out and essentially made it so he wasn't part of the club, and now they are moaning about him doing his thing and not giving a shit about what is basically his former team? Just trying to distract from the fact they choked.

On a free transfer we should try and sign him. He's a very talented midfielder who would be a upgrade in the #6 and #8 roles. Eric Cantona was a far bigger problem potentially, but that turned out ok, apart from a Kung Fu kick. Signing him on a free is a risk worth taking and would free up funds for other players.

I don't really agree with anything here in truth mate, I mean Eric was special, a charismatic enigma, a leader. By contrast Rabiot is a petulant child, apples and oranges IMO, but I just wanted to focus on one thing, he's already thrown his toys out of the pram about not wanting to play as a #6, so why even consider him in that role when he doesn't want to play it and has an attitude about it? To me that will create the same issue we had when Mourinho tried to force Pogba into a 2 man midfield role that he didn't want to play, we didn't see the best of him with any consistency.

That part isn't correct because you are using hindsight of what happened at United, Cantona was petulant and a bit of cnut for the most part of his career which is why he was thrown out of so many clubs despite being the best player. SAF did wonder with him.

There are plenty of charismatic leaders who are cnuts, look at Roy Keane, some of them even run countries, the fact was there was something to tap into with Cantona, there isn't with Rabiot, he has none of those qualities, he's a good player but a spoilt brat.

If we get him for free, maybe we can spend money on Sancho & De Ligt and still get a decent player for our midfield.
On the other hand we could hope McTominay or Pereira takes another step in development or Fred comes good and not waste wages or effort into him.

Not sure what I would do.

But why do we have to sign him for the #6 (DM, Matic's) role? I don't undesrtand that. I mean he is a very capable box-to-box CM, even if his best position is DM. We do have Matic and Herrera that can play in DM** and also McTominay seems to be getting groomed for that role too. It should be a position of least concern for now.

I know Fred has had a good game against PSG and everyone says he "arrived", but let's be honest, unless he does it consistently there will be doubts. And if these doubts persist till summer, the temptation to pick up Rabiot for free and set up a midfield of Herrera/Matic, Rabiot/Fred, Pogba/Lingard is quite big. That's a lot of strength in depth.

** Herrera got voted POTY by us, when playing in the deeper role before Matic was bought.

Eric ended up at Sheffield Wednesday after causing problems at most of the clubs he played at in France. Rabiot is still very young, and in comparison is a angel compared to what I've read about Eric.

He may not want to play as the #6 but he will play the position if required. And if we can get him to play to his potential, then we've got a brilliant young player on a free, which will free up funds for other positions.

From my understanding, Rabiot has always been professional when it comes to what is required from him on the pitch. And the rapport with his team mates has never been called into question.

Would like to see him at United. He is better then Herrera on the ball so he can easily play RCM, thats the position he wants to play anyway, he is more of a positional player and that is exactly what we need. He is also at the right age. Matic as a DM needs cover, it is starting to look like McTominay is being moulded to take over. If that is the case then McTominay doesnt need a workhouse CM next to him, he has the energy to play DM. A trio of Pogba-Matic(McTominay)-Rabiot is one of the better midfields in Europe. Citys midfield wouldnt work in any other style of play, liverpools is pure workhorse, Madrids is too positional. Barcelona have a better midfield. Rabiot makes sense especially if we want to improve depth and quality in other positions.

That's a slightly different point, when it comes to attitude Cantona was far worse than Rabiot. The issue with Rabiot is that he moans all the time and his mom is a nuisance but on the field he is pretty good and does what he is asked to do. The only relevant red flag is the letter that he sent concerning France national team but even then it was totally different to Cantona insulting the national manager on TV.

Now, if you don't rate him then it makes sense to not sign him.

Didn't realise he was at City previously.

Not sure what to make of him, attitude of a pig by all accounts and not sure where he fits in best for us. Herrera's position most likely as I've read he doesn't enjoy playing DM.
