Exactly the type of performance you'd expect from Darren Fletcher in a game of that magnitude.
Couldn’t have said it any better.

Also I’ve never seen anyone harass Verratti in possession as well as McTominay did without fouling him.

Upsets me that players like Scott and Lukaku showed their worth last season, yet people spent the first half of this season calling them shit donkeys. Now they are praising them again. I wonder how long before the cycle starts again.

Sorry, but one is a academy player in their 3rd season in the PL, the other is in his 10th season and a 90m player. If you think Lukaku showed his "worth" you have very low expectations of future big money signings

Just so you know. Lukaku was excellent in the second half of last season, that's not up for debate. Scoring against top teams, working hard and leading the line well. That's why I was so disappointed that he'd lost his touch in the first half of this season.

Back to the matter at hand, I don't think I'm going overboard in saying that McTominay could replace Matic in our starting XI. I'd be happy with it because Matic is always looking to slow our play down and is incredibly slow, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel Scott would suit our play better.

The next step of his development will likely be scoring goals. He doesn't strike me as a natural defensive minded player and I feel he will do well when allowed to get into the box. I can see him becoming an efficient goal scoring midfielder.

Verratti is arguably one of the best midfielders out there currently, so what Scott did on Wednesday was absolutely brilliant. I am sure he will get better.

Not going to turn this into a Lukaku thread, but no he wasn't, that's a completely false statement. The only top team he scored against in the entire season was Chelsea

Literally a month ago I was arguing why McTomminay should not be flogged, and he should be a United squad player for the next 5-10 years.

What goes through some posters heads baffles me. Flog McTomminay for next to nothing or keep him and try develop him into a solid PL midfielder.

Whatever, he was contributing against top teams, whether it was goals assists or just overall good play. The reason I have jumped on this, is because I wanted to point out just how short people's memories are. Either way, I'll leave it at that.

he's proven himself to be very worthy of a squad place these last weeks. We suffered from lack of mobility in midfield with Matic and Fellaini but not anymore.

So basically makeup facts, and backtrack when called out on them. Yes let's leave it there and leave this link for others to check for themselves...

I'm won over. I've been a critic but I think it was more down to Jose suppressing him. He doesn't need to be flash. That's not his role. He can do the dirty work, has stamina, calmness, and has begun adding those raking forward balls we loved Carrick for so much.

Love the pictures at full time of him. Channel that passion every day and that’s 90% of what you need.

He's very calm on the ball and has the strength to hold onto it, with both his physicality and mental courage. I am getting frustrated that Pereira loses the ball so often, but McTominay just doesn't do it, and even when he does he is so good at pressing and correcting his mistakes. He could evolve to become a very good player for us.

Loved it in the dying minutes where instead of just hoofing it up the pitch and buying a few seconds he kept hold of the ball and played a pass.

McTominay did absolutely great and is growing as a player. Still, we need him (and not just him actually) to also improve his attacking output in the future, as now he is a defensive-minded player. Against this PSG away it was what we needed, surely, but at Man Utd there are many games where we actually attack more than defend.

It's not in the slightest a critique, he deputised for Matic well beyond expectations

Guessing he was completely knackered for us to throw Matic in a big away game like that against a team who was going to overload? A lot is made about Scott making simple passes, but we really missed that in the first 30 minutes when we couldnt hold the ball. And I reckon Scott at least gets around or does better in terms of closing down Ozil as well as Xhaka for the first goal.

Had the game of his life vs PSG yet Ole couldn't wait to rush back Matic and Herrera for Arsenal and Wolves away. I'd be sitting there wondering why I'm not playing if I was him.

Definitely prefer him to Matic. Should be starting all our games for the remainder of the season. Credit to the lad.

feel he's a better option to Matic who doesn't seem to have the same mobility or spark Scott has

Unlike Matic he knows his limitations and sticks to the basics, he'll not get back in but he should start vs Watford instead of Matic.

Not too sure why he's been dropped. Yes, Matic has been fantastic under Ole, but since McTominay came in for him he hasn't put a foot wrong and should not have been dropped, in my opinion.
Yes, made no sense to drop him. I feel more confident with him than matic.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Ole used him in the Fellaini role.

Target man/post play role at the hole/#10 area, to receive long ball passes, then to hold it and distribute it well.
Plus, to have physical presence in the box.

Not enough time, but he did well.

So this kid played a wordie against Veratti only for Matic to slot back in the starting line-up and we have lost two consecutive matches. Does this count as Ole having his "favorites" and not play players based on true merit?
What happened to Manchester United giving youth proper chances?

He came off the bench (he should of started) and by that point the game was over.

Got just over half an hour today against eh San Marino. Still though, anyone know how he done?
Pretty much the same as the rest of them, meh at best
Not sure if he is still ill though, that's why he didn't start in Astana.

Some nice passes between the lines, good defensive moments and a tidy shot with his left that went over. Crossing into the box left a bit to be desired. Scotland are bloody shocking though.

Dont see it happening, but he should start ahead of Matic vs Barca. Reckon it gives us a better chance in tracking and keeping the ball.
