Obertans #1 fan.
Why are we (England) so obsessed with ripping our own national team players instead of supporting them? We always need to have a villain or someone to take the piss out of, but do we have a better GK than Pickford atm? I can’t think of any that stand out
It happens like this.

Football fans like to appear smart. People on forums like to think they’re above pundits and the lads down the pub. (Which they probably are, people in pubs always know nothing about football)

Which then leads to people trying to look above the average bloke who watches footy. So in the summer when everyone and their dog watches the World Cup and Pickford does well and people like him... suddenly footy fans smell a chance to make themselves look better than Jim in accounts who claims Harry Maguire is England’s greatest ever centre half.

This leads to all kinds of comedy. Like when Jack Wilshere came through and played in a more “European” style everyone lauded him. No more of the classic English idiot like Frank Lampard, but a player who can control a game. Of course no one on the internet noticed that he was actually pretty wank.

Silva who went to Everton was another one. Sure he got tanked by David Moyes and was relegated BUT he was foreign and cultured so he was going to teach the prem a thing or two. Of course actually he couldn’t organise a defence to save his life and will soon be forgotten.

Anyone who has a bit of hype around them in the press has to prove themselves ten times over to the footy lads on twitter. Look at how Mane was treated when he was linked to us. Look at how Kagawa and Mikhytarian were treated. If they’ve been mentioned by Shearer - overrated. If Merson struggles to say their name - class.

Football fans now have this bizarre rating system where they have opinions about people they’ve literally never seen play. Hence you’ve got people here claiming Butland is the best keeper England have as he is in the middle of a poor season for Stoke with distribution of a donkey. How do I know this, well I’ve been to three Stoke home fixtures this year as one of my mates with a season ticket fecked off to America and left it for me and a few others to share and I regularly end up watching shitty streams on a second stream if my mate Rob comes around.

Ask me how good that Pulisic Chelsea have signed is and I have absolutely no idea because I certainly don’t have time to watch him.

Jack Butland would be my pick (and possibly the guy to take over if DDG decided to leave next year. Need someone who knows the PL so Pete's lad Kasper is another "maybe")
Would rather just try out Dean Henderson if de Gea left us.

Did you type this on your phone whilst in the pub?

Agreed, he's having a great season at Sheffield United from what everyone's been saying. I wonder if we'll leave him there on loan if they end up getting promoted?

I'm not sure what England coaches see in Pickford. He's been mostly average when I've seen him play for Everton..

All show and no Go. Reminds me of Joe Hart. The shite he does in the trunnel pre-match. What a wanker.

He's shocking. Any comparison with Hart is massively unfair on Hart, this guy is lucky to be in the league.

One of the worst first choice keepers I've ever seen. I mean every word. He's not fit to lace Romero's boots.

You mean to tell me he's still shite?

Thought we were just being harsh on him before?

This is after Pickford nearly caught out and lobbed by Rondon.

Plus at the time they were winning 2-0

To make it worse, he's a prick. He's obviously from that school of thought that GKs need to be cocky.

Midget, overconfident, looks like a twat. Not much to like about him.

One of the worst keepers in the league. Has the handling of a 10 year old schoolboy.

I'd be surprised if he's Englands no 1 going into the Euros.

Never seen a goalkeeper that's constantly jumping up and down like he does, weird as feck, no idea why they haven't sorted it out in training over the years. Just means that if the shot comes when he's making that little jump, he'll always struggle to make the save. Not to mention that far too often he throws himself to a side before he knows where the shot is coming, gambles where the player is going to put it, every once in a while he'll make a save that's supposed to be "impossible", but in the long run he'll be better of waiting

Why the hell can't England produce good goalkeepers ? It's been close to 30 years since England last produced a really good, dependable goalkeeper in David Seaman.

After that :
Dave Beasant 2 matches
Nigel Martyn 23 matches
Tim Flowers 11 matches
Ian Walker 4 matches
David James 53 matches
Richard Wright 2 matches
Paul Robinson 41 matches
Rob Green 12 matches
Chris Kirkland 1 match
Ben Foster 8 matches
Scott Carson 4 matches
Joe Hart 74 matches
Jack Butland 9 matches
John Ruddy 1 match
Fraser Forster 6 matches
Tom Heaton 3 matches
Jordan Pickford 15 matches
Nick Pope 1 match
Alex McCarthy 1 match

That is a lot of really average goalkeepers!

Oh I forgot - compare that to Jimmy Rimmer, Phil Parkes, Alex Stepney, Peter Bonetti, Gary Bailey, Nigel Spink, Jim Corrigan - a bunch of really talented goalkeepers who in 20 years before them - in total managed just 24 caps.

He’s only in the England team because his distribution is superior to Heaton’s.

Lad’s a liability.

Heaton was clearly England's best keeper before he got injured. All he's done is pick up where he left off. If he'd been at a traditionally bigger club, Pickford would never have got a sniff.

His eccentricity is just over the top. A keeper in Barthez mold.

Sometimes brilliant but most of the times brain farts.

Was Seaman really dependable though?

I still don’t get how this guy is no.1 for England. I’ve never seen a supposed top keeper palm so many shots straight back into the middle of the six yard box.

Heaton will get his place back.
