Front 3 pretty much picks itself with Sterling, Rashford and Kane. Delph looked really good in the DM position in the last England game (never thought I would ever compliment Delph) so I'm not sure why he can't get a game at City other than cover at LB. Mind you, the England midfield is the spot where I have no clue. There are no real stand outs. Shaw should be back in the fold as Englands LB and Smalling is making a good argument for himself getting back in, but with his injury record, I would rather he didn't...

----------------------------Pickford------------------------------
TAA-----------Stones-----------------Maguire-------------Shaw
-----------?-------------------?------------------?----------------
Sterling---------------------Kane-----------------------Rashford

Goalkeepers
Pickford or Heaton as No.1 will be interesting.

Full-backs
Walker or TAA and Shaw or Chilwell are close calls.

Center-backs
If both are fit then 100% yes.....the other options Tarkowski, Keane and Dunk :nervous:......hopefully that was Gomez' last injury.

Midfield
One of Henderson, Dier or Rice will play in defensive midfield.

He will probably call-up Alli, Barkley, Maddison, Winks and Ward-Prowse for the two attacking midfield positions.

Forwards
Kane is just back from injury and Rashford is surely not 100% fit so hopefully both will start just in one game.......and Sterling + Sancho on the wings.

Guessing it'll be pretty much like this -

Goalkeepers - Heaton, Pickford, Gunn, Butland
Defenders - Alexander-Arnold, Wan-Bissaka, Walker, Chilwell, Shaw, Stones, Maguire, Dunk
Midfielders - Rice, Dier, Henderson, Alli, Delph, Winks, Barkley
Forwards - Sterling, Sancho, Rashford, Kane, Wilson

Oh such fun, it's the March international break. It's like going for a p*ss while in the middle of sex.

Give Rashford a break, nobody cares about this match. I'll be pissed if He comes back injured.

I think Dean Henderson deserves a call up! Much better than Pickford imo

Is Luke Shaw going to be the permanent left back for England in the future?

I hope so, he deserves it.

He should stay in the U21 squad....he will have there a tough fight with Gunn anyway.

Henderson must play top-flight next season....he is too good for the Championship.

Chilwell plays a fantastic season too and should he move to Manchester City in the summer then it will be a great fight between both till Saka arrives in the senior squad.

Southgate will name his next squad tomorrow.

One new face will be surely Rice.....a re-call for Heaton surely too......and maybe Wan-Bissaka (@Classical Mechanic ;))

Trippier, Gomez, Lingard and Welbeck are injured.

Alli, Stones and Winks aren't 100% fit.
Personally I don't see the sense in having both TAA and Trippier in the squad as they both offer pretty much the same thing, not to mention that Trippier isn't having a great season. AWB is already one of the best defensive right backs about and if you need someone to shut down a dangerous winger or sit in and defend a lead, he's perfect for it.

True

But it's really amazing to have currently Walker, Trippier, TAA & Wan-Bissaka as options and then 3-4 other fantastic prospects in the future too

Just a shame we can't say the name about the CB position :nervous:

Time for Rashford and Shaw to pick up a knock in the last 10 minutes of the Wolves game I think.

Needs to start Sancho and get him accustomed to playing with Kane and Sterling.

I’d recall Smalling too.

I’d like to see Grealish get into the squad as well.

Pickford
TAA Stones Maguire Chilwell
Rice Winks
Grealish
Sancho Kane Sterling

Would like to see something like this soon with Greenwood breaking into the squad too.

Most of the CBs in the squad won't be fit to lace Smalling's boots.

I think you meant 'Rashford and Shaw'.

Baffling that Smalling isn't picked over the dross. Especially after his recent performances.

3 Right backs and 3 left backs?

His resistance to select Smalling seems very personal. I think he doesn’t want to be proven wrong so is sticking to guns regardless of his performances.

Meh - Southgate won't back down on Smalling after the attention it got last season. Not a bad thing for us, especially given his injury record. Happy for him to leave out as many United players.

I like Southgate but his refusal to pick Smalling for the squad is bizarre.

I understand Smalling can be clumsy on the ball, but so for example can Keane and Tarkowski and when it comes to actual defending he's miles better than those two.

We could really do with Rice going on to be a top player, we're very weak in central midfield so he could be just the player we need.

Keane and Tarkowski over Smalling
Keane has picked up a bit of form, in the Liverpool game he was very good, but yeah. It's ridiculous how stubborn Southgate is over his 'philosophy'.

Not picking on you here but when people say Smalling is clumsy on the ball what do they actually mean? Is it more so how he turns his body before playing a pass? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him struggle to control a ball or misplace passes often. I’d probably go as far to say his passing is fairly accurate. It’s just that 1/2 second delay he has before making the pass. I don’t see any of these England defenders playing defence splitting passes on a regular basis. So I’m not really sure what it is Southgate is expecting. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong though.

I rate Maguire and Stones. Around the same level as Smalling in my opinion. I think they’re both similar though. I ain’t having Keane and Tarkowski as better options though.

It's not surprising Smalling isn't picked. Southgate would pick non league defender who can pass the ball than Smalling, considering how highly Southgate is rated, Smalling's international career is more or less over.

I’m delighted smalling isn’t called up the more they aren’t called up the better for utd. I feel lately rashford isn’t quiet 100% since Liverpoo game ,ole should be pulling him out after wolves game he could do with a break.
