Linked with us again in the press this morning, I'll put it out there for just 25m he'd undoubtedly be my first choice CB to go for in the summer.

If it's 25m then it's a no brainer.

Can go large on CM and RW then

Assuming this is in order to free up funds for other positions then yeah thats fine. Its short term but he's more than capable so would be a good shout.

He's looking more and more heavy legged as this season draws on.
For the way LVG or Jose would've set-up Alderweireld would be fine but if we're going to play a more open offensive game under Ole then I would prefer someone more agile.

The article painted it as a Bailly replacement. I have no complaints.

De Ligt and Toby

I actually haven't watched much of Spurs this season, how has he been? I see Vertonghen looks to have gotten worse this season.

He's 30 and already looks a worse player than he did a season or two ago. Feels like it would be yet another case where a player gives his prime years to other teams and we swoop in to pay for his decline with a large pension boosting salary.

Also it's a left sided CB we need. If Rojo leaves in the summer as expected then every centre back on our books is more comfortable on the right.

I was game for this a year or two ago, and he'd still be a good signing at £25 million, but it doesn't really inspire me if he'll be the only CB signing.

Saying that, unless we ship at least 2 CB's, surely there is no room to sign 2 new CB's, especially with Tuanzebe knocking on the door.

As I write this, I feel that we should probably just prioritise one top notch, world class (or potentially world class) CB instead, and I don't think Toby is that anymore.

Toby isn't the answer - I thought we learnt our lesson signing ageing players i.e Matic and Sanchez

Looking purely at stats, he's not much of an improvement on Lindelof or Smalling based on this seasons performances. Of course Football is not about stats. He'd certainly be an improvement on Rojo, Jones and Bailly. Honestly, I think we should go big and get Koulibaly - look at the difference VVD made at Liverpool. Koulibaly has had those similar kind of stats for Napoli this season. He'd be a clear upgrade and I think we can all agree, we need to improve at all levels ato be amongst the best. He'd be our defensive version of Pogba.

Caf's phobia of 30 year olds is weird. Worth reminding you lot that he's a CB not a speedy winger.

Haven't been very impressed with him this season, seems to be on the decline. While the fee might be low, the wages he would demand won't be, so I would rather we invest in a younger CB, we need a world class CB, no more stopgaps.

Agree with this. Put the 26m towards a player matching that criteria.

Last summer Toby was flaunted as the main reason why Mou won't be able to win anything this season. Fans used to chant mou is right Woodward is shite because the latter refused to spend 70m on him. Now some of the fans don't want him for 25m as they moved on to koulibaly ie a Cb whose just 2-3 years younger to Toby, whose got no EPL experience and who would cost us a bomb

I do not mind us signing him. He's a decent Cb, he's got EPL experience and on top of that he's cheap. Id rather see us sign de ligt though but we all know he will move to Barca. Thus Toby would be the wisest option If we use him correctly. That would entail selling Rojo and Jones & bring Tuanzebe back.

I agree to a certain extent, but he's a player who likes an injury or two and is already showing signs of decline. We've got to start taking note of these type of warning signs instead of ignoring them.

The main problem isn't his age imo. He wasn't good this season, is slow, not imposing in the air but good on the ball and a intelligent CB. We don't play "park the bus" anymore. So a no good in the air and slow CB (Toby) to partner Lindelof with DDG liability in the air (barely leaves the line), playing an attacking football with OGS...I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Its more the case that he is not the flavour of the season. Toby is soooo 2018

Hopefully Ole is smarter than this and looks down a younger path for a new centreback.
We have 3 ie Bailly, lindelof & tuanzebe. The only clear upgrade of those is De light who seem Barcelona bound. Thus brining in an experience yet cheap cb to help develop those 3 would be great especially since it means we can sell Rojo and Jones off

It's no more believable than the stories linking us with him last summer which also turned out to be nonsense. Him being 'cheap' at £25m isn't really true as he'll come with a big signing on fee and massive wages, like a centre back version of Sanchez.

My understanding is Vertonghen has been the far better player this season but the games I’ve seen Alderweireld hasn’t looked at his usual standard.

I’d rather push for DeLigt or Militao but hopefully this season is just a blip for him because 25 mil if he is replacing Jones, Bailly or Rojo is probably worth it. Don’t see how currently he gets in ahead of Smalling or Lindelof mind but experienced cover whilst leaving funds to enforce other positions. Mirror claiming Solskjaer wants RB, LB, CAM and a RW.

Edit: just seen a Tweet saying Real have signed Militao so ummm rules him out...

Would take him for anything less than £30m, he would improve us and leave money for buying elsewhere. Can pass better than any of our current lot too.

I think most Spurs fans seems to agree that Toby has been among their best and most consistent performers this season. But is he what we need? Probably not.

Maybe if we buy two centrebacks.

I mean that’s not what I’ve been hearing, especially not about the consistency, but is he better than Bailly, Rojo and Jones. Probably. Would he fit in to the sort of style Ole seems to be playing or is going I’m not convinced off of what I’ve seen this season so if we did or didn’t sign him I wouldn’t be that bothered.

At £25 million, you could buy Toby and also buy another centre half. He's such a bargain at that price.

For 25m, get him. Get rid of Rojo. He'd be a big upgrade. Spend big money on a RW and CM, buy a young CB next year. People dreaming of de Ligt, I'd say there is absolutely no chance of getting him, he's Barca bound.

We will probably need to prioritize positions as we're not signing 4 "expensive" players (RB, CB, DM, RW) and also, it should depend on which other players are available at the moment. (say De Ligt as an example - if we don't try and get him now and he moves, chances are we won't be able to get him anywhere in the near future).

So at 25m, Alderweireld would be a good piece of business.

I think he's been really good this season, recovered well from the injury we thought might impact him.

For that price, and his experience, it would make no sense not to go for him. He'd be great for Lindelof and Bailly.

Past his best, this would be another Schweinsteiger deal, hasn't got the pace or aerial ability to compliment Lindelof so all he'd be is either Victor's replacement or Bailly's on the bench.

Get him, does us for a season or two so we can focus on midfield and right wing then we can go for another centre half.

Too old, don't want him.
We already have Sanchez and Matic as toxic contract.
