Joe Willock with a great game again for Arsenal again. 2 goals, had an offside goal disallowed for the hat trick. Chris always seemed the best of the 3 brothers but Joe is overtaking him and could be the one to kick on.

Some outstanding kids England have coming through.

After Germany knocked us out in 2010, the FA did a big autopsy and reveolutionized our entire youth setup. Most people in the know, acknowledge it is the best in the world now. Money helps.

The improvement in the last years is fantastic to see :)

But the FA and the clubs still must change something very soon because players like Nketiah, Hudson-Odoi and Chong must play more senior football.

He has only played competitive games for England for over a year now, the feeling is that he's with England for the foreseeable.

Should we be worried that as a club we haven't got a single one of the players in those u16 and u17 squads?
Mengi has quite a lot of caps. Shoretire, Mather and Forsen are involved with the u15s, although they didn't have the best result recently losing 3-1 to Belgium.

Looks like that France game for the u16s was very impressive. Highly rated English/Irish dual national Louie Barry is there too, next up Brazil tomorrow.

Players 21 or under who are already getting minutes and impressing at a reasonably high level:

-------Hudson-Odoi-------Rashford-----------Sancho

------------------Foden-----------Rice-----Gibbs-White

Sessegnon--------Tuanzebe------Gomez-----------------TAA

---------------------------------Henderson

Obviously, Tuanzebe and Henderson are playing on the Championship, but they'll get game time in the PL before long.

Even at their current level of experience, that's a side that could cause a lot of top teams some problems.

Hudson Odoi isn't getting minutes though is he, that's the problem.

He has played for Scotland's U17 in August.....since then he only has played for England.

He will surely play for Celtic's first team this season.

Armstrong Oko-Flex was already on the Celtic bench on the weekend.

What’s his story in terms of Internaltion representation do you know? He was born in Dublin and only moved over to London at 11 when he joined Arsenal. Then left Arsenal for Celtic at 16 so he has only spent 5 years of his life in England.

I had no qualms to be honest with Rice selecting England (although think rule allowing players to switch once they have played senior is daft) given his only connection was through his grandparents but I would be pretty pissed off if Oxo-Flex went as he has very little connection England and was born and bred in Ireland.

He is getting minutes. The problem is that he's not getting as many as he'd like. He's been involved in 6 senior games since the start of the year.

If you want to replace him, put in Nelson or something. Or maybe Brooks. Or push up Foden and play Harvey Barnes in midfield.

Incidentally, I only picked 21 as the age cut-off arbitrarily. The likes of Delli Alli, RLC and Lewis Cook barely missed out.

It's the most talented generation I've ever seen from England. We just need to wait and see which ones can fulfill their potential to elevate the senior side up a level. To be truly competitive, there need to be at least 4 World Class players in the side I reckon. There are several individuals with that ceiling.

Oh yeah I fully agree just Hudson Odoi stood out as one on the move due to lack of minutes

Sadly Brooks chose to represent Wales so is out of the picture now. This is after being England U20s best player in the World Cup win a couple of years ago.

He has played for Ireland and England but England most recently. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went back to playing for Ireland again. There was some Irish youth football watcher claiming he doesn’t even qualify for England by the rules.

He was PoTT at the Toulon Tournament in a shadow u21 squad with the u21 Euros on that the same time.

Last August he has said "Ireland is where I’m from but England is financially much better. I enjoy playing with both but obviously I’m Irish so I feel the connection with them".
But since August he only was in England squads and he would have been in the England U17 squad two weeks ago too but Celtic have said "No" (Because he was in their first-team squad).
I don't know how important Nigeria is for him.

The U19's, U18's, U17's, U16's and U15's are much better ;)

You can never have enough talent but probably the best decision for him.......we still have Sterling, Sancho, Gray, Hudson-Odoi, Smith-Rowe or Nelson :)
u16s drew 2-2 with Brazil after coming back from 2-0 down. Louie Barry scored both goals.
Another tournament win :D

Marcus Edwards has picked up some form in Holland recently, this article from a Dutch newspaper has some very high praise from his teammate but also hinted at the emotional issues that seem to hold him back. His dad has now gone over to live with after he struggled to adjust.

Feasting at Excelsior: 'He is of a bizarre level. What he can do is not normal '

Published: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 9:28 AM

It is 'incredible' that Excelsior has Marcus Edwards this season. That says teammate Jeffrey Fortes in conversation with Voetbal International. Fortes finds Edwards (20) 'of bizarre level'.

Wing attacker Edwards was parked in Tottenham Hotspur in Kralingen in August. Fortes looks his eyes out. "He is of a bizarre level, what he can do is really not normal, I have not experienced a better player in my career, and Mauricio Pochettino did not make that comparison with Messi for nothing," he told VI. "He was referring to his way of moving and there is really something in. You will not get rid of him on a sidewalk tile."
(fsf: better translation: You can't get him off the ball even on a sidewalk tile space)

Fortes understands that there is pressure on Edwards' shoulders. "He is for many the hired player of Tottenham Hotspur, not Marcus Edwards, and of course
it is also incredible that he is walking around here, let's face it

Some highlights from this season, he starting to get some end product now too.

Ya is the rule you have to be resident for three years from the age of 16 or something? Surely this day and age you couldn’t have a scenario where a player plays with a country he isn’t actually eligible for though.

Last August he has said "Ireland is where I’m from but England is financially much better. I enjoy playing with both but obviously I’m Irish so I feel the connection with them".

Jesus it’s a sad state of affairs if players are basing their national team around financial considerations. Surely they earn enough playing for their club. I don’t think the likes of Roy Keane, Robbie Keane or Duff were paid any less than their English counterparts. From an Irish point of view I guess it’s good that he identifies as Irish at least.

Not sure exactly but I think if you live in a country for 5 plus years before a certain age then you qualify but the debated point was how long he’d been in England

I think by earning more money he means through sponsorship and contracts, given the extra value English players have to English clubs with the scarcity of players and the home grown rules.

I expect him to play for Ireland in the end personally.

Think Man. United will actually sign Wan-Bissaka....unless Zaha tries to put him off the move.

It actually makes sense, he seems like a very good young player and Man. United are letting Valencia go and have Young as a regular and he's 34 so certainly a position where a young player is required.

I like Wan-Bissaka a lot. However, we already have a young right back in Dalot and a terrific young talent in Ethan Laird.

Depends if Dalot is actually going to be RB....few times I've seen him he's played anywhere but that position!

Never heard of Ethan Laird but if his potential is as good as you two say I'd imagine a loan spell somewhere next season would make sense.

Squad nominations are on Wednesday.....will be interesting to see which new faces are in every squad.

Rice will be surely in the senior squad but i would like to see him at the U21 Euros with no Cook.......Dier and Henderson are good enough to the win the Nations League :)

U21: Bowen (Hull), Godfrey (Norwich), Oxford (Augsburg, on loan from West Ham)

U20: McGuane (Barca)

U19: Griffiths (Lyon), Skipp (Tottenham), O'Riley (Fulham), Bogle (Derby), Johnson (West Ham), Ennis (Wolverhampton), Brown (Chelsea), Simms (Everton)

U18: Duncan (Liverpool)

What do you think @Classical Mechanic?

As far as I'm aware, Rice can't play for the u21s this cycle because he appeared for Ireland in it. He'll be in the senior squad I'm sure. The big question in the senior squad for me is if Wan Bissaka gets in. Its certainly arguable that he's been the best performing English right back this season.

Regarding the u21 squad, I think the possible inclusions of Hudson Odoi, McNeil and Bowen are the interesting points. All three are doing more at the moment than ever presents like Lookman

Thanks for the information about Rice.

Wan-Bissaka is surely the best RB in the Premier League this season but do we need three RB's for two easy qualifcation games??
Trippier is injured and Walker will be surely in the squad therefore only one of Alexander-Arnold or Wan-Bissaka should be in the senior squad and the other in the U21 squad.
Maybe you are right that Wan-Bissaka will be in the senior squad (with Walker and Alexander-Arnold) but then i hope Aarons or James will be in the U21 squad.....Kenny, Walker-Peters or Holgate aren't great options there.

Lookman is a idiot....he should have left Everton in the summer or in January.
Nations League is in June, we're playing Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro during the international break.
The U21 Euros will be in June too ;)

A strong and young u21 squad for Poland and Germany - Hudson Odoi in.

Goalkeepers: Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United), Angus Gunn (Southampton), Dean Henderson (Sheffield United, loan from Manchester United)

Defenders: Jake Clarke-Salter (Vitesse, loan from Chelsea), Jay Dasilva (Bristol City, loan from Chelsea), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Lloyd Kelly (Bristol City), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Ezri Konsa (Brentford), Fikayo Tomori (Derby County, loan from Chelsea), Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace)

Midfielders: Harvey Barnes (Leicester City), Hamza Choudhury (Leicester City), Tom Davies (Everton), Kieran Dowell (Sheffield United, loan from Everton), Phil Foden (Manchester City), James Maddison (Leicester City), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

Forwards: Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa, loan from Chelsea), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Demarai Gray (Leicester City), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Ademola Lookman (Everton), Reiss Nelson (Hoffenheim, loan from Arsenal), Dominic Solanke (AFC Bournemouth)

The goalkeeper position is strong, as is the defence. Centre midfield is weakish but a three of Choudhury, Davies and Foden/Maddison is good enough at this level.

The wide forward positions are pretty stacked to say the least: Gray, Hudson Odoi, Lookman, Nelson, Sessegnon and Barnes!

Striker positions are decent enough.

One United player in that u21 squad. Not enough.
Gomes has fallen behind his peers because he doesn't get first team playing time like they do. Can't do anything about it. I think Tuanzebe would have made it if not for injury.
