So when did this become a thing and why are so many United fans doing this? Neville really does annoy me, especially with how he has defended every manager but I would never disrespect him or celebrate his failure at Valencia.

Similarly, Scholes' sin here is that he criticized Mourinho and LVG as a pundit. I'm reading some comments on the Scholes' resignation thread and am quite shocked at how far this has gone.

There is this complete absurd amount of disrespected the class of 92 gets on here. If I go by some posts, replacing Scholes with Gerrard wouldn't change much with the theme of mocking and ridiculing our legends.

It's a real shame a backbone of what makes United the club it is today gets treated like this.

P.S: I think with Giggs it's a different issue so I understand that although I chose to remember the player not the man.

The brand didn't help.

But the cuntishness in the Scholes manager thread is beyond belief.

Not United fans in my opinion

It's incredible really. Some people were happy he failed.

It's fine to disagree with what he says, but he's a United legend and I hope the best for him. Saying he deserves it because he badmouthed some managers/players is ridiculous. Giggs like you said is a special case though, lost a lot of respect for him.

Scholes is my favourite ever player. He probably always will be. But there is a distinction to be made between the admiration we have for him (and that ‘group’ as a whole) and the level of warmth felt towards them as individuals.

As vocal members of the football community they are therefore fair game for reasonable criticism and, let’s be brutally honest, some of them are fairly bloody irritating and miserable. As are we all, in fairness. I mean, Phil Neville. He’s a tit.

They’re all clearly decent guys, Giggs aside, but in purely football terms they’re bound to get a bit of stick. Especially when they - quite rightly, in my opinion - go out of their way to be controversial on live television. It gets them the gig, and the stick that follows. This is football, isn’t it?

There is also something quite smarmy about the whole ‘Class of ‘92’ brand as well, isn’t there? If it was another group of footballers from Liverpool we’d be taking the piss out of the blatant - and clever - marketing they do.

That's because Liverpool have won feck all and are try hards with a lot of talk but no material. This lot have won everything again and again in English football. They have the right to do any sort of marketing. I really don't think if a similar group from Liverpool won so many trophies to have knocked us off our perch we'd be mocking them.

Also, there's being annoyed by them and then there's total disrespect.

It's the new school of internet fan. They're desperate for Manchester United to turn into a Spanish club like Barca or Real.

Anything that ties us to our British-ness or our heritage is automatically 'bad'.

It’s absolutely unbelievable. It’s mostly by posters that were die hard Mourinho supporters.

People need to show some fecking loyalty.

It's unbelievable. Academy kids who were also friends played together for the club for so long (in 3 cases their entire career) winning everything there is to win and 2 of them rejected big offers from Serie A to stay at club but gets so much shit here.

Like OP mentioned, in Giggs case its easy to see why, but Scholes?

Simple, some of our so-called fans are absolute thundercnuts.

Think it became "a thing" off the back of Giggsy being discussed for the manager role and his classmates making the case for an inside man. To those permanently hellbent on some big time fancy name, be it manager or player, that's like facing the devil incarnate: people who have a history with the club, know the club, and can reasonably be expected to sway opinion should never, ever, dare to hold an opinion different from their own. God forbid, they should never ever be proved right on anything.

Hell hath no fury like a keyboard warrior crossed.

This seems true. I'm not British and don't care about England national team but United has always had a strong British core and heritage. The class of 92 is a strong part of the clubs identity. We have a beautiful historic downtown and these new fans want to raze it and make a 100 story tall soulless building!

Redcafe isn't entirely representative of the majority of United supporters. The very fact that 'fans' here spend more time giving a play by play assessment of games where and when United is playing instead of waiting until half time or the end of the game or a flashpoint is a strong indicator that some perceptions are warped by social media ( message boards being one of them).

Neville can go over the top in his efforts to look impartial and Scholes' constant insinuation that whatever it is, it was better in his day, gets a bit tiring. I don't understand the hatred some of them get mind.

So to check, is it ok to say "that's a bit of a joke" about Scholes quitting his beloved home town club after 7 games?
Or is that disrespect?

Is every future action by the 92 gang to be treated with 100% backing?

It's a strange argument to make alright.
It's ok to still love our ex players but their post playing career surely has to be judged on its own merits? If I thought my best mate was talking nonsense about Utd i would call him out on it so why shouldn't Neville get it when he's crying about Pogbas hair colour?

I only have something against the Neville brothers. Gary is just a massive cnut towards United these days, and Phil is clueless. Nobody cares for Phil anyway i feel.

Yeah, this is my issue. They are absolute legends of the club and I'll always love all of them for that but that doesn't mean that they should be above criticism. Obviously anyone saying "I'm glad they failed" is a twat and should be set on fire but criticising him resigning after that short a time should be fine.

Yep, it feels the only way to objectively look at it.
My first reaction was "what on earth" to Scholes already having gone! Unbelievable really. I never thought it was the right role for him anyway. He holds the respect as a guy, but I just can't imagine him as a manager. A youth team coach or something maybe, but never a manager.

G Nev will always be an ex player I love.
Phil - I appreciate his United service of course, but he's got such an infuriating whiny style, I can't be dealing with him as anything since.

But don't you feel sad about it? Do you not wish the best for Scholes? Just wondering. I don't think that's as extreme of an opinion to the ones I'm alluding to -- "serves him right" or "this will teach him"

Agreed. Think it was more about wanting to join his boyhood team than any actual desire to be a manager which isn't a recipe for success. Mind, I didn't expect him to want to go into punditry so I may be way off the mark here.

Let's be honest here, footballers go into punditry because it requires no skill at all. Sometimes they make the step into management and fair play to them for doing so. It's a whole different ball game as many find out.

Next you know these "fans" will be wishing ill towards Sir Alex. "Hah! Serves him right for all those no value in the market comments!".
SAF doesn't spout shit about the club though. And he very much could have despite being the ambassador or whatever the post is.

I don't really care what the CO92 do with their shit as long as it's not interwoven with our club matters but I can very much understand the people who have the 'heh' moment now in regards to Scholes.

No one has an issue with saying how bad Scholes was as a manager (although that's a separate issue). It's fans who are treating this as some sort of Karma that he deserves for being a total cnut. The guy lost his job which seemed like a dream move for him. It's quite unfortunate and sad. I fail to understand how it can be celebrated is all.

Pretty much this. The number of fans here who whine on here about how other clubs sign big players while we don't blah blah blah is just embarrassing. Apparently there's no "United way" either and there's nothing special about this club, we are same as every big club. Our legends are knobs because they don't have the same opinions as the CAF experts and players like McTominay who can't do fancy stuff with the ball are useless.

What I don't understand is in a world where there are already so many "big clubs" who do things the right way according to our esteemed "fans", why would you torture yourself by supporting Utd who apparently do everything wrong?

Yeah, that's fair enough and as I said, anyone who's reaction to this is to gloat is a wierdo. It's just way too often you see people taking any criticism as being disrespectful and I don't think that's right. But if this is just about the people taking joy from this then fine.

People have long said he was lying about the Glazers providing enough funds, and it was only his incredible management that kept the heat off them.

Scholesy keeps it real in the media, if he genuinely thinks something he'll just say it.

Gary Neville on the other hand, very political and has said some pretty hypocritcal/dubious/delusional things, he's fair game for a bit of criticism at times.

Generally though there should be a bit more respect for the class of 92 for sure, they're not nearly as bad as your Ince's and Schmeichel's of this world.

On the contrary, some fans want nothing but sweetness be shown towards the Class of 92.

It doesn't work that way. Once they go outside the club fold and into other football avenues which they have every right to, their United careers can't be used as shields for them to be treated differently as others.

Scholes was doing his job as a pundit, sure, but I felt there was an arrogance involved when he spoke the way he did about Van Gaal's and Jose's teams. Pundits need to learn to differentiate between criticizing teams and telling what the manager should be doing and should not be doing. When you speak of how the football was in Fergie years and define it as the Man Utd way which every manager till the end of eternity should be following, you are basically asking some of the best managers of the generation to ditch their philosophies and do what United did when these players were successful under Fergie.

If you expect that to not rub some people the wrong way, you'd as well forget Giggs and his affair because he is from the class of 92.

people just can't seem to handle someone having a different opinion these days

so for guys like Neville and Scholes who are paid to have opinions, its not that surprising that people get their panties in a twist

You'll need a bit of consistency for that point to hit home. Where was the sympathy for Jose losing his dream job when Scholes was taking every opportunity to put him down? I've lost a little respect for Scholes after he behaved in the manner that he did. Fair enough he didn't think Jose was good enough, and fair enough his job was to analyse the jobs players and managers were doing, but it was a concerted effort to criticize the manager whenever possible, and I think that did far more damage to the club than many realise.

Nailed it.
