Inter are the original muppets. In fact they separated from AC Milan because they wanted to sign those shiny foreign signings at a time when Milan wanted to sign Italian players only. Inter fans are among the most demanding supporters in Italy, they are as deluded as Liverpool fans and they just love a conspiracy theory.
Interesting, I didnt know that - about the foreign players thing. When Inter signed Paul Ince I remember there being a bit of a furore because Inter didnt have much of a record of signing black players, whereas AC Milan did. Which is kind of interesting, set against what you said. I know black does not equal foreign, but it is interesting if one club didnt want to sign foreign players, but then ended up being quite relaxed about signing black players, whereas another wanted to sign foreigners, but did not sign black players.

Or is that not right, about Inter and black players? (Apologies, I appreciate this is off topic, but just interested.)

Bear in mind that the Inter-Milan break up was in the early 1900s.

It's kind of weird. Mourinho is one the most succesfull managers of all time, arguably 2nd only to SAF, yet he's just so past it and toxic. Both Ancelotti, Conte and OGS have made him look like a mug. Can't see why any major club would him these days especially how he makes it all about him while taking digs at the stature of the clubs.

I think you're mixing them with Lazio and Aaron Winter, they are the fascists not Inter. Inter are the original muppets of Serie A football and the biggest conspiracy theorists in football. If they aren't the ones winning the league then surely someone is working in the shadows to win it in an illegal way.

Its not that weird really. A lot of managers burn bright for a period of time, I was going to say a short period, but Mourinho had a good 10 years or so at the top, it wasnt a short time exactly. But the point is, managers come along, they are shit hot, at the top of the game, and then their time is up and they are past it.

Managers that can adapt to the constant evolution of the game are much rarer.

You might be right. I thought there was a specific issue with Ince and fans being against him signing because he was black. But I could be completely wrong.

The man is absolutely finished at the top level, but he’s in complete denial as you’d expect. If he had an sense he’d start at a lower tier club and rebuild his credibility and reputation.

I'm not kidding when I suggested Lyon or Monaco a few months ago. Both clubs have enough money and pull to attract good players and be at Atletico's level, they also have the particularity to be relatively safe clubs because Aulas isn't a lunatic and can easily impose a manager to the fans and media while Monaco's fans aren't in Monaco which means that he can work in a quite environment for the better part of the season even when things are tense.

Hopefully Pep packs his bags at the end of the season and they need a new manager. Couldn’t think of two entities more deserving of each other.

Yeah, he needs to rehabilitate his reputation. Inter probably is his best option in the short to medium term. Failing that, either a national team, like Portugal, or even one of the Portuguese teams.

If it was an EPL team, I could see Everton being a great fit. Team is on the cusp (like Spurs a decade ago) & looks to be able to have the resources. If they could actually defend properly, they'd be dangerous. Plus he could be a thorn in the side of all his managerial rivals & teams he likes to stick it too. He needs a real project, not just a turn key team that already has most of the pieces or can easily acquire them.

All that may be true but Real Madrid were apparently about to hire him before Zidane shocked everyone and decided to go back so it's not like he's not getting any offers from big clubs like some people in here are claiming. Like I said, a return to Inter could be on the cards as he's adored there.
Yes, it was only apparently though wasn't it?The only noises about it were coming from Jose himself and from Calderón who is no longer connected to the club. In fact, he later backtracked and said that the players always wanted Zidane and never wanted Mourinho.

And that's the point. Top modern players don't want to play for a manager like Mourinho. They are used to winning. Mourinho no longer wins - why bring his toxicity to a club then?

Regarding Inter, they are not even the most glamorous club in Milan. Notwithstanding their decent history, as @damageinc. points out, they are not an elite club - not the best of the best which is what Mourinho still imagines himself to be. Real, Barca, Bayern, Juventus (and United) will never hire Mourinho, when 4-8 years ago, they might have. Also, Inter will be in for a shock - this Mourinho is not the same as the 2008/10 one.

I still think he will end up at Portugal.

Fernando Santos is 64 now and if they don't perform when they play the Nations League on their own turf then I reckon we could see a change there.

He should train some nt. The "spanish" style is not so dominant at nt level anymore and he could very well be competitive.

No, Fernando Santos will be there until 2020, what happens with Switzerland on the Nations League is irrelevant.

I don't see Mourinho taking international football just yet. He has in the past said he would like to manage the NT, but like a pre-retirement sort of thing.

If Inter lose the Milan derby this weekend then a job opening might be happening for him

Agreed. He could take over a talented but directionless 2020 team. The Dutch team would probably mutiny but their best players are CBs, would suit Mourinho well.

I don't see him coaching any national team.
Who would he blame for transfers then? He'd have to blame the government for not giving citizenship for immigrant players..

He is more like Wenger than he cares to admit.

Its fair to say his is finished as a top tier coach, for the same thing to happen at multiple clubs is not a structural fialing at the clubs, but his own short comings.

Although there is a chance he takes a smaller job, becomes the repentant, humble jose like he was for a couple of years, where he can be the underdog and make out he has changed, that might land him a big job again.

So let me go against the tide here as usual....

I disagree with the notion that Mourinho is finished. First of all, as things stand in terms of winning, he is still one of the top 10 managers in world football in title terms considering the last 5-6 seasons. One EPL title, one Europa League title, two League Cup titles, two community shields, two runners up positions in the EPL and one FA Cup final. If he finds the right team, Jose will still win and in football, winning is always an ace.

Secondly, in terms of the way club football is fickle these days, any manager with a high profile, sooner or later, will get called by a desperate top club. Clubs are more impatient now than they have ever been. The average time a manager spends at a club these days is four seasons. If the reports are to be believed, Madrid almost hired him, PSG has an eye on him and Inter might be keen on him. He just needs to go to one of those, win and wait for another top club that is desperate for short term results.

Thirdly, the second tier clubs are getting more funded and in some cases being eyed more and more by some rich people/organisations keen on investing in football. Such clubs will always be looking for mercenary like managers like Jose who can deliver in the short to mid term.

Mourinho's career has taken a hit and I agree with those who say he is an endangered species right now as a manager. But
the only factor that can really destroy Mourinho's career is if he loses his passion or fails to even try to evolve in the way he manages players.

He's fell out with his own players and lost the dressing room 3 clubs running.

He won't evolve, he cannot get along with modern players, he seems to actively hate modern young players. He hasn't moved with the times.

I know you're one of the last big Mourinho fans left on here but I think you're being wildly optimistic in thinking that he'll ever change. He is what he is. Of all the elite clubs he's either already managed them and left on bad terms or he's been such a prick that they'd never in a million years hire him like at Barcelona or Juventus.

It's only really Inter left.

Mourinho was 'finished' in 2010. Everything else after was him ticking things off his bucket list. Managing the biggest club in Spain and England, having a go at a long term project (and failing). He is not like SAF, who has an endless hunger and is big enough to change the face of English football. He's already won everything at club level and lost part of his competitive edge because of it.

I think the best course of action is to follow Ancelotti and manage a 2nd tier club looking to improve or manage Portugal. He cannot handle the egos that come with 1st tier clubs anymore. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to Chelsea a third time.

I do wonder what he was thinking the last six months at United. He knew he had left the club with no other choice than to sack him (yet again) and he probably doesn't understand that he's ruining his own career.

Well, let's wait and see. You are right though, I do like the chap. More out of my natural affinity for villains in sports. Football needs pricks like Jose. I mean that's what makes the game the game, isn't it? The good, the bad and the ugly.

On a serious note, I totally agree that his options are thinning out. He has a few cards left and he absolutely has to play them right otherwise, it's curtains on his career.

Inter has not lost to Milan in a while so this might not be his weekend. PSG seems made for Jose. Short term, super star mercenaries, plenty of money, champions league football, and fair chance to win in Europe, another domestic league title in another country, etc.

By the way, good to see that the Milan teams are in the running for champions league spots again. Would be nice to see them in Europe again.
