Hopefully it was a 24 hour bug as with Lukaku out there's a real chance for him to get some game time against Wolves.
It might be a blessing in disguise if Lukaku is out. Greenwood starting the game would be particularly exciting, and it'll send out a signal to other top young talents around, that we're a club to be at.

Lot of positives from Greenwood getting a start I agree, it would just add an extra buzz to the game.

Ideally I'd like to see him make his first start in a easier game at OT.

Your post was shit the first time. No need to see it more than once.

It's alright if somebody doesn't rate Rashford as an elite talent but the utterly dismissive and almost vindictive nature comes across as extremely strange. Rashford doesn't have the most incredible technical abilities (he's inconsistent in this regard but A) he's got a well rounded game that doesn't depend on merely a single aspect B) he'd only 21 and can develop his effectiveness, including when it comes to the technical side and C) even if he doesn't end up elite he's going to be very good at the very least.

Primitive

Well that's what I'm saying. If you compare Rashford to Neymar and say he is lacking technically then yeah, it's correct. Not compared to Martial.
Martial is comfortably ahead of Rashford in terms of technical quality. Rashford is quicker and has better movement and I'm sure he's better in other areas. Both have their own qualities but Martial is definitely superior technically.

Martial is better dribbler and apart from that I can't say there is any aspect where Martial is better (or comfortably better). I agree Martial is bit better technically but my point is Rashford isn't lacking technically compared to Martial as they are close in that aspect with Martial bit better.

If we compare Neymar to Rashford then yes Rashford is limited technically, but not compared Martial. Thats the point I was arguing and I believe they are close.

How do you define technical? For me, I think Rashford has more good technical abilities that Martial is not better than like crossing, free kick, strike balls, long shots, movement off the ball, Martial has better dribbling, deadly finesse shot, ball control. Rashford has a good dribble but lack ball control when dribbling. I think many defenders would prefer to play against Martial instead of Rashford who could cause them more trouble with his pace, aggression, off movement and press the defense.

Depends on the situation. You don't want to defend Martial 1v1. In the wider context of the match Rashford is more difficult to defend because of his movement and work rate.

Rashford is technically and intellectually primitive - neither him nor Lingard will be anywhere near the England squad by 2022, such is the depth of attacking talent on the horizon for England.

Greenwood could be the most golden of that golden generation; he’s a fantastic footballer, and oozes elite class.

I can see Rashford staying around in the long term, and being a regular option from the bench etc, but if the club can keep Martial, cultivate Mason’s talent at a versatile #9 and sign Sancho, there’s no way he eclipses and displaces any of those three.
I want Rashford to succeed but watching him play now is a pain. His displays are not because of his technical issues or his lack of experience, it's his selfish attitude and bad decision making which has crept into his game. He hast started to believe his own hype.

Martial is a better dribbler and a better passer. He created more chances then Rashford has. He is a much better header of the ball and far better at finishing. His movement isn't great on the wing, but Rashfords movement in the box isn't great. His decision making is also better than Rashfords by a big margin. Rashford is very selfish. Rashford beats Martial in pace and character.

"Technically and intellectually primitive" should be your tagline.

On a positive note; Both are lacking in areas that can be trained/learned/improved. If they are able to do this, then they become deadly.

Greenwood is the most complete among our attacking players in regards to abilities.

Blessing in disguise our in-form striker is out of a cup quarter-final because he's injured, really? I know Lukaku gets some hate around here and I'm not his biggest fan but I'd rather we went with Lukaku than Greenwood starting this.

Young talents around will know that part of our DNA is bringing youth players through, they'll have seen Rashfords rise in recent seasons, along with Pogba, Lingard, McTominay, Greenwood, Chong, Pereira and Gomes all getting first team minutes since Ole has taken charge, everyone will have been watching the PSG game and taken note.

I'd say Lukaku with a sore foot has more of a chance of making it than Greenwood not training all week due to illness and I'd rather it be that way for this game, Lukaku would be a big miss for us whilst he's in his purple patch.

I don't hate Lukaku but i'd like to see Greenwood start due to me knowing his family quite well, I guess i'm biased.

Rashford is the best crosser in the team but hardly crosses. He does have the ability. The point I was making was Martial has far more technical ability, I think Rashford is becoming overrated by fans just because he is from the academy. I agree, Greenwood is far higher rated then Rashford was in the academy and for good reason. He is intelligent in his movement, good decision making, passing and 1v1 finishing. However, the step up to the first team requires hard work. Imo, if Greenwood puts in the effort Rashford does then he will surpass him, its just about the mentality now. As a footballer he is more complete with a variety of goals whereas Rashford has 9/10 goals with his right foot.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love him to start and tear it up but Lukaku is in great form at the moment and we need him to keep that going. If he's trained today, I'm guessing Greenwood will feature at some stage.

Everyone who thinks Greenwood will make nearly as much impact in this game as Lukaku would is deluded, he is 17 and will need time to fulfill his potential, right now Lukaku is, or was until Arsenal's game, in great form and is an important loss. Greenwood for sure is looking great in the under 20s league, but consider that most of the players in that league won't even make it to the Premier, it's a huge huge step from one league to another.

Yea basically this.
It's not just about doing good for the reserve, Rashford got his chance because of injuries and no one really stepping up in 15/16 aside of Martial.
Right now we have attackers who are playing well, Lukaku is hitting form, Rashford has been fantastic under Ole, Martial is Martial no words needed.
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get much playtime until 2020/21 rather than just last season.

We would need to offload either Sanchez or Lingard for him to join the squad.

Agree on Rashford/Martial technical ability.

Heart says start him, head says give him 20 minutes if the conditions are right.

I am a huge fan of greenwood, think he is the most compete talent we have had in years. I just don’t think wolves away from RW/RF is the game for his first start.

Wolves fullbacks Jonny and Docherty provide almost all of their width and bomb on a lot.

Asking what is essentially a 17 year old striker to put in a disciplined performance from the right, away from home, in an FA cup 1/4 final may be a bit much.

Hope he gets minutes though. Hopefully a start back at Old Trafford before the end of the season will come.

I can understand the hype surrounding Mason, he has the look of a future star. But the hype is going crazy before he has done anything of notice for the first team. Let's not get hysterical. Wasn't Bojan scoring 100 goals a year at youth level and considered a better prospect than Messi?

To put Rashford down in order to big up an youngster is a bit daft. There is a serious gap between football at youth and top professional level and not all talents manage to succeed.

I agree, the hype is a bit much. Let's be honest, most of us will only have seen youtube highlights.

It isn’t. You only need to pop out of the caf for 5 minutes to realise that. Nobody is speaking of him.

What is superior technically? Martial has better dribbling... that’s it probably.

Rashford has the better shot, and many other things (in my opinion).

If dribbling is all it takes to be superior technically, then I guess martial is superior....

Martial’s actually a very good passer, it’s not mentioned often but he certainly has a pass on him. Either way, again, it shouldn’t matter who has the better technique or what not because they all play for us. I’ve seen nearly every game Greenwood’s played since he broke through to the U18s and personally I don’t think he’ll play on the wings for us.

I was just referring to the “Martial is comfortably ahead of Rashford in terms of technical quality” comment from the previous poster.... I don’t see how that’s true, that’s all. And I wanted to know where the superior technical quality is, besides his close control dribbling.

He shouldn’t start ahead of Rom and doubt Ole will do it. he’s 17 if we go down 1-0 or lose, this fella is going to be told on here he’s too young , it’s too early for him , poor defensively, send him on loan etc etc
Gave him half an hour when we’re up 2-0 !

Cleaner technique, better first touch, close control/dribbling/manipulation of the ball. I'd take his short passing, ability to operate in tight spaces and finishing as well.

I have unintentionally gotten into a serious comparison between the two so I'll even it out with Rashford's areas of superiority - work rate, movement, speed, pro-activeness, tricks? Long range shooting.

I just feel Martial's strength's and areas of superiority all lie in the technical sphere.
