I’m only on episode 2 but I’d recommend it so far, especially for those who were unaware of what transpired that evening
People really unaware of what happened?! This story has been retold year after year in the press etc so unless you're 9 or 10 anyone with minimal interest would know most of details and theories.

Amazed they've got enough speculative stuff to string out 8 hours of material.

Have to say that's one of my pet hates with modern documentaries/series, how they're strung out over 3/4 episodes when 1 or 2 can wrap things up.

Being missing at tender age of 3, she could be just grown up being another person altogether if she's still alive. Its not that impossible.

Not a chance she's alive, if she was actually even taken. No one would keep her alive with all the media attention it had.

As Vangagal said above, she could well be alive and not know any different as to the environment she has grown up in (she was only 3 when she went missing not 5 or 6 when you're more aware of your family and home etc).

Reality is this will be like Ben Needham case and we'll never know what happened.

Richard D. Hall has produced a number of documentaries about this case. I think they're still on YouTube if you're interested. He's made them on a very low budget but they are very good. I don't agree with all of his conclusions but he brings up a lot of interesting points.

It's not about her knowing who she is. More the risk of someone recognising her. Half the world has her image burnt into their minds. In those early months and years after her disappearance, it wouldve been risky.

I have always believed they accidentally killed her.

Watching this now, 2 episodes in, i have absolutely now idea how they'd have disposed of the body after the media got involved. They appear to be followed everywhere.

Im now wondering did they get help from their friends that night before alerting authorities?

Isn't he convinced the parents killed her and it's been this big cover up from higher up?

Yep, that's about the size of it, but he does raise interesting questions about the involvement of people like Clarence Mitchell Clement Freud, and Gordon Brown. He goes down a number of blind alleys but his analysis of the statements of the 'tapas 7' is very perceptive. Hall's main beef is that the mainstream media have aided and abetted a cover-up from the start.

But why the cover up though? I don't believe that's what happened for what it's worth.

Most interesting point Hall made is that he believes she allegedly died/disappeared on the Sunday not the Thursday evening when contact was made with police....and press.

Would've allowed them time to properly dispense with body as I agree trying to do it when everyone was watching them when news broke would've been near impossible. Also got stories and timelines reasonably right.

Read in another thread there's also internet archive of a cached page that was made of "find Madeleine Mccann" internet page 3 days before she actually went missing which is pretty odd.

My gut instinct a few weeks after in 2007 was no way parents were actually involved in her demise as I just couldn't believe they could act like they did with that secret inside them.

As the years have passed and no real progress in investigation I have more open mind now. Still think this will remain mystery like Ben Needham and indeed Suzy Lamplaugh.

I find it hard to believe that his own parents kill her. Accidentally maybe, but that just one hell of theory.
For those who allege parents did it, I think belief is sedatives were given nightly to the 3 children to drop them off to sleep (while they went off to their dinners by the pool) and there might've been an overdose involve.

Think it was confirmed anyway they did give stuff to the kids so that isn't speculation.

The one real problem I have with Hall is his use of a 'statement analyst' to bolster his claim that the McCanns lied throughout. It's pretty much pseudoscience; well, hocus-pocus really and you may as well try and divine the truth with chicken bones. I was curious about the other doctor who made sexual gestures over dinner suggesting sex with children. Hall does make some tenuous connections at times but he does a good job casting doubt on some of the witnesses.

Honestly, I believe their own version of events. The problem is, even their own version paints them as incredibly selfish and negligent parents who should have had their other kids taken off them.

And while I understand their own desire to search for their daughter, I've yet to hear an explanation from the police as to why this child is more worthy than the other children they've given up on.

Watched episode one so far. Didn't realise she was an IVF baby as well. So the parents were so desperate for a child, then they go on a mark Warner holiday, put her in a creche all day then leave her in bed while they go out for dinner.

One of the first things i said. They'd have been better leaving the kids at home. They shipped them off to a kids club all day, drugged them at night. Wasnt much parenting going on

I’d add weird and borderline creepy to that list. Rare but not unknown among doctors. Still not evidence that they are murderers though.

I just don’t see how they could have been involved without massive help from their friends, and they don’t seem to be the sort of people to inspire such devotion and loyalty.

Any explanation involving pedophile rings in high places can be discounted as obvious bollocks.

I still think they have sold her.
Sold her for what?

Weren’t they both wealthy doctors hence why this story has always been in the news for about more than a decade. Either they covered it up or she has really gone missing. I don’t believe they sold her as it just doesn’t add up with their wealthy backgrounds.

I guarantee if they weren't middle class drs there would be a while lot more focus on the negligence of their "parenting"

Watched the first episode last night.

Just brought back my feelings of how terrible the parents are. Don't care what system you have in place, don't fecking leave tiny kids alone at night. Also hate that at the time, you had so many people/parents saying they do the same thing on holiday.

Well, the documentary is on Netflix in all the non-UK places...

I’ve never heard of Madeleine McCann in my life.

Just got reminded on Facebook of when Kate McCann wrote about Maddy's "perfect little genitals".

I find it so hard to believe they weren't involved in some way.
