Good stuff. O'Connor has always been class for the youth teams. Often when United were awful and didn't have much control of the game, O'Connor was usually the one who due to his class on the ball, helps re-control the game from the back either by passing or dribbling.

How tall is he at the moment? He always looked a class player but he was short, has he grown up a bit maybe? Can we develop him as a CB?

Still relatively small and skinny for a CB I'd say I'm afraid. Young enough to fill out though and there have been class CBs in the past who weren't the tallest e.g. Cannavaro and Ayala, but if you put a Luger to my head I'd have to say he'll remain a full back.

Let's hope it pens out like with Gary Neville at worst :D

Jokes aside, the kid is great, and I for one, can't wait for a CB produced by our academy again. I have great hopes for Tuanzebe but if Lee grows some more, we could have an even better talent.

It would be brilliant if he got capped for Ireland soon. Jose might realise there are other options than Young and Valencia.

Also a note on Jimmy Dunne, who has really developed at Aberdeen and has been called up .

However, the Waterford native — who can operate in the centre and on the left side of defence — won’t be in contention to make his senior international debut this evening, having been omitted from the match-day squad which is restricted to 23 players.

Shame, great experience for him nevertheless

Congrats to the kid. With him and Ethan Laird United could hopefully have those fullback positions sewn up for years to come.

Get him into the first team.
I would like the same too, but Ole hasn't proven he believes in youth. It feels more like talk than action because he just gives little cameos to the players. None of Greenwood, Chong, Gomes, or Garner have gotten a start or even 45 minutes. Chong has only gotten 30 minutes against a bottom 2nd division side. In contrast, as much as I'm not a fan of LVG and easily prefer Ole, he would throw in even Blackett and McNair into the team. Blackett got 650 minutes for United for reference (which I didn't want lol). Now that's giving the youth a chance.

Is it fair to throw in players who aren't ready though?

Do you think he's ready for mens football? Any clips I've seen make him seem mature on the ball beyond his years, but physically I'm not so sure.
Ready as he'll ever be. He isn't going to suddenly get more ready playing for the u23s. As you allude to he's an extremely mature player, he's one of the most composed and intelligent defenders I've ever seen. Sure he's not physically ready to play CB but he'd be fine at fullback. He has the pace and intelligence to deal with it. I'd much rather see him getting a chance than pulling Darmian out of wherever he is hiding or bloody Rojo at LB.

He do tend to have «concentration lapses»?

Fair for players who aren’t ready? I think some fans are exaggerating with this nonsense. Most of the kids in the youth teams would give an arm for a chance in the first team, and it’s much fairer then not getting a chance like 90% of them.

Was the Sky commentator right in saying Shaw misses two games for getting his 10th yellow? Which means we’ve no Young or Shaw in our next game. I know Lee’s a very versatile player. Has he played on both flanks?
Expect Rojo and Dalot to be our fullbacks for the time being.

Lindelöf has played right back a few times in his career, might be a safer option than Dalot.

He played both sides in his time here but mainly on the left, usually due to the other fullback being a RB. He also played a lot of CB for the u18s.

I wouldn't expect to see any of them. We'll no doubt use some mix of Darmian and Rojo or just push Lindelof or Jones wide.
