I like Sancho, but not sure he is the type of attacking player we need. Think we need a more dominant winger with higher creativity. Would certainly want him too though.
Sancho is a creative winger. Has 18 assists so far this season for club. I think he's exactly what we need as width on both wings is the way forward rather than just playing on the left every game.

Do baby-face and woody realise that not getting into the CL will mean half those names won't come or we would spend at least 1.5x what we would normally spend to get the same players?

The whole reason why we are in this message is because we have been out of the CL and we so we had to buy lower caliber players for inflated fees!

We signed Pogba without CL football. I don't think that will be as big of a problem as some of us fear. If the players we want believe in Ole's project then I don't think a season without CL football would affect things that drastically but that is the issue, they will have to be fully convinced it's only a one year blip. Either way if we finish outside the top 4 and the club doesn't wake the feck up and do something about it in the summer then scrapping for 4th is what we are going to end up doing every single season.

I wouldn't normally be a fan of clearing this much out on one go, but I think it needs to be done. Even the players we have now a lot of us want to keep, let's be honest they aren't good enough. I like Herrera and Mata, and I've no doubt they will have decent ends to their career in Europe if they leave. But for the type of team Ole would want these guys don't fit. Hitting teams with pace on the counter. Some even on here were finding pluses in Fellaini's game at the end. Its great to support the team but sometimes you just have to admit we need changes. We need to draw a line in the sand and start again. Klopp and Pep didn't win the league in their 1st season, but they had a plan, and now their teams are set they will be challenging for the foreseeable. It might be a case of next season adapting to our new players, but if we see we are going in the right direction and playing football the right way, our fans and club will give Ole the time he needs.

people are too quick to think everything is a press briefing

sometimes they just decide to write similar stories, they all know each other and know it adds legitimacy to their bs

 Reminds me of those stories about £100m for a centre back only to do feck all in the market. We are incredibly slow in the market, and that is down to whoever is responsible for negotiating transfers (Woodward, Arnold, who fecking knows). Also, isn't it nice that this gets released right around a loss that makes top 4 very difficult.

we were slow because Moyes dithered and Mourinho dithered. When LVG was here he knew who he wanted so the club tied the deals quickly. He wanted Memphis and we signed him in May. Bastian and Schniederlin were confirmed together.
Mourinho had a list of 1,2,3 and Moyes spent the whole summer chasing unrealistic targets. Ole said some agents have been in touch with the club already at his unveiling so I expect most of these signings to be tied up before the pre season.

I'm a little underwhelmed by the list of targets mentioned to be honest. Don't think we'll be much better then what we are currently if we sign them - at least in the short term.

Sancho - He is putting up good numbers in the Bundesliga but can't expect such a young player to transform our non-functional attack. Ideally we need someone right in their prime to invigorate our attack, what Sanchez was meant to be. Maybe Griezmann?

Rice - I am not sure how good he really is. Is he better than Dier for example?

AWB - Not that good going forward, we will continue to face issues due to our blunt right side.

Koulibaly/Varane - Either of these will be good as long as we are in the VVD fee range.
Obsession with the days of old isn't it? Must have all the young English talent like Fergie did...

How about Woodward keeps his mouth shut and just gets on with it and goes about our business in the background without leaking to the press who we want, i am sure as fans we are not so insecure that we need a briefing from Eddie boy , and even if we are i don't see how it comforts us , the reality is we may get 2 of the above mentioned whilst dicking around signing Indonesian tractor partners going off his past record.
If it is actually leaked from the club then the main objective is not pleasing us fans, it's a pure tactical approach to increase the chance of getting the mentioned players! It is smart because those potential players mentioned will be intrigued if they are interesting in joining United. As a result (if they are interested) they will make it harder for their respective current clubs to keep them. It's how it works! The negative side is a drop in motivation for the mentioned players on their way out.

Either its all talk leading to another dissapointing summer or they will pay out. To be honest, net spend is small this year because we havent spent last summer. Also, they werent keen to back Mourinho, imagine if they had let him spend a fortune on Willian, Godin and anyone else past their prime and injury prone

We need more than 5 imo especially if we ship out 6 unless he believes in Mason, Chong etc.
5 is good IMO, Rice, AWB, Sancho, Fernandes and a top class CB. I really believe in Mason and Gomes (in that deeper role).
Not sure how it will all work out but it's gonna be a massive summer for us.

Remember how many assists Mkhitaryan had in his last year at Dortmund? Not exactly similar situations I know, but hesitant to use the assists stat from the Bundesliga to judge creativity. Saying that, I’d love to see Sancho here.

Here are my 5 signings if Pogba and DDG stay:

1. Sancho - for obvious reasons stated by many: young, hungry, English and suits our RW very well
2. Wan Bissaka - Solid RB, young and English, room for offensive improvement, can fight it out with Dalot (who can cover our RW and LB slots too)
3. Koulibaly/Varane - Either one is fine to lead and provide more experience to our backline
4. Rodri - Mobile and strong DM who provides quick passing
5. Bruno Fernandes - hard-working attack-minded CM who packs a hell of a shot and gives opponents another problem from midfield to think about besides Pogba

He's just doing all these "Leaks" to get fans to renew their season pass as soon as possible. He did the same with Ole's appointment, took the opportunity to offer the fans financial options for the renew.

Completely insane to spend all that without a DoF having been part of diagnosing what is wrong, and what the overall strategy is.

What does Woodward gain from briefing all the papers like this?

I doubt we will spend north of £300m, even if you remove Bruno Fernandes that's more than £250m

Such stories are miles off the mark every summer, I don't know why people fall for it.

I’m glad we’ve made our everyone aware of our intent in the same window Bayern and Madrid have been making similar noises.

It’s reverse tapping up in a way.

I’m more excited about the potential leavers than I am recruits at the moment. It appears almost all our native Spanish speakers will be cut loose? Perhaps there is an unhealthy clic behind the scenes?

Five in makes sense if Herrera is going, it's whether we get the right five that is questionable, not a fan of the British core stuff, Fergie's ideals are long gone and the current British talent available is inferior to the French, German, Spanish and Italian options in most positions, especially midfield where we haven't produced a quality player since Carrick.

I'm a fan of the British core stuff if it's about the current 18 year olds like Sancho and Hudson Odoi. It's a really talented generation. Probably the only time I'll say that tbh.

My signings would be AWB, Bruno Fernandes/Ndombele, Sancho/Felix, Koulibaly/Varane, Rice/Partey

Chances of get Sancho is 50/50 so if he doesn't work out then I'd love for us to go for Felix as both have the same level of potential. However it would mean we would have to play using the diamond formation

I don't know who I'd prefer in Rice and Partey because I don't know who is better. I would choose the one who is more mobile, press resistant and has a decent pass

Lineup(4-3-3): DDG AWB Lindelof Varane/Koulibaly Shaw Partey/Rice Fernandes Pogba Sancho Rashford Martial

Alternate lineup(4-1-2-1): DDG AWB Lindelof Varane/Koulibaly Shaw Partey/Rice Ndombele Pogba Felix Rashford Martial

Where the grass is greener.
The squad needs a total facelift, shame we've already resigned so much dross, but it can't be helped. We need a new era, and that's hard to achieve when you've got relics of the past weighing the quality of the squad down.

Sancho has a dynamic with some of our players already and him being english helps.

As Liverpool and City and all the big boys in Europe find and develop fullbacks who can play in attack and put a mean cross in, you mean to tell me we're going to go the opposite way and throw out two defensive fullbacks?
