It's becoming harder to be critical about a player that is in clear decline. Europe shows how far wea are off at times. Never mind a first choice full back, he's not a United captain.

Here, there, everywhere...
Was never good enough to play for us, but is captaining the side 8 or 9 years later. Mind boggling stuff. People will write thesis on our ineptitude since Sir Alex left.

Also there is another thing he is doing on regular basis, when we switch a play on the right, he sometimes gets in situation where he has acres of space and enough time for a cross but for some reason he starts moving towards a defender closer and closer, which usually leads to a block, weird.
He wants the ball, always has his hands down like 'why aren't you passing it?', but once he gets the ball he can't wait to get rid of it, be it hoof it down the field or pass/cross it blindly hoping it hits a team-mate. When you're not looking where you're sending balls you generally miss most of your passes and 99% of your crosses, which co-incide with his stats.

Someone mentioned how to explain his few assists if he's so bad...a broken clock is right twice a day. He gets acres of space because teams don't fear him at all, so he gets plenty of chances to get crosses in.

And call it petty, but I also hate how he's the first one in line to try and take a free kick. Or insists on being the dummy kicker. Just leave the area and let the scorers shoot please.

United never took importance of captaincy seriously post Ferguson era. A catastrophic move.

Valencia and young captains of a club like Man Utd! A captain of Man Utd who can't walk into any premier league club, let alone European elites. Crazy stuff.

Disgraceful stuff seeing this guy captaining Manchester United. Barcelona had Messi as a captain while we have this plonker to lead us in the 1/4 final of the CL. I hope Woodward watching that shit last night realizes how inept he is in leading the club since he took over, allowing this to happen.

So why is it so obvious to us fans that Young is clearly not fit to wear a United jersey let alone be our captain but Ole keeps starting him every match? What is wrong with our club? How come we're now championing mediocrity?

If Ole is going to keep on picking this clown then Man United will never return to the top.

This fecking guy. Could have sworn the Caf was exaggerating about how poor he was while reading some of the posts on here. Then I saw the game. Shat himself every time the ball came his way. Either he’s the biggest fecking coward to ever put on the shirt or his legs are completely gone. Either way, will be very disappointed if Ole trusts him again. Rather see Smalling play right back ffs.
I'd rather put Romero at right back! Or even Jones!

You literally can't do worse than dispossed 32 times and 11 crosses not hitting the target!

Having a poor match, but will improve, I'm certain of it!

Seriously worse performance I've ever seen.

Was sitting with the 11 year old wee lad and even he couldn't stop laughing, any time the ball came near him he managed to make the wrong choice, or completely mess it up.

Honestly the worse performance I've ever seen.

No hope of winning these matches when he's literally stinking up the whole right side.........the amount of times he gets the ball high up, any one decent would at least get a couple of dangerous balls in it would go a long way.

Everyone in here does not agree on that. It's just that the 'upset side' yells loudest.
He is the best option we have this year. However, we definitely need a new RB this summer but for now, he is our best option. Its not like Dalot is on the bench so who would you rather use?

Except Young can’t fecking Cross.
Well he can occasionally. He looks ok against the lesser sides generally. Darmian would still look like the worst player on the pitch if we were playing against Doncaster Rovers.

Need to get rid fast.
Bombs forward or gets himself into a good position but can never beat his first man with his cross or he just blasts it over everybody.
He is also a liability in defense.

Editing my own posts.
Genuinely one of the worst individual performances in a big game I’ve ever seen. If he was a higher profile player it would’ve been tabloid headline worthy.

He's not the best option we have, Dalot is. And Dalot needs to be playing in his best position not as a LWB just to accommodate Young in the team.

Honestly, I don't think Laird or O'Connor will do worse than what this guy is doing.

You can't tell me you enjoy watching us play with Young in the side as he continously fecks up our attack and treats the ball as if it were a time bomb. Just look at the difference Semedo made for Barca and then look at what Captain Fantastic has been serving us routinely.

We're going nowhere as a club if this guy is continously picked.

And this is my last post of the day so nice day bro. :)

Why do we insist on keeping dross? I'm tired of this great servant crap. Barca had the courage to tell Xavi and Iniesta to move on. We just keep offering dross new contracts.

I feel bad for him as he's given us 100% effort in every match the last few years, and done really well in trying a difficult position.

When we play the best though it's clear our service from wide positions just isn't anywhere near good enough. He had a real stinker and broke every attack.

It's not really his fault though, the club should have upgraded him and got a proper RB years ago. This has been an issue ever since Fergie of us being way too sentimental, it seems our board/team are almost too friendly and can't do the right thing for the team.

I worry with the same situation of Lingard, he's clearly not good enough either but we probably won't replace him as he's everybody's best mate and is a local lad.

Slightly above average left winger captains Manchester United while playing right back, sounds like start of bad joke :(

He was never that good, even during his best here. When he was younger, he still put a shift in and did sometimes something useful. But nowadays, he cant even do that due to age and his football IQ/ability wasnt great to begin with. I never liked him due to not being good enough for us, that he is the captain is a joke

Was thinking of making a thread to ask, should we play Laird ahead of Young now? I don't see how he can be any worse, and would be good to use the tail end of the season to see how near he is to being able to step up.

I just can't stand seeing Young start again this season.

We signed him in 2011 for £18m and Arturo Vidal joined Juventus the same summer for €9m.
You look at the clubs Vidal has played for and Ashley Young is still here, putting useless crosses in after all this time. That Fulham game still haunts me. Surely they can see this, surely they saw the stats from last night, surely there isn't someone on that coaching staff who is saying Ashley just had an off night.

The pigeon that shat in his mouth has more right to the armband.

He was never good enough.
Put's a shift in, but that's far below the benchmark of what a Utd player (let alone captain) should do!

They phased them out well, Xavi spent his last season on the bench basically and Iniesta was subbed very often. They weren't "main players" for sure. Young is our captain and starts every game

Had a couple of good seasons under Fergie.

But even during the Moyes season, I used to groan when I saw his name in the starting line-up because of how shit he'd gotten.

That was five years ago. And he's still here.

And he's our captain.

That's my point. We run these players until they aren't fit for purpose.

He had only two seasons under Fergie and his second season was horrible. His first year was decent but that's all.

Young is absolute garbage and has been for a long time, but his last two matches have been the pits, even by his low standards. Even worse than Valencia, and that's saying something. It just shows how far we have plummeted as a club to have had these two as our captains. At least the likes of Dong Fangzhou, Bebe and Prunier were quickly dropped and shipped out, but what do we do now? Give the worst players in the club the captaincy and then somehow expect our players to look up to them and be inspired by them. As well as paying Sanchez more than anyone else. Absolute joke of running a club.

I'm all for hating on Young but it's on the club that we keep 1) extending him 2) selecting him, while not recruiting a top class rb for years. I mean the last WC rb we had was G. Nev and his prime was some 15+ years ago !
