Was excellent tonight, absolutely brilliant. I like Pique a lot and he still seems to care about United, glad he's gone on to have such a good career, hopefully not at our expense in the second leg though.

I have a hard time evaluating Pique. With the ball at his feet he's arguably one of the best ever to play the position. However his defensive capabilities are not great imo, especially if the defense is not compact. As soon as there a little space around him he becomes very vulnerable and has a hard time recovering because he is not very fast or physical if compared to VVD for example. But on the other side he is so comfortable on the ball it's like having an extra midfielder on the pitch.

He used his experience today and the nerves of our forwards made his job easier.

Agree. His ball skills and composure in possession are even more amplified up close in the flesh. He wouldn’t be a top player/defender or playing for Barca if he didn’t have those attributes.

Pique and Ramos passing level and skill on the ball are pretty similar. Ramos is more aggressive, but Pique has better positioning.

And thats not true this season, certainly not last night. Rashford kicked the ball a good 20 yards in front of himself and from a standing start Pique beat him to the ball. He isnt slow.

Pointing out the obvious but he's had an excellent career. Him, Fletcher and Rossi are the best players to have come through our youth system since Class of 92.

Edit: Pogba too.
Neither in terms of ability nor success. The careers Drinkwater, Evans, O'Shea, Brown, Heaton, Shawcross, Rashford, Welbeck etc. have all had better careers and Morrison had more talent.

Top performance yesterday and very respectful towards us in the media. Way more likeable character than the likes of Ramos and co.

O'Shea, Evans and Brown fair enough but Shawcross bloody hell
Shawcross has played 330 Premier League games, that's as many as Rossi has in total. Rossi has had 4 full seasons in his entire career, I don't think people realise how much injuries have limited his career.

That used to be the case. In the last couple years he's developed into a beast defensively

We all love United
I thought Rashford would outpaced him in that sprint when he took him one on one but Pique did very well to keep up and even got there first though he had a little headstart first

Remember when we sold him to bring through Johnny fecking Evans...
Yeah wasn’t long after that we sold Ronaldo to make room for Valencia and then pressured Fergie to quit so we could get Moyes in.
Sad times. Like when we told Pogba to get lost so that he didn't ruin Scholes' retirement pla........ow shit that happened

Fair enough, my original post was meant to reflect the quality of player we've produced rather than their career success. Rossi was gaining a lot of international recognition and kicking on for the national team at one point. I think that's a testament to his quality, which injuries held back massively.

Much prefer him to Ramos.

How many times has he been sent off in his career out of interest?

9 red cards in his club career, not sure about internationals. He's got a fair way to go to catch the red card receiving prowess of Sergio Ramos.

For me Rossi and Pogba are the most talented we have produced since 92. I have never been more excited about a prospect in our youths as I was for Rossi

He is obviously a bit slow, but his positioning corrects it in 99% of the situations. With the ball is top class, the same with the header and in general everything related to tactics. All this compensates his speed limitation that was better hidden next to Puyol than Lenglet, who is maybe too similar to Piqué, even it lacks the "leadership" that the catalan has.

Same. I wanted to get Rossi 42 on my shirt that year but held off because I thought he'd likely switch numbers. Saw a guy once at OT with it though, what a hipster.

Emergency transfer coming up.
Sucks for Pique though, haven’t seen it but heard it was a bad injury
