My stream wasn't the greatest, but I saw him being quite proactive defensively. Won a few tackles and in particular 1 excellent interception and clearance, running halfway down the pitch for it and then shepherding it out.
He was very commited defensively. In this formation with Mata, Martial, Lingard and Lukaku in the pitch the midfield consists of Fred-Pogba actually. Both had to run as headless chickens 90 minutes. Should never play this way again.

He was the best player on the field once again. As far as him slowing down the game at times, he went on a little run with three players around him and eventually lost the ball but look at the players around him, between Lingard, Martial, and Lukaku there was absolutely no movement whatsoever.

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to play with those three when they're in that kind of form.

Bang average performance, penalties aside. So bored of watching him slow everything down, time and time again. Non existent defensively too. As usual.
2 tackles won. Same as Fred.
1 interception. Fred had none.
2 clearances. Again, Fred had none.

Not only did he score and make some brilliant passes, he did the most defensive work in midfield, too. Absolutely won us the game today.

He really has to do wonders in order to get some praise.

Obviously didn't watch properly so, he was very good today. Worked hard, very good defensive input and of course the 2 penalties.

Scores two vital penalties, good through balls, did put in a shift defensively.
Yet people get angry when movement breaks down infront of him and he dallies on the ball.
People have made their minds up about Pogba, he had a good game when the team was poor. But you go looking for the negatives yet again.

Never do I see him hanging on to the ball when someone ahead of him makes a good run, then he is quick to release it and the only one in this team who can execute those passes.

A team so lacking in creativity, poise on the ball, has a fanbase that rates creativity as a luxury item.
He has his flaws, but he's one of the few who is a pleasure to watch on a quite regular basis.

Only him and Fred played well. Dude even dropped between the CB's and stuff
I'm liking this new midfield partnership. Their chemistry needs some more work considering they only played like 5 games together the whole year but the lack of movement/quality from attack is nonexistent so it's left to them for the heavy work.

I don't know why some on here are criticizing Pogba today. He played in a 2-man midfield and worked hard in defense. He took 2 good penalties. He was better than atleast half of our team. The real blame should be on the front 4 for being absolutely clueless in front of goal and repeatedly losing the ball.

I thought he was our best performer by a distance. Some decent defending too, though perhaps not as positionally discipline as you might have hoped.

He had a good game today. I think he can do better though, takes too much time to transition from defense to attack, but in his defense there was not much movement upfront until Rashford came on!

MOTM again and yet another game he's won for us, god knows where we'd be this season without Pogba. A welcome return to form today.

Have to admit him only scoring 6 or 7 goals in open play this season is quite poor.

 Nope.

He wasn’t poor but he was certainly average. I mean he’s still our most talented player by a country mile, so I have high expectations. I’m just so sick of his constant dilly dallying on the ball. Does my head in.
It might be unpopular but I'm going to agree with this.

I don't think Pogba was that great today, although I respect the bottle he showed to score the two penalties. He was better than he was midweek but that's not saying much.

In the main West Ham dominated midfield. That's the same West Ham who've been slapped by Everton and Chelsea recently, two sides we play in the next month.

Pogba held the ball needlessly more than once today, ran down several blind alleys and was significantly below the level he showed away at Chelsea in the FA Cup say.

IMO Pogba hasn't played at close to his top level since he came back into the team. A lot of what we've seen recently has been reminiscent of his early season showings when he was at loggerheads with Mourinho. Has the Madrid talk turned his head? God knows. All I know is the Pogba who walked all over Bournemouth etc is not the Pogba we're seeing now.

Wasn't amazing but scored two vital goals. Hopefully he can return to his best soon. He was in a rut starting with that PSG game.

was not terrible but was not great either.

Like others have said, too much dilly dallying with the ball. Not enough work ethic either. I think because of his height he has poor acceleration off the mark.

Took his penalties good though.

there are no central midfielders outscoring him. without pens he still has 7 goals and 11 assists.

poor? this place has completely jumped the shark, and lost all sense of reality

I thought he was dreadful off the ball. Look at his lack of effort to track back, this is in a 2 man midfield with poor Fred getting swamped. Open your eyes people, that was not a good or acceptable display.

You are correct. I've felt this way about him ever since he joined, he's improved at it this season but it's still relatively easy to get by him.
This is going to sound weird but hear me out:

We all hope that by playing more robust midfielders behind Pogba that it frees him to move forward but is that really going to get the best out of us long term? Pogba has an average midfielders creativity and won't create enough chances playing further forward for the rest of the team. Is Pogba as good as De bryune, Silva or Eriksen?

In my opinion, we need to play him like he does for France. Play him deep as possible and stop making him play all over the pitch as some creative CM. Put an AM in front of him and make Pogba retain his position and focus on doing a midfielders work and not an attackers.

Played very well today in a deeper position. He's a very brave player and is always looking to get on the ball. Great bottle shown for the pen too. Hopefully we can upgrade on the likes of Lingard and Mata and we'll see a even better Pogba who will be lethal with some quality movement upfront..

Really happy with his display today, our only world class player..

literally did more work than anyone in midfield. 12 ball recoveries and:

To be honest I agree and in my opinion he was only the best of a bad bunch. In fact I don't think that a single of our midfielders has deserved praises in the last 40 days.

C'mon guys! That was a really poor performance. But Fred, Pogba and DDG were the best on the pitch for us IMO.

Feel for him. So many times he watches his teammates struggle to play out from the back, so comes deep to get the ball and then faces no movement in front of him. On multiple occasions he peeled off his marker and looked up to hit a pass into the wide channels and nobody was making a run. It’s so evident when watching live that he isn’t getting much support. Only really with Zlatan did he have a really clear understanding with a forward at the club.

He showed his leadership second half after converting his second penalty, when he called the team together for a huddle to encourage them to focus and see the game out.

He's better than them while being younger, playing in a weaker team and mainly in a midfield 2.

When he'll be playing for a top team next summer, the comparaison between Pogba and these players will stop as it was in his Juventus days.

Best midfielder in the world. He has more creativity than them while being stronger physically and has the flair that 99% of the players in this generation lack.

That's why even if in England he became the scapgoat, he's untouchable for the best NT in the world and the biggest clubs in the world are after him when they think about a midfielder :)

Dont need stats to see who the better team was. As on Wednesday, we were utterly dominated yet again. Disgusting "performances". Pogba was marginally better but he hasnt shown the same willingness since the Liverpool game.

Still more than the Liverpool/City midfielders. How poor must they be?
Goal scoring and creating is the last problem of PP.

He worked hard, did plenty of defensive and attacking contributions and more importantly
Held his nerve under real pressure to win us the game.

He and Fred did very well together I thought, if they weren’t left 3v2 most of the game we’d have controlled the match much better.

Lingard/mata deserve all the criticism today.

Nobody can moan he was lazy today.

The Pogba agenda is very weird, he was good defensively in the first half in particular, worked hard and took two pressure penalties, as for people talking him delaying on the ball, a big reason for that is our movement up top is so poor.

I thought he had a good game. With the 3 wasteful players in front of him, it was tough to get the ball moving around.
Maybe I am missing something, but 2 goals usually means you can overlook some negatives right? He was not perfect but worked hard and won us the game, with the way we were playing we needed penalties to score and he did.

He was alright. 2nd pen was probably the best he's ever taken. Glad he stopped doing that run-up of his.

It's just hard to heap praise on anyone after that awful collective performance by the team.

100%. Whenever somebody makes a good forward run he ALWAYS plays it when possible. I just don’t understand why people hate our players so much? It’s baffling.

there’s a bunch of people you can criticise first before even looking at pogba. My god this thread would have been on fire if he missed one of those pens.

He was playing deeper in a double pivot with Fred, and he played well and converted two clucth penalties. But you just know the agendas will be screaming that he didn't assist or score from open play.
