You're literally plucking this from thin air though
The entire summer pretty much every story involving an Alderweireld move mentioned that Levy wanted Martial to go the other way. Why would that have changed?

It's a non starter anyway. There's no reason Eriksen would choose you over Madrid, and very unlikely that under any circumstances Levy would sell one of our best players to a top 4 rival. The source in the OP is also .. the mirror.

Crazy to think that he’s only on £80.000 p/w. I mean with what some of the other top talents in the league are making.

Eriksen, along with Coutinho, is my ultimate muppet signing. Hope to feck you don’t get him.

Quite simply we're going to have to start abandoning our wage structure over the next decade or so if we really want to make that step up as a club.

It's functioned well thus far but it's the main thing holding us back, we're a CL club who can't attract CL level talent because of the wages we offer. And obviously you're going to get players like Eriksen leaving because he could easily triple his wages elsewhere.

Then you won't be getting Eriksen.

Levy made it clear with the Alderweireld deal, we want Martial if we're dealing with United. If you want to take one of our best talents, we want one of yours.

Do Spurs fans actually read their posts when they type them. Most of you guys have your heads so far up your backside that everything you write is shite. I mean this thread is a possible link with Eriksen, yet you post like you're Levy himself! You've got no idea, but you put your opinions across as facts. It's amazing how often you guys do that

Didn't the story turn out to be bullshit and we didn't even place a bid?
The whole not better than Jones thing.
Eriksen holds the cards. Letting Toby sit it out for 25m is one thing but this is a hundred million asset.
We were told you would sell Toby abroad last season rather than sell Him to us, now we're favourites to sign him in the summer.
If Eriksen wants to come then we'll get him one way or another. Providing this is true.

Would be amazing if we got him, and I think it's possible because of the wage situation. But we'll see.

Probably the most creative CM in the league. It’s not gonna happen though for lots of reasons.

Spurs/Levy wouldn’t sell to us, the player would more likely prefer to move elsewhere and with us having multiple positions that need strengthening this summer spending a huge chunk of the budget on a CM is probably not the best idea.

United fans consistently make big claims when it comes to getting our players/manager and have done for years now, and very, very rarely do those claims come to any kind of fruition.

'We can take Poch, Kane and Eriksen if we want' .. can you though? Do they really want to come that badly?

I'm not Levy himself, but I have been a fan of the club for the entirety of his reign as chairman, and as such I think most Spurs fans are aware of how he operates by now. He's not about to throw one of our best players United's way unless there is absolutely no alternative, which there isn't in this case. I think we've made it pretty clear that we have interest in Martial and it's a natural conclusion that if Eriksen really was interested, we would look to exploit that and bring Martial here.

If Eriksen wanted to only go to United and wouldn't consider going elsewhere then sure. But that's just not going to be the case.

But why would he? Why would his dream move be to a club who are potentially not even in Europe next season and are probably starting another rebuild?

You could give him massive wages, but so could other clubs in healthier sporting positions on the continent. This isn't me having a dig at United, there's just nothing to suggest Eriksen wants to go to you, the decent links have all pretty much been to Madrid.

Yeah. Eriksen might be loyal, but like you say if he’s offered three times as much in another club, I doubt he’ll stay loyal, like any other player really. Your increased revenue should come in handy.

Of course there’s also the possibillity that it isn’t so much about money as it is about wanting to win something.

It's probably both. There's no way he's happy sitting on 80k a week when he knows he could be earning much more elsewhere, but also he's 27 now and will want to win trophies. He's at an age where really he needs to be at a club who are ready to compete for trophies right now.

Theres no doubt United fans who write that sort of stuff, but whats that got anything to do with what you write?

Regardless, I agree with your overall point that most likely Spurs won't sell to us and if they did it would be a significant fee/player your way. But theres also a possibility that Eriksen, like Alderweireld, may just sit and wait out his contract. Will Levy refuse £60-70 million and risk losing Eriksen for nothing if he rather go somewhere specific? I think the this is a different situation to Alderweireld and there are more possibilities.

Also most likely if a swap deal was to happen, I don't think United would offer Martial + cash for Eriksen mainly because he'll be off for free in a year! Even though I consider Martial to be awful, and Eriksen to be one of the best in the PL

Because he can both get increased wages and go to clubs with better players who are more likely to compete for trophies in the future?

The only club I think would really interest him in England is City, but they don't want or need him.

He is not going to push hard for a move specifically to United when there is clearly interest from top clubs abroad.
I don't think he will either. I just find it strange that you think Spurs can resist all offers from domestic rivals when the player holds all the cards.

If Eriksen is determined to leave and Real Madrid don't come in with an offer, what's to stop him from leaving for a domestic rival?

We can't, but I don't think that is the case with this player.

I already said that in some cases (Walker) we are forced to sell domestically due to lack of interest elsewhere. But I'd be absolutely shocked if at least one elite European club wasn't interested in his services.

I don't see any reason that he'd specifically want to go to United. If that was the case then yes, we would be in a tricky situation, but I've seen nothing (apart from a mirror article) which suggests that this is the case and that he would be prepared to wait out his contract for you rather than move abroad.

The idea that Eriksen would be so set on a move to United (in your current state) that he would be prepared to wait out his contract strikes me as a bit odd. He's a world class attacking midfielder in his prime, there will be competition for his signature and I'd be surprised if United were top of his list, again particularly if you don't make CL this season.

BTEC Pogba. Basically Pogba without the flair and the physical aspect.

If Paul goes to Real, I can see him come here and struggle big time if we don't make a great summer...

You're passing opinion around as fact here. What im saying that if this story is true then all of your points are moot. He wants to come to Utd for whatever reason and its what happens from there that's the talking point.
Personally I think Madrid are in bluff mode and they're not going to spend the money that they pretend to so what realistic option is there for him abroad?
Erikaen might be sold on a he and Pogba midfield with Sancho out right and Toby behind him.
Who knows? Maybe he wants the status and to stay in England. Maybe he wants the profile of helping United back to the top.
All i know is if he valued success as much as you say then he wouldn't have stayed at Spurs for so long.

I'd love him here, one of my top muppet transfer targets for the summer, but realistically it's always hard dealing with Levy, although I do think Real's interest might well be limited if they get Hazard done.

You think he can play alongside Pogba in midfield? I'm trying to think of a third midfielder who would balance that up and I can't quite picture it.

If you want us to consider selling you one of our best players (and one of the best players in the league) then we will want to get a top talent back.
Go find one in Ajax, they got plenty. We are doing a favour for you guys so he doesn’t get away for free. ;)

I'd play him at the tip of the diamond personally, I don't think the 4-3-3 is the way to go with the strikers we have. For him and Pogba to work in a midfieid 3 we'd have to get a monster holder like Rodri or Casemiro.

He would be excellent in a 3 with Pogba and a top class destroyer behind them, like Thomas.

I think he can play in midfield 3 with our current players. Him Fred & Pogba. Eriksen is a hard working player who also willing to help in defending. If in away big game we want to throw McT to offer more balanced, we can always use him on the right in the same role as Lingard which he had done it last season. Signing Eriksen means we don’t need to rely on Pogba alone as our creative play anymore.

Eriksen is a hard worker but I still think any midfield combination with Pogba in it needs more steel than Fred and Eriksen would offer, plus I am not sold on Fred as an automatic starter for us as the holder or in any role, he's had 3 or 4 good games now but not to the point where I'd make him a first choice cert personally.

I just hope Fred can be a good back up player at the very least. Strength in depth is a issue for me..

I definitely think he's showing he can be that, McTominay also, but this knee jerk response that now has them as the answer to our midfield issues is overdoing it IMO.

If he wants to join us, we will get him this year or for free next year. But problem is , I don't think he would be interested and he would rather goto Real or Barca who will offer similar wages.

Will go to Madrid as a replacement for Modric or Barca as a replacement for Coutinho. Win trophies, achieve CL glory/finals etc.

Very doubtful he is coming here or staying at Spurs. Would have signed a long term contract like everyone else if he was on board with "the project" at Spurs. And as far as CL glory is concerned we have a bit of work to do on that front.

I’ve always thought he looks great as a right winger. In fact, his numbers as a right winger is better than any other position on the field (xg90, xga90, keypasses 90, xgbuildup90 is significantly better as a right winger). Would love him here, but not likely at all.

Reckon the only way Eriksen will get a Contract with Real,Barcelona or Juventus is to let his contract run out!
Who will pay 70-100 M for a player with 1 year left besides us? Will be very interesting to see the transferfees for Eriksen and Hazard.
26 year old courtois was fetched to Real for only 35M

We bid more than Real for Bale but he still went to Madrid. Levy will not sell Eriksen to us, it would be stupid of him to do so.
We should have bought him when he was leaving Ajax for 12M but we dropped the ball big time.
There was ronaldo modric ramos benzema factor in pulling bale to Madrid. These circumstances are different.

It's very wise to go big on him and convince him to make a move, giving without a serious fight would be a blunder.

If we do bring him in, it's likely as a RCM with Pogba as a LCM. So, imo we'll also need a midfield destroyer in CDM to cover for the other two.

I don't think it will happen. He will probably leave for free next season to Real Madrid. However, you never know in football, we have a few players we could eventually put in a deal and we have money. Levy would be stupid not to think about a 75m offer for a player with only 1 year left on his contract. If there's any chance we can get him I think we should not hesitate. In front of a holding midfielder and along with Pogba he would be perfect.
