If the people who pick the team, can't see how out of his depth he is, then Im calling them out. We're playing almost all the time with ten men!

Unfortunately as bad as he was yesterday we’ve about 6/7 players who need to leave before he does.

He shouldn't be a starter. At truly top clubs Lingard is like Sergi roberto and the likes. An academy product that comes in when you need to rest your top players and he happily does that for his career. Ideally he'd be coming into a team where he was surrounded by players that carry the team and he's just there to fill a role. Its really on us and how far we have fallen that we are relying on a player like Lingard as a first team player
Exactly. Problem is we seem to have a first team full of Sergi Roberto's and therefore even players who would be good squad players in other circumstances, are being thrust into first team status and being judged according to that standard.

Ole needs to work out which one's he can do without, which ones to keep and demote to squad status and bring in first team quality.

I think Lingard has shown enough about him to be a useful squad player but his game time needs to be drastically reduced if we are going to get somewhere.

Massively overrated. Like a poor man's Park... And I was never a lover of Park in terms of footballing ability.
Surely Man Utd should have players that can "put in a shift" and "get about a bit" and "Harry opposition" but also have skill and class on the ball?!
Lingard typifies the "grafts a lot" excuse that's mooted these days - Young being another living on this mindsets coat tails. These lads play for Man Utd... A shift should be the minimum. They should be running their nuts off every single minute of every game.

His last 2 or 3 months are down there with the absolute worst I've seen from a Utd first team player.

He's contributing absolutely nothing.

Dont drag Park to the mud with this turd. Maybe like Jones, he got hanging around in United because supposedly Fergie once said he is a late bloomer. How late i dont know. Maybe its too late to realised then.

But he gets a completely free pass from many...sure he's still a young lad and to develop!

For me one of the worst outfield players to play so consistently for United in the history of the club.

The moment yesterday where he could easily have taken an open shot with his left foot close to goal but decided to turn back on his right with defenders already crowded in that space...

Let's hope we don't see him anywhere near the first team next season

Don't forget he's on England NT also. That's like the gold standard for some to rate players.
So did Cleverly while he was at Utd. I'll echo what other people have been saying, he truly is the worst player I've seen to get a consistent run at Utd.

Absolute fecking disgrace lately. Worst thing is, even his famous 'running' seems to of toned down. Watch his early games for us and how much he ran around compared to now. He has even got complacent with that and that was the one thing he done well.

Sums up the complete mediocrity our squad has now become.

Lingard is 26 years old, he is not a kid.

15/16 season 19(6) average rating = 6.7.
16/17 season 18(7) average rating = 6.7.
17/18 season 20(13) average rating = 6.8.
18/19 season 17(8) average rating = 6.6.

Lingard is not good enough for Manchester United and is not going to improve. He is a 6/10 player. If we want to build a strong team we need a team of 7/10s with a few 8/10s thrown into the mix. At present we have only 1 player that is capable of being 8/10 over a season, Pogba.

And ironically, Pogba gets the most abuse!

Like Rashford, Martial Herrera and Matic that injury against PSG/Liverpool has completely finished him for this season, utterly shocking in these last few games

I liked Lingard when he came through and thought he would go on to improve and become a handful little player, but over the last four years it hasn't happened. And to top it off he doesnt have a case of mistreatment and lack of game as all the mangers since van gaal have played him fairly constantly. Sad to say but he's not United quality, definitely should not be starting games.

Need to either get rid this summer or put him on the bench and never as a starter. One of the most useless forward I’ve seen in recent times at Manchester United who always gets the benefit of the doubt because he’s homegrown or people think he’s still a kid.
Sadly he has no value due to the £110k/week wages. Any club interested in him couldn’t get close to those wages. So we’re stuck with him.

He was a shambles yesterday.

I was saying to a mate that I was concerned about his influence on Rashford as he’s the squads “class clown” and even though he has had some big performances for us in recent years I just don’t see him ever being better than bang average.

It's a strange thing with Lingard you know. I was watching him yesterday in particular whilst at the match, and it's almost like he is somebody who has just ran onto the pitch, like a fan who somehow managed to get hold of an official kit and blended in with the team.

I seriously doubt he would get into most premiership teams the way he is playing. He is still living off that good patch of form he had last year, and a few decent games for England.

The thing is, you want him to succeed and do well, but his form this season has been shocking since December, and if he hadn't come through the academy, he wouldn't be anywhere near this team, and whilst we continue to play players of his quality, we won't get anywhere near to a premiership trophy either.

OGS needs to stop with the favourtism, Mourinho did it with Lukaku, and it is almost like playing with 10 men. X that by the fact that we are struggling anyway, and it is easy to see why we are not progressing as we could be.

Lingard is a nothing player and not even fit to be a squad player at United. I've never seen an inconsistent player like him who is supposed to be in his peak at 27yrs.

He looks good in 1 or 2 games and goes missing for 20. I can't help but think that if he wasn't English or from the academy he would have been sold a long time ago.

We need to get rid of him. Lazini and Anderson are far better players but are at West Ham so why should Lingard still be here at United? Is mediocrity our new "standard"?

By the looks of it, yes. We have many many more players at Lingards level than we do at Even Rashford and Martial level (and those two are squad level for United not First XI).

Agreed, especially the last part of your post.

Martial (as much as I like him) and Rashford should be options off our bench and not automatic starters. You have a peek at City's squad and you see the huge difference in quality.

Any player on a City bench is as good as the starting player hence competition is keen and rife because no one's position is guaranteed. But here at United, we have Ole's favorites "Rashy" and Lingard ( and Young) who can do no wrong and are almost automatic starters who even when are having bad games are still left on.

Are we serious as a club at all?

Lingard has to be one of the luckiest players to have ever to be stealing a living at United.

He has so many things going for him.

(1) If you dont know his age you will think that he's in his early 20s , hence overlook his inconsistency(or lack of football ability).

(2) For some bizarre reasons, most of us fans and the media will focus on the coaches and some better performers like Pogba while Lingard goes unnoticed when the team is not performing well.

(3) He plays way more than he should be playing for United because the three coaches play him more than necessary.

One of the positives of Ole's appointment is that players like Lingard, Young, Jones ans Smalling have no place to hide, unlike during Mourinho's and LVG's eras.

What is worrying though is that Ole seems to have a blind spot for Lingard just like Mou for Lukaku and LVG for Wayne.

Ole has more explanation to give for allowing Lingard to finish the game than the actual performance.

I agree with this. Presumably that means the likes of Pogba and Martial should also be looking forward to some extended bench time.

Or are we applying a bit of a double standard here (where 'talented' players are allowed to coast, and those with less ability are vilified however hard they work)?

Before he was injured, Lingard was one of our better performers and one of the most important players in Ole's team. Since returning from injury he has struggled for form, and was poor against West Ham (along with plenty of others).

He hasn’t been one of our better performance’s since December 2017 in that purple patch of 5 games. Just look at his stats, if you can’t just watch what he does (or doesn’t) on the pitch.

He has poor passing ability (passes the ball behind his team mate or to the opposition/backwards or sideways), has no composure in front of goal (especially when he has time) goes missing for large spells of a games (where you genuinely forget he’s playing), is weak and gets knocked off the ball, has very little pace and often misses the obvious ball plus he acts like a super star when off the pitch.

I’ve had enough. Please get shut in the summer.

When did he ever really get started this season? 4 goals and 2 assists in the premier league? He isn't good enough and has never been good enough to be a starter at this club.
He is a useful squad player and even at times thats pushing it.

He got two goals and an assist against an awful Cardiff in December; since then, in four months, he's recorded one goal and one assist. And the assist was a two yard pass to Pogba who scored from range.

Completely mediocre player.

Enough for some to call him one of Ole’s top performers. Mad.

Oh come on with this crap. He had a good game against Cardiff where we scored 5 goals and he had plenty of shit games before his injury as well. We were winning though and many gave him a pass.

We have more serious problems than Lingard, atleast he didn't cost us much as he is our academy product

At his top of the game he could just be a squad player and it's managers wish to keep or replace him but we can't address every frekking wrong thing with our team in one window !!! Patience guys ! Takes 2/3 transfer windows to clear so many duds

Our first choice XI, while we were playing our best football of the season (perhaps our only spell of good football), included Lingard. His run of games under Ole before his injury, starting with Cardiff and ending with Leicester were generally decent (the Sky website was giving him an average rating of around 7 through that period). It wasn't just Cardiff - I recall, for example, that he had good games against Tottenham and Arsenal away as well.

I agree that he hasn't played well lately, and I have no issues with him spending some time on the sidelines if someone else comes into the side and makes it better. Unfortunately I could make the same observation about any number of our players.

What is irritating is this nonsense where people make excuses for supposedly 'great' players when they put in half-arsed performances (it's the managers fault, the people around him aren't good enough, other players aren't making the right runs...blah-de-blah-de-blah), whilst consistently criticising players who generally do put a shift in but are seen as 'average' (presumably this means their scores on Football Manager just don't stack up). That's really the point I was making.

We played our best football mainly due to much better players around him playing as they should, and Lingard was a passenger while having bang average games in that period, and people gave him a free pass. He was good against Spurs as far as I remember but he had lots of poor games as well. I mentioned that on here and as you imagined it was "hating".

No excuses should be made for no one. Martial has had a disruptive period with injuries as well, and he is getting destroyed on here, even though we know how good is one of them compared to the other.

He also is fortunate that he gets a very easy ride from the press aswell for some reason, whether it's because he is English and plays for the NT I don't know. MEN even gave him a 5 out of 10 for Saturday

If i dont notice a player at all during a match or he only plays for 5/10 minutes and doesnt do anything special in those minutes i also give a 5 or 6. Nobody even noticed Lingard playing so i guess they just put a 5 on him....

Not noticing a attacking Manchester United player who played 90 minutes is pretty bad.. i gave him a 3 and thought that was generous.

I thought Lingard could be a decent squad player for when Manchester United starts to compete for big things again but i am questioning that. He just really isnt good at any aspect of football.. even his so called "great of the ball runs" arent that great.

I think he's a decent 10 but should not be played wide and deeper in the midfield. Currently Pogba is our advanced midfielder so Lingard and Mata often fight over the same RW slot that neither actually want.

Why is he a decent number 10? Isn’t that role to create? How many chances can he create? He struggles to pass forward.

Yh but you're judging him on his stats playing in a position that doesn't suit him. I don't think he's a top player but I think he'd be a decent 10 - issue is we have better players for that role already
