one of the world's top 3 biggest clubs?
how long are we gonna keep claiming that? genuinely just asking, surely that isn't a static/permanent label, no? yes, we generate money and have a lot of exposure, but sporting wise we have been coming up short for over half a decade now.

Out of interest, if we are playing 4-3-3 and Pogba is still here.......where does Eriksen play?

Tbh I think these days we overestimate United's allure. Even under Ferguson we sometime a hard time attracting the highest quality. We aren't top dogs anymore so things are even harder

We'd need a CDM like Kante for that to work, Pogba and Eriksen both in CM is way too unbalanced.
Eriksen works his bollocks off and Spurs do well without a proper CDM. Kante actually plays more box to box than as a CDM, he had Drinkwater and Matic as the CDM when he was at his best.

I think we need a CDM either way. Someone more mobile than Matic that can shield the defence and get the ball forward quicker.

We'll "claim" it as long as it's true, which it currently is. We've been shit on the field, yes, for 6 years, but still been more relevant and more well supported than most clubs in the world.

I'm baffled how deluded some people are on here in regards to our pull and standing in 2019.
I really don't get why so many United 'fans' are so quick to make out, all of a sudden, we are not a big draw for players! We are still one of the three most famous clubs in the world, have global appeal like no other and financial power that others can only dream of!

The big change is financially other clubs are able to tell us to feck off when we come calling! In the 90's/ early thousands the likes of Kane would have bitten their hand off to move to us as we could offer wages etc Spurs couldn't dream of offering! They also would have needed the transfer fee! Now they don't and the players get comfortably recompensed so have no need to demand a transfer away!

relevant? certainly not sporting wise, and not sure being "supported" is what constitutes an elite club, especially top 3. our allure isn't particularly unique, many clubs can offer/match financial incentives for players these days, as well as provide a good enough platform for exposure.

This is simply untrue. We pay the third highest wages in world football. We have the second most revenue in the world. We finished second in the Premier League last season. We're in the final 8 in Europe in one of our most dreadful seasons of the past 30 years. We are the most reported and consumed club in the UK.

For someone to claim that it's an indifferent choice between West Ham, us, or even Arsenal is frankly bizarre. Even Dortmund... How relevant are they? They'll finish second this season and went out in the final 16 in Europe.

our wage bill is consistently used as a bullet point as to how we have been mismanaged, we pay squad players a lot more than majority of clubs would, but it does not mean other clubs cannot match our wage offers for first teamers/sought out players.

we finished 2nd last season but 19 points off the leaders, and it was our only top 3 finish in the last 5 years (6 if you include current season), hardly the output of a competitive club, and yes we are in the final 8 in europe after what many hailed a "miracle" against PSG, and now a loss at home in which we did not register a single shot on target is labeled a decent to good performance, i think that's an indictment of how relevant we are sporting wise.

i'm not contesting United's popularity, but that's hardly all that constitutes a top 3 club, especially when there are others that can offer similar exposure even if not to the exact same extent.

anyway, i was just trying to ascertain how long people are gonna run with that "we are a top 3 club" thing when sporting results have not exactly aligned with that notion for a while. i now get that you truly believe we are, and i respect that. fair enough.

The biggest issue for us when attracting players is that we are perceived as a club not in it for the throphies. Some clubs publicy states that we are going to fight for this or that, or within 3 years win the CL. Have our owners ever made such statements? Players valuing chances of winning PL/CL or other big thophies more than money will stay well clear of our club.

Lingard's spot.
Alongside him or in place of him. Make Pogba earn his place like it should be.
I like Eriksen, even though I dont think he is world class like most, but these responses are pretty much why I wouldnt sign him. He isnt a right winger as neither are Mata, Kagawa and several other names we have tried to put in that spot, we need a proper wide player in my opinion.
Also in a 4-3-3 at least Pogba and Eriksen, just opinion but dont see how that works. Personally I think both are inconsistent, but playing well, Pogba is the better player.
For me Eriksen would very much be a Mata, Kagawa signing....a really good, techincal player that would cost a fair bit of money and maybe give us more problems than solutions

Not sure what not being a RW has to do with anything. Btw neither is Lingard. Eriksen is a 10/8 and we should sign him to play those positions as well as sign a RW

So Timo Werner, Jovic and Icardi all available this summer. Still doubt we will buy a striker this summer but Werner or Jovic would be nice. Only issue is what we do with our other forwards. I assume it would be the end of Lukaku, maybe Martial too. I doubt it would have a massive effect on our team either, unless we sort out the midfield and wings.
Personally I wwould be happy to sign Mr Magoo if it meant the end of Lukaku. Interesting you say the end of Martial too....why I would consider selling him. He is playing on the left so signing a striker shouldnt make any difference.....but he is a striker for me and that is where he should be playing. If we are not playing him there, which is obviously the case and he is worth £60-70m possibly, would not selling him be such a bad idea? I think he is a really good player and personally I would rather see him up front and Rashford on the left, think both would be far more effective....but as things are £140-150m for the pair, there are better options up front for sure and also on the left than Martial.....the top ones both pretty much fee wise obtainable just from those fees

Sorry that is the exact point I was trying to make...Lingard isnt a right winger I agree, so why replace him with another player that also isnt a right winger. And if he is a number 10, he is only really of use if we play a diamond formation which personally I dont like apart from the big games when we are being more defensive...again I say another Mata, Kagawa.
The only way I see him as the right signing is if it is to replace Pogba, if Pogba wants to go. I would rather keep Pogba and find the right partner for him, again opinion but I dont think Eriksen is that number 8 to partner Pogba

Its mental that Pogba is the only creative player in the middle of our pitch. But ok.

Sign him and play him in the middle with Pogba. Its very simple and sign a RW and a DM that can cope.

We have lacked creativity from the middle of the pitch for years yet people still don't want to sign creative players who play in the middle because of Pogba.

If we have to push Eriksen to play as a 10 in the bigger games then fine. But this is a quality player who brings something we are missing from our team. Ability to control tempo and dictate play, something which btw Pogba cannot do as well as ability to pick creative passes. This means teams cant just mark Pogba out of the game and kill our attack instantly.

If not Eriksen I think Isco would be available for a similar price and be a lot more attainable. He can play CM with Pogba I think.

I don't want that tunnel vision ball hogging Isco here in our team. His movement is terrible too. I would even prefer to have the ageing Modric for 1 year than have Isco here.

I hear that.

Barella has long been my number 1 choice anyway, think he’s what we need in there. Combination of energy and quality.

Do you think Barella could have a similar effect to Bernardo Silva at City?

Personally no. Bernardo Silva is am elite level player and was before he went to City.

Barella could develop but he has some way to go to match Bernado

Not really. He’d be like Herrera with greater quality on the ball. More b2b.
I'll be gutted if we don't go for Barella, think he's tailor made for the PL, hes got that aggression in his play that would be just what we need in midfield. Him and Bruno Fernandes would be my picks for midfield, they'd elevate us to a new level most definitely.

@Cassidy @Rozay Thanks for the feedback fellas. He definitely is a very talented player that would be a fantastic addition to the team. Has technical qualities on the ball that definitely would improve us over Herrera and reads the game very well without the ball. If reports are to be believed, then he wouldn't cost a crazy fee either.

I don't disagree with a lot of your points. I don't necessarily think we're a top 3 club in terms of "top of mind superstar" player pull at the moment (largely a result of our mismanagement) but I also think people forget how big we truly are. Being compared to West Ham FFS...

A lot of our competitive issues stem from Woodward. We need a DoF with a football vision so that we can put our spending power to good use, and sell players on a vision rather than Woodward's Disneyland bollocks. It's worked well for other clubs.
