Got a bad feeling this is the weekend where the title race will take a massive twist in favour of Liverpool.

If that happens. Liverpool will win their 4 remaining fixtures and win the fecking title.

On the other hand. If City win their next 4 league games. Title is staying in Manchester.

Relax. City will beat Palace. Palace got themselves 39 points. No dog in the fight.

If we go and try and actually play football at Anfield I think it'll be very hard to get anything.

Hopefully Sarri will have learnt from the 6 -0 City away game and we'll setup like the City EFL final game instead. Hazard false 9, and the wide forwards playing very deep like extra midfielders. Play on the counter and try to frustrate Liverpool.

Since the 6-0 thrashing at City, Sarri has definetly learnt to play a more defensive game. There is no way he's attacking at Anfield.
He should be able to make 5 or 6 changes from Thursday as well.

There is one main way of getting at Liverpool and it's waiting for TAA and Robertson being out of position. And they do get caught out 3 or 4 times a game. The secret is to retain enough energy to make use of these short windows. Also means Hudson and Hazard have to stay switched on for a full 86 minutes of the game when sneaky passes are made past them by Hendo, Firmino, etc. Not something that is natural to them (as it expends their energy needed up front as mentioned above).

Both managers will be aware of these facts.

Why not play Giroud? He seems to have Liverpool's and Van Dijk's number

Cardiff beat Brighton and then draw with Liverpool in a crystanbul scenario all over again :wenger: If City win their next two league games and crash out of the CL I think they will win the league. I'm just not sure where Liverpool will drop points if City do.

Newcastle are a bastard to play against. So anti-football. Could be tricky for Liverpool but Rafa will probably lie down now they're safe. Wolves' are good vs the top teams too.

United better lie down to City. I'm a neutral who despises City as one of the teams who signify everything wrong with the modern game but boy I hope they win it. Sky have been unbearable and I'd love for City to shut them up. Carragher literally spent the last 20 minutes of today's game going over the same tired point about momentum, psychological advantages and Liverpool winning their last 3 games. I think he felt like if he said it enough it would all be true. It's like everyone has forgotten that it's entirely in City's hands and there's literally feck all Liverpool can do to change that.

Rafa already threw a game against them this season. He will do everything to help them win.

It's a good point about Carragher. He seems to think that if Liverpool keep wining they will eventually go above City, but doesn't mention that it's in City's hands. Maybe because he's not been in a title race in his life as a player so doesn't get it.

That's my gut feeling right now. It comes down to United - City 24 april. Football is a funny game. United fans cheering on City and Liverpool fans cheering on United :houllier:

Sadly, we ain't going to win. I saw a few City games recently, they win with dominance and assurance. I don't believe they're going to slip somewhere.
Spurs are going to be too tired and with not much of a rotation potential.
Utd will likely rest the big guns, plus you're not in a good shape recently.
And then City walk over the rest.

They are a better team, so one might say it's fair, but they've bought their success with questionable money.

P.S. As a Liverpool supporter who's never even been to UK, and not watching/reading the UK media, the amount of abuse and negativity towards the club and supporters on here makes me uncomfortable. Generalizing and enforcing hate towards people you've never met is not healthy.

Oh man I can't imagine why Liverpool wouldn't be popular on a Manchester United forum who woulda' thought.

Not wanting your competitor to win is OK, and I can also understand old rivalry. But there's a lot of people in here willing to sacrifice their own team's success for our failure. This thing + general language used does not feel right to me.

There's varying degrees of fandom. Some folks would rather lose a toe than see their rivals win anything, and others who don't really care so long as their team does well.

I'm pretty much entirely in the latter. If I had a choice between a United quadruple with us finishing in a CL spot or United winning feck all & us playing in the Europa, I'd pick the first choice all day long, as all I really care about is watching good football - especially when it's us. Offer that choice to a more "hardcore" fan & they'd say they'd 17th if it meant United won feck all

The language used is fine .. it's a fierce football rivalry.

I don't get it, it's not like people are extending it to death threats or violence, hating your rival teams and revelling in their failures is one of the best parts of football. Is it irrational and silly? A bit yeah, but again that's all part of the fun. What doesn't feel right to you? Football is tribal and silly, you're in the wrong sport if you're expecting pats on the back from your rival supporters.

It's not like top 4 would be some huge success for United anyway. I'm sure if it was a case of 'we win cl and liverpool win the league' 99% of their fanbase would accept that, but for United as a club merely getting top four is no big deal whatsoever historically, whereas Liverpool winning another league would be HUGE. And again, rivalries mean something and how well your rival is doing is absolutely very important, it means something.

End of the day United finish 5th and what? The sky falls in? They're a mega club with stupid resources who can still sign very good players without CL football. Liverpool win the league and they're subjected to the media wankfest for months, any Liverpool supporting friends they might have being totally unbearably smug, and the very real prospect that Liverpool might be getting back on that perch.

I don't think it should even be a remotely hard choice for United fans. The idea of watching Henderson lift the league title should make any of their fans come out in a cold sweat, it's horrible enough for me and Liverpool aren't even our rivals. Missing out on CL football (let's face it, they're not going to win the thing next season) for one year is hardly a massive sacrifice to stop that horrendous nightmare.

Now, now, Squishy, "irrational and silly" is a bit glossy. It's a proper, primate level hatred.

The Guardian said:
The club and Merseyside police conducted an investigation into disturbances, during which objects, including human excrement, coins and food, were thrown at United supporters in the Anfield Road stand. Liverpool's stadium and operations manager Ged Poynton has written to United admitting standards had "fallen short".

Sorry but you'll never fully get it.
Part of the passionate rivalry comes from growing up around it. You could be passionate otherwise and definitely get a decent feeling of it being online long enough, but I do think only those growing up in the northwest of England will 100% get the rivalry. It's passionate hatred, as far as football goes. Most don't wish real harm on each other and most are mates when it comes to it, but as far as the footy and teams go it's proper burning passionate stuff. A lot of it on the United side comes from all the tripe we've heard for 30 years about how they think they're as good as us, and the media putting them on a pedestal up there and gushing over them more than anyone else, for some reason. The delusions and the media playing up to it definitely plays a large part. How them being scummy is always ignored completely or glossed over too.

I have Liverpool supporting mates who I love, but the absolute shite they've come out with over the years, and the revelling in United's losses despite United fans barely mentioning Liverpool in the past....feck em. Now I wind them up every chance I get.

Interesting result tonight at Brighton. That win gives Cardiff huge incentive to get something from their home game v Liverpool on Sunday now. If they’d lost tonight, it was all but over for them. Warnock would be a hero forever if he manages to prevent all three points going to Merseyside this weekend.

Tbf, once spurs offer a threat to united you will be hated too. But you’re a while off being a threat to the big clubs. So no worries there.

But, your on your way, your the new arsenal.

Wait a minute, while popping a joke at Spurs is funny... They finished closer and were a bigger threat to United last season.

They also finished above Liverpool every season since 13/14. This season aside they've been a much bigger threat to everyone, including United, no?

Are you from the UK? Cos this isn't even slightly true.

Liverpool could get relegated, go into administration and be slogging it out in the conference for 20 years and Man Utd fans would still hate you. And vica versa. You've offered absolutely no threat to them for about 25 years (and have seemingly provided some of their funniest moments) and they still hate you. Leeds haven't been in the top division for 15 years and have a look at the championship thread to see how much some of their fans, especially those from the UK/NW hate them.

Rivalry isn't just about success, hence why 99% of the Man Utd fans on here are cheering on their actual City neighbor.

They play City at home on the final day. Would be as easy a 3 points as City could hope for if they were already safe. If they still need something from that, yesterday's result isn't that bad for us.

Either way, dropping points against Cardiff and Huddersfield should be inexcusable for us.

Granted I haven't been very active on the Caf the last few years, but how have we managed to promote Liverpool supporting posters who are even dumber than the old ones?

Yes, Cardiff will be out of relegation zone if they somehow win. Plus Cardiff will have got used to playing "12 men" over the last few games so they will know what to expect . Unfortunately it has routine win for Liverpool written all over it. Only glimmer of hope could be if Liverpool are tired after travelling to Porto, Cardiff played yesterday and are at home so should be fresher.

So, where does tonight’s gut-wrenching defeat leave City, particularly with their next game being against the same opponent as tonight?

Initial thought after the game was that they may find it difficult to lift themselves again so quickly, but on reflection I think we’ll see the disappointment galvanise them as a team. With only the league to focus on (apart from the cup final), maybe their chances of keeping the title out of Liverpool’s grubby mitts have increased?

It's so hard to call as it could very easily go either way. No sense in really thinking about it too much until the game itself. I'm not feeling more or less confident because of them getting knocked out the CL.

There is absolutely no chance we beat City or even take points from them this weekend imo. We currently have one fit central midfielder, Dele is playing with a broken hand, no Kane, Lamela injured again, Aurier still out. Our ability to rotate after a grueling couple of weeks will be almost non existent.

Yep. The adrenaline of a CL knockout tie can get you through adversity. But, a game that you can lose and still get top 4 is different. In my opinion Spurs will put everything into the CL.

With tongue in cheek I said Cardiff would beat Brighton tonight and could be Liverpool's toughest remaining fixture ....I didn't expect that to be a reality but they are going into that game with something to fight for at least.

For City the United game must be the key and if they win their next two games they should be fine. They don't have the champions league distraction so that makes their final 3 games much easier.

More likely, Cardiff and Brighton will be neck to neck into the final weekend v Manchester.
