Didn't see anything different today than any other day, or before the contract, he has never been known for his workrate or defensive game. He's been asked to drop deep today though, far deeper than Rashford on the other side, and that's why he was quiet. The only hope was for him to get the ball and show a bit of magic, which he tried, but we hardly had any time in the final third tonight.
No, that’s not why he was quiet.

Him, Lingard and Rashford up front are horrific just no cohesion. They all do nothing.
Sums it up well. Two world class players and one of them and we might look decent, but it's no wonder we barely do anything with the three of em.

One of you posters hit the nail and called him laziboy, so from now on, he's a reclining sofa!

Martial has motivation issue. You will never see the fight in him. He is good but without that attitude, he can’t call himself a Utd player. He is almost the same as Pogba maybe that how a French player behaves. If someone comes with a good offer, I would sell him as well. Too moody for me.

He's quiet regardless. Im not fooled by him. His "magic" is far far too rare for top club standards.

I'll be surprised if Ole tolerates his approach to games.

The club needs to become competitive again, and it needs leaders. Martial is no leader, and does not seem to care much about anything. I would not be sad to see us cash in and let him go. Why not?

He just isn't very good, and doesn't have this "world class" potential or talent that people always bandy about.

Martial's decent stats are because his one good quality is finishing, but have always flattered his actual quality over 90 minutes - he's a 'moments' player and if you're playing as a winger for United that's just not enough.

I'd give him one more season but only ever play him as a CF, as you can get away with being a moments player in this position more than you can when playing as a LW. He doesn't even have the qualities to play as a LW given his lack of intensity (to put it mildly) and ridiculously overrated dribbling. How many times have you seen him reluctant to take on a full back who he should be ripping to shreds if anywhere near as talented as people make out?

So yeah, give him one more season, but my expectation is that he'll end up having a Quaresma type of career; moments of excellence every now and then but largely underwhelming due to lack of drive and footballing brain. He'll end up playing most of his footballer at Europa League level teams in Spain and/or Italy and even find himself benched for those type of clubs at times given how utterly dreadful his bottom level is.

Never seems to fulfill his chances but he's doing better than the likes of Lingard.

The board are besotted with Martial but they have been a huge failure in the management of the club for six years. I don't think Martial can be the player the board thinks he can be.

There was a short run followed by a shot that got blocked, that the keeper was well positioned to save without too much trouble. Apart from that, I'm struggling to recall anything.

Strange choice from Ole.

he lacks any determination or drive to be honest. Most frustrating thing about him is his unwillingness to be aggressive. Like just do something.....

Yep and he Lacks intensity. The talent is there but that drive, determination and intensity to want to do more isn't there.

Weird thing is, he was electric in his first 2 seasons with us. I was at Wembley in 2016 when he ran Everton ragged all game. Those performances are just not there anymore.

It is sad, but this is pretty much it in a nutshell. No consequences for him at all.

What are we letting sink in? In what way has he earned the right to just go and play in another position? His left sided attacker position he can't even nail down and perform in. This is such a weird line of thinking. One of the easier positions to just blow the dust out and get the ball and go out guys and he can't even make that work... Yet he should move into a position with many more layers of nuance because he might be better there?

This is just weird to me.
Nothing weird. Just FIFA generation symdrome. In video game you just need players with good stats. You control the player's mind and ultilize those ability with the view of the whole pitch. Players like Martial clearly has that potential (stats), so moving player around when it doesn't work is a strait of FIFA generation.

In reality, it's a competition for position with managers' tacitical plans at work. This game in particular, Ole tried to press and the better players to spearhead our pressing are Lingard and Rashford for the intensity and their drive. You have to be better than someone at the key requirement for the manager's tactical point to earn that position or you would be at best shoehorned in a different position. Feck off offering nothing and still act like above the club.

Still there are some trying to spin it on Lingard having a worse game just to clutch on Martial potential, and easily swept the fact how terrible Martial played central against supposed tired legs in first leg, made our pressing worse and we had to settle for 0-1 defeat.

Like the other 2 forwards tonight he just wasn't good enough, none of them are good enough to be the main man up top for United right now.

He doesn't inspire others, he doesn't rise to the occasion, he has a couple good moments and is tremendously overrated.

He fits right in at Woodwards Man United.
This is it. It's not any managers' team now we can clearly see after all these manager appointments.

Ole said the right things. Setting up, encouraging what some want to this team do. Guess what? Same shite with same culprits at play.

Really? Not long ago, I remember many think we needn't sign anyone, it's just our manager sucks, and doing it wrong. So the point of a manager doing it right is just to prove the wrong doing manager was right all along? Wasting our season just for that?

Whenever you feel like he might come good enough after all, please remember we just handled him a new contract worth 250k a week.

That’s three times what Mané and Sane earn, twice than Bernardo Silva and Son, 50% more than Sterling, and 20% more than Salah and Hazard.

That’s how stupid we are.

Yes, We have literally learnt nothing from the sanchez transfer.
Sanchez is no better but at least he runs around a bit. Between the two of them 700k a week for two hugely over rated players

I'm guilty to be a part of the so called Martial Fc but looking at the way things are going, he is probably going to end up like Anelka and Mbappe will be the one end up being like Henry.

Anyone that thought this forward line didn't need any work was delusional, Mourinho needed to go because he's a miserable, toxic sack of shit that was dragging our club into the gutter, not because he didn't like Martial or Pogba.

That’s a very weirdly worded post but the new manager has got much better results/performances out of this squad of players than the previous manager did. Which, for the record, doesn’t mean our squad is good enough to compete at the highest level.

Does that help?

Try to read the post again, and see the point being made about the squad, not an attack on Ole, and Mourinho should have been given the boot before the first official game of this season (back him or sack him).

If the people with power at the club is really competent, that's straight forward, rather than Ole having to do all the damage control after taking over, just to have Martial given a luxurious extension, just for fans starting to realize the issue has been here all along.

Ole really needs to stand on the touchline and roast him for 90 minutes to get a performance out of him. He's that sort of player, needs constant kicks up the arse.

He is getting to that age where he needs to start displaying his quality. That contract is stupid money, what has he possibly done to earn that contract? A few step overs in training? Look at the players in his position from the other 'top' teams, Hazard, Mo Salah, Sane, Mane, Son, Sterling. He is not on a level with those players at this point in time for me.

Read my response to @Pogue Mahone.

Mourinho needs to be axed, no one debate that. However, the timing is issue. It's not a situation where you can just one step at a time. Let me remind you Mourinho was given an extension (!). Now guess what Martial hasn't proven nothing yet given a luxurious extension. See the similarity? Both being put in the situation where their bad performance doesn't hurt themselves as much as it hurts this club. And yet here we are again here with the same, we need upgrade. Perhaps, it's time for the one who signed and gave these people money being accounted for this mess.
