If you could sell and sign 2 players in Defence, Midfield and Attack who would it be?

I hope there's some Chinese billionaire who only happens to own the season review 2012-13 on DVD and buys up Young, Smalling and Jones.

Agreed, Young won't be a starter next season. Ole has to get someone in.
Young would be good backup if need be.
Yep, for all the anti Jones sentiments recently, he's just a committed guy doing his best.
Yes he's not the right level now, but he played well enough last season to not only force back into the England squad, but start

He'll do fine as cover for both full back positions.
We need to take City's lead, identify a 23-26 year old top performing right back, and go big for them.

Many blame Pogba and Martial for not running which is fair enough. However there were another 9 players on the pitch who got outran by Everton, players who has little else to contribute rather then workrate. Time and time the likes of Jones had failed to make an impact. He's shit defensively and he's always injured. I wonder what the hell this guy must do to be shown the door.

Jones is a good defender, but good isn't enough. Similarly Smalling is good.
Between them they seem to reduce their own individual strengths, as they're a dreadful pair and have a tiny amount of appearances between them bearing in mind the 8 years they've shared here.

We need one absolute don of a centre back, and relegate these lads to occasional starters.

How many feck ups must they be involved in before we admit that they aren't good enough?

Its incredible isn't it. Even after all these years, people will still defend them. I sometimes wonder whether the only reason they are here is to fulfil a homegrown quota.

If that's why we keep them then FFS promote Tuanzebe and get a young English defender. Id rather gamble on a promising player then see us insisting on a proven failure.

It explains all the clear out/overhaul threads that we have. People literally believe we have a limitless pot of money and can just get rid of players for free, and sign anyone we want.

The club would be bankrupt within a transfer window if we were ever fan owned
Nearly everyone has De Ligt+ AWB + Sancho which in itself is like 200m-250m. Then people are adding Felix and Jovic/Coutinho and Rodri or some other guy. People are really expecting us to spend 400m-450m . Forget one summer, I doubt we can spend that amount even in 2 consecutive summers

Defence: Rojo and Bailly (Alderweireld, Ferro).

Midfield: Matic, Mata (Van De Beek, Tonali).

Attack: Lingard, Sanchez (Sancho, Felix). Or Adam Ounas on a loan with an option to buy.

I'm banking on one of O'Connor, Laird, Williams to make the step up for the right back role.

Defence:
Out - Smalling and Jones. Not the worst at the club, but as common first choice picks I'm fed up of them. 8 years service of mediocrity.
In - Konate and Alderweireld

Midfield:
Out - Matic and Pogba. Again not the worst at the club, but fed up of them.
In - Kroos and Bruno Fernandes

Attack:
Out - Lukaku and Lingard. No explanation needed
In - Pepe and Jovic

OGS already said we won't be buying 6-7 players, this is fantasy land. Of course we won't spend that much, but with some sales and the money the club/owners have they should, real state of intent would be to go out this summer and buy at least 4 players no matter the cost, City spent huge for Guardiola his first summer to get him going with players he needed. Utd needs to do the same. That said I have no real confidence in that happening on a big scala.

Attack out... Sanchez and Mata
Attack in... Sanco and Felix
Midfield out... Fred and Herrera
Midfield in... Saul and kante
Defence out... Valencia and rojo
Defence in...kimmich and de ligit

Obvs we couldn't afford the 750m or so it would cost ... And even if we could afford it I doubt we could tempt more than one or two of them here anyway

from what i see the counter attacking football Ole is trying to play, Lukaku's day is numbered. If you can ship out Sanchez, then you need to buy a fast pace CF to compete with Rashford.

For this summer window my guess would be
In: Toby, Zaha, Bissaka, B. Fernandes
Out: Lukaku, Valencia, Mata, Herrera

This will cost 150m net probably already.

I didn't included Mata, Young, Valencia, Darmian, Herrera, Matic as they are either out of contract or ageing and will be gone soon, I focused on the ones that are realively young and could stay for years here if don't shipped out.

Defence Out : Rojo-Bailly
Defence In : AWB - Jose Maria Gimenez

Midfield Out : Pereira-Fred
Midfield In : Bruno Fernandes-Ndidi

Forward Out : Martial-Sanchez
Forward In : Sancho - Joao Felix

How about 7 defenders out and 3 in?
Valencia, Young, Darmian, Smalling, TFM, Jones & Rojo = Meunier, Tierney & Koulibaly
3 Midfielders out and 3 in ?
Matic, Mata & Herrera = Rodri, Neves, & Fernades
3 Strikers out and 2 in ?
Lukaku, Lingard & Sanchez = Jović & Sancho

I'd also consider selling DDG & Pogba if we could get Oblak & Felix !

13 (15) OUT and 8 (10) IN

Oblak/DDG
Meunier-Linderlöf-Koulibaly-Tierney
Rodri-Neves
Sancho-Felix/Pogba-Martial
Jović

Henderson
Dalot-Bailly-Tuanzebe-Shaw
Fred-McTominay
Chong-Periera-Rashford

Jones, Smalling and Young just extended their contracts. So I guess Rojo and Darmian will leave.

Wan Bissaka and Alderweireld sound realistic to improve our defense.

I prefer defenders like De Ligt or Koulibaly, but they are not realistic if we don't play Champions League next season.

I do find it interesting that on this forum when choosing replacements (and maybe it's understandable if wanting a young core) that we see names of players who have had 1 either good or spectacular season in leagues different in style to the EPL. I am not saying these players won't improve us but its not a guarantee

Let's start with Ajax lads like De Ligt (who is fantastic) Van Beek, Ziyech - let's say they are this years Monaco- other than Mpabbe and Bernado Silva who from that great team has gone on to be a resounding success?
Meunier- must be a reason PSG ain't busting a gut to keep him.
Jovic, Felix, Fernandes - basing buying these on what exactly- the Portuguese league is a pub standard and Jovic again has had one good season.

I think maybe a couple of these potentially could be good buys - De Ligt is the one who stands out and we should be trying everything to buy him- but the rest are a flip of the coin.

Strictly keeping to the rules:

Attack OUT - Sanchez and Mata
Attack IN - Felix and Sancho

Midfield OUT - Pogba and Matic
Midfield IN - Rice and Tielemans

Defence OUT - Valencia and Rojo(to be honest in defence you can pick any 2 of Valencia, Rojo, Bailly, Darmian)
Defence IN - De Ligt and Sessegnon

Obviously this isn't realistic we arn't gonna sign Sancho and Felix(let alone the rest) in one summer that would be 200+ million on their own...... maybe replacing Sancho for Brandt might make it a tad more realistic.

Even then Herrera obviously wants to go and contract is running out, We will have to pay Sanchez to leave, De Ligt want to go to Barca, Felix would rather play in Spain, we still have a number of defenders we need rid off. The De Gea situation to resolve (i'd sell him and see how Romero gets on next season and recall Henderson as back up).

Plus we have to face facts the size of the over haul is huge and we arn't gonna spend the kind of money it would take to bring in the 6 players most peoples(including mine) are talking about.

Whats essential is we get the right players in, every player needs to be a long term signing no players 27+ (becuase lets face it by the time we have a chance of been ready to compete they are gonna be in their 30's) and all with the right attitude.
