Look at a lot of the top clubs, look at their sporting directors. Ex-players, even less qualified than someone who’s been an ex-player, an assistant manager, a failing manager and a technical director. I’d rather have him not being a coach, because he’s actually never shown himself to have a team play good football. His reign as number 2 at United, yes we won, but we were consistently saying our football was boring. What he does know is the type of character players need to be at this club. He knows how important improving the youth set up is.
If you don’t want a rookie, who would you want as DoF (realistically, not ‘oh let’s get the June guy in’) Also, look at how Monchi did when he left Sevilla. What’s to say having a DoF, who is used to a different league, different connections, a different culture could just come in and completely rebuild our club?
