Expecting big things from him this year. He was magnificent yesterday v Chelsea. He’s ready to replace Silva right now in that central role, IMO. Guardiola shouldn’t wait another year or two to make that switch.
Bumped this thread back in August to post this and even as a fan of his play, I’m still surprised at exactly how good he’s been for City this year. I’d have Aguero as POTY with possibly Sterling behind him in ranking but Bernardo Silva only fractionally misses out.

What a player.

Best City player this season along with Sterling. Don't know how Aguero is getting in POTY ahead of him.

They're both in for player of the year. I'd be very surprised if Bernardo is not in team of the season.
Aguero was our best player till a month ago, in the last month Bernardo and Raheem have really stepped up with Sergio struggling.

Was gutted when they signed him. I had hopes that Jose being Portuguese could sign him, but no. We missed out on him big time, he was everything i hoped Mata would be

Jose said that he was a good player that he would want to sign but he already chose Man City.

That's absolute nonsense, both Fabinho and Bernardo Silva were closely followed by United even before Mourinho joined, he simply didn't want them.

Bernardo is too tiny and frail for Mourinho

Erm what, Jose said in an interview that B.Silva was a good player and would want him here. When asked in an interview about him when he was at Monaco.

“Will Bernardo Silva be with us next season? I don’t think so, honestly. But you never know, good players are always welcome here,”

Bernardo Silva probably went to City because Guardiola pushed for him hard after they played Monaco in the CL.

And he didn't go for him.
That's fine, but it's not because of being too small or not rating him. There are a whole host of reasons why he didn't come here, the most likely being that City targeted him early and aggressively. That is most likely why City got first pick at the Monaco players, they played them in the CL and so had done their research on the players. I believe Guardiola was extremely impressed with B.Silva in the CL tie and wanted him straight away after seeing him play against them.

It was probably because he didn't rate him enough, it doesn't mean that he thought that he was a bad player but he probably didn't saw him as a player that had the qualities that he was looking for.

Yeah, didn't we sign him really early in the window and most fans were quite shocked how early the deal was done

I doubt he would perform at the same level under Mourinho. Just look him playing for Portugal under Santos and compare how he plays at City. Probably would be chasing bricks flying over his head and everyone would say he is shit.

City have this incredible habit of not spending lucrative fees for great players.

We've wasted so much money since SAF retired.

On B.Silva: He's a fantastic player and a work-horse.

Best player on the park in the recent game City vs Spurs where City came away with a one - nil win.

Wasn't that comment made about Isco?
Yup.. watching a side like City has been a bit infuriating. In the sense that a side whose average height is what? has been dominating in the Premier League. Should be a wake you up call for stoke on a rainy night

Magnificent player. I remember many of us pining for him when he was at Monaco and available. When City got him it felt like we had missed out another important technical midfielder. Unsurprisingly when he had a tough first season others mocked that interest that people had in him. And this season you can see why it existed. Granted I don't think any of us felt he would be this incredible, but the close control was phenomenal even at Monaco. It was just the physicality that created doubts over how impactful he would be.

But now we'll all seen it and it's evident that he was another elite technical playmaker that we missed out on. What separates him from most is that he's both sublime technically but also an absolute engine of a midfielder.

I hope we lose the habit of ignoring these sort of talents. We desperately lack these type of players while City keep stocking them up. Ole commented on to Neville that we have never been a 'slow build up team'. I hope that doesn't mean he's also going to stick to old traditions and ignore such players.

He’s City’s Iniesta. Plays as one of the midfield three or one of the front three and is equally incredible. He’s probably still slightly underrated due to his versatility.

He’s so good that either David Silva or Sané would have to drop out for him in City’s best XI.

See this is the reason City challenge and we dont. It feels like either all our players are on form or not.

Best incoming transfer Guardiola has made in his tenure at City, a long term replacement for David Silva and for a very reasonable price at that.

I remember watching both Monaco-City games due to Mbappe's hype and coming away immensely impressed by Silva. How Barcelona didn't go for him I'll never know, he just seemed tailor made for them.

This is where 'nostalgia' nonsense posts fall short, because when there is a clearly impressive player, like B.Silva has been, they are absolutely given their due.

Wonderful player.
