I definitely wouldn't want to be Darmian with those sideburns and all that.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Worrying how we cannot get rid of him, and another reminder of how it isn't easy for a club like United to get rid of 'deadwood'. Letting Fellaini go was the clearest intent of us finally deciding that we'd prefer a thinner squad than a mediocre one, but looks like we're having trouble finding suitors for our garage sale.

Darmian will probably be a professional and do his job when he steps out the next time, but we shouldn't be surprised if he isn't running through walls to help the team. I wonder how many other players in that squad have been told they're surplus to requirements, and end up on the pitch nonetheless.

So, is Darmian now playing for Juve or is the thread title wrong?

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
How can he be a worse FB than Young and Valencia ?
He's not worse than present Valencia. He's better defensively than Young but offers even less going forward. Young's final ball is poor, but at least he stretches play and gives us the semblance of having width on the right which creates more space for our attacking players than they get with Valencia or Damian there.

We pay him what, £300k, a month not to play, yet the club can't pay the non playing staff a living wage which would cost around £300k a year. Pathetic all round.

It's a ruse from his agent to fish out a good contract at his next club. Would bet my house that article is bollocks.

Given that Ed Woodward runs the football side of things, I wouldn't make that bet unless you would like to be homeless

For all the stick he gets, he’s a better defender than the likes of Young, Jones and Valencia.

We should be keeping him and getting rid of all them other clowns.

Definitely, he actually looks quite good at CB when he plays there. Probably rcb in a 3 is his best position.

Ok Valencia subcided since last year but before that he was great.
Yeah it was unfair to include Valencia with Young and Jones, as he was a decent servant for us.

Darmian should definitely be outlasting Young and Jones at United though - he actually knows how to defend and would be a useful squad player.

Darmian is able to come in from the shadows and perform, he has done it several times now when called upon, while the others who are given countless more opportunities stink the place up regularly.

There isn't much point because he is completed dogshit. There is a reason he never plays and it is because he is complete dogshit. He is so bad going forward people just make shit up about his defending as if he must be good at defending to compensate. No, he is shite at defending too.

Aye, we done something similar by getting rid of Blind.

Neither I'd say are starting quality, but I know who I'd rather have as squad options, if given a straight choice between them and as you mentioned: Young, Jones, Valencia (this version of him anyway) etc. Their versatility was an added bonus.

Oh well. Suppose Blind wanting to leave was another factor.

Spoken like someone with inside knowledge of staff wages..
Eh?

The club has around 900 employees. I estimated 200 of them are on minimum wage. And to increase their salary by £1500 would cost £300k a year. We can't do that but we can pay Darmian that a month to play 0 games most months. I think that is shocking to be honest.

How did you estimate that 200 staff is on minimum wage?

It was a guess. Do you agree or disagree with my opinion?

Do you think it is good we pay Darmian, an average player who plays 5 games a season, £3m a year in salary but can't shell out less than £500k to pay all staff a fair salary?

We are going to play him again this weekend, give him an extension and then proceed to get about 5-10 appearances a year.

But how do you know the staff is not paid a fair salary? And what on earth does paying fair salaries to staff have to do with Darmian's salary being discussed in Darmian's transfer thread?

Hope we don't dither on his sale again. Just get rid already, who cares if we get £10m instead of £12m?

Look at me, calling £2m nothing. This is why I'm not a businessman.

Let him go. Unless we play him 20+ times per season he's not worth keeping. I'd like us to sign Meunier to replace him.
he should have been gone in the summer, definitely january. so I wouldn't put it past Ole and Woodward to give him an extension now that he is back in the team bizarrely.

I agree that it's not really Darmian's fault or relevant. But it kind of shows how inefficient the club is run right now. Darmian costs £3m a year in wages, plus say £2m in transfer fee, to play 5 games a season. That can't be right. My point is that we can pay that huge amoutn for very little of Darmian's services, but can't pay our low paid staff a little more.
