Liverpool
Barsa and Liverpool are the most cringeworthy clubs in existence. One with their "mes que un club" crap and the other one with their "this means more" excrement

Edit: For the record, I did not create this thread. This was a post in the RAWK thread drawing a parallel between Liverpool and Barsa fans. It was a mod who decided to make a new thread out of this.
To be fair, this might as well be called the ‘I can’t stand Liverpool and Barcelona’ thread and be done with it.

UTD fans will never understand the mindset and culture around Liverpool and Barca because they are not Liverpool and Barca fans, it’s easy from afar to make negative references, and laugh at their so called ‘above the rest’ attitude. It’s easy to take away negative parts of their history, and shine a light on them for all to see.

UTD, as a club also has a Holier than nou rhetoric spinning around it, but what always seems to be the perception is not always the the truth.

The truth is Liverpool is a fantastic club, that always sells out for games, has been successful, it has a mystique about it, especially from those abroad, and on a European night. It has a proud footballing history, and it’s stadium is a place of legend, and it’s woven in to the fabric of its society. Barca is generally the same, and so is UTD.

Every club thinks they’re different.

Embrace it.

Those favors logically had to be awarded with medals(three times)

Barcelona recently dispossessed him from these medals. Decision promoted by politicians (in this case from Belgium or from the cell) as has been happening in Barcelona since the era of Laporta.

First it was not 3. 1 it was an insignia that the barcelona president had and he gave it to Franco after a match on the spot. The other 2 there are pictures but not official records

During the civil war, the elected president was detained and killed by the francoist troops
From there, the presidents were appointed by the Franco regime. Some of them they didn't even know about football and didn't see a match
They did that to control an institution that by then was left winged and catalanist
The guy from the picture is the son of the former president that gave the first. What do you think their allegiance was?

I can guarantee that the people going to see the matches were disgusted by it, but it was the time that they were forced to live in

Agreed. It's a random thread.

Some other bloke might as well create a "Madrid story" thread just to say "Madrid and City are the most disgusting clubs in the world".

By the OP logic, the "Theatre of dreams" motto is equally mocked by non-Man Utd fans all over the world. Or more recently, after 2013, the "Best club in PL history".

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
You've crossed the line between cynicism and vomit inducing comments a couple times, but this marks a new high.

It's not a holier than thou attitude that irks people like you, is that you can't separate between your dislike of a team for certain reasons and the lies that have been spoken through hatred for years.

For a team that had his president executed, had his successors chosen by the people who murdered him, and were stripped of every sign of their identity, "Mes que un club" is not about being better than Real, Atletico, Lazio, United, Bayern or Livorno, it's about what the team was meant for people that were being oppressed under a fascist regime, an umbrella that shielded and allowed them to express their ideals of what they wanted for their region.

Maybe you'd be fine if Theresa May ordered to execute the president of Cardiff, stripped Wales of their flag, any sign of Wales identity and banished them from speaking Welsh. If they rose against that with a "Mes que un club" motto would you say they're just stating some sense of superiority over all the other teams?.

Curious. Why does the badge change so often? 1936 and 2002 are basically the same but five changes between them. Is it when certain events happen?

There's clearly a huge difference between what United do and Barca.

The "Theatre of Dreams", similar to "The Happiest Place On Earth" with Disneyland is for people who visit, people who WANT to be there, it doesn't compare OT to any other stadium in the world.

Barca's "mes que un club" explicitly put themselves ahead of every other club.

As for "Best club in PL history", that's just a fact.

No, mate, no. More Than a Club does not mean Better Than Your Club.

I always thought the slogan also had something to do with the different sports FCB have professional teams competing: women's football, basketball, handball, futsal and roller hockey. Plus several other amateur teams, including athletics, rugby, wheelchair basketball, volleyball, etc.

All this may be regarded as irrelevant in a football forum, but it's not for the thousands of fans of those less popular sports.

A lot of clubs are like that Real, Bayern, Sporting CP, Benfica, etc all sponsor a host of sports.

It was not exclusive to Catalonia. My mother could not speak Galician either.
I do not justify it but they did not kill him for being president of Barcelona, but for being an important member of esquerra (I imagine he participated in the 34) and for bringing weapons to the front. In other words, they used Barcelona as a political trophy, since he was president since 35.
2 medals are not documented but happened,as the helps to sign Kubala.
In any case my main criticism is not the mès que un club used as an instrument in that era but to the vulgar use that is done today, squeezing it and extending it to all areas, el "buenismo".
Núñez didn't allow that level of political influence and could express the catalanism of the club.

You're referring to Gallego being banned, right? This is what surprised me most when I lived in Spain. I'd always assumed it was just Eusquera and Catalan, as people generally only tend to talk about those places and how they were oppressed. To my surprise, Galicia also suffered quite a bit, but the many Galicians I spoke to never mentioned anything about it.

Even if the motto genuinenly intented to say "We're better and above all you other shithouse clubs", it's hilarious that people would get offended by a slogan. From a club from another country no less, not even a direct rival.

This is football. A sport where are all the insitutions are corrupt as feck, clubs owned by shady billionairs, the game played by immensely overpaid multi-millionair brats, followed by lots and lots of idiot folks. Yet people bring up "class" all the time. If you want class, follow chess or Math Olympics.

The language is still very much alive in rural areas, especially among older people and nobody arrested you for speaking Galician , but socially it was not well considered.
That's why I think the whole issue of censorship is a bit exaggerated.
In any case Galicia did not have the bourgeoisie of Catalonia and Euskadi, nor a Sabino Arana to create a new narrative

Never said that it was exclusive of catalonia. I replied at the comment that catalan was not forbbiden. Basically a lie. The medals that Franco received it was because the president was a friend if Franco appointed by the regime. Of course they would do such a thing. But the presidency had nothing to do with the idiosincracy of the club and their associates.

Might be that you mistranslate catalan or mistly your hatred for the club. But more than a club means that is more than a club. Not more than your club, not more than any club and not the best club. And facts tells that is true. As they donate money to causes, the club is involved politically ( as shown in 2017 closing the stadium to the public in protest for the catalan referendum)

That other clubs do the same in one way or another? Yes. They could use the same sentence and would be right. Barça doesnt claim to be the only one.

The theatre of the dreams is nowadays the theatre of the nightmares currently and you still caloing the same.

Basically every club claims being special and only haters take it to a level of stupidty like this thread

I would have to read more to answer that. There were many presidents, at different times in which they were favored by Franco, were all close Friends?.
If they were really so affected they could have retired the medals 40 years ago, 20 or ten ago, but they do it precisely now.
They turn the club into an instrument rather than an authentic symbol of oppression.
In any case, do not take it so seriously culés, you're going to play a C.L final, let people bother you a little :)

actually they were or him or general moscardo. Of course Barcelona is a political instrument as is Madrid with Florentino. Who is denying that? Barcelona was way more pro independentist with Laporta than now. If they did it now is because the medals to Franco had been lately more common knowledge.

And yes, you can bother us, but we will be here with our "Holier than thou" forever till barcelona is your religion as well

That's a really lame excuse, I'd imagine the first thing that they'd have done (post-Franco) would've been stripping those medals, not in 2019 for rewriting history.

Everyone makes the same mistake with the same assumptions. Mes Que un Club in applying some kind of arrogant virtue to it. It is nothing of the sort. The title Mes Que un Club is steeped in historical and social context; they're one of the only clubs in existence that are owned collectively by fans, hence More than a Club (not owned outright by one individual or group of businessmen), and secondly, it's a statement in general about Catalonia, culture and how the club is the pride of that culture.

It's got nothing to do with attempting to set itself as better than other clubs, but rather in celebration of its historic, social and cultural values.
What???? :houllier:

He's right. Bartomeu could be kicked out tomorrow, so to speak, by the "socis":

Along with Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, Barcelona is organised as a registered association. Unlike a limited company, it is not possible to purchase shares in the club, but only membership.[189]The members of Barcelona, called socis, form an assembly of delegates which is the highest governing body of the club.[190] As of 2016 the club has 140,000 socis
