Expectations under Ole: 2019/20

I expect him to implement a particular brand of football, something recognizable that is in line with what most of us consider football worthy of this club.

I expect to see a group of players who are on the same page, increasingly well drilled in the system he opts for.

I expect him to be utterly ruthless about benching/getting rid of anyone who isn't 100% committed to his project - or who simply isn't suited to what he's trying to achieve.

I expect it to become apparent fairly soon whether he actually has a project we can believe in.

It sounds like a running joke since the same has been said in recent seasons - however this is effectively a transition season once again, so Top 4 shouldn't be regarded as a compulsory target as long as the style of play and entertainment value improve and the gap between the future champions goes down to something like low double digits which would translate to either Top 4 or at the very least provide a platform for a proper title challenge in 2020/21.

Assuming everything goes to plan (a wild assumption I know) then a top-four finish, attacking football and a clear sense of progression would be acceptable.

We must never have another season like this one. Even pre season lots of supporters were writing us off and in hindsight they were completely correct.
One thing that supports expect is to have hope for something better and apart from the initial post Ole boost this season has been terrible.
Things have to change and things have to improve. That goes without saying.
I don’t expect miracles but I do expect that the structural changes are soon in place.
I also expect to see a number of players leaving OT and 4 or 5 significant improvements brought in.
Top 4 as a minimum and a repeat win of the Europa League.
Is that too much to ask of this great club?

Not going to happen. EL is VERY difficult to win, as are domestic cups.
And as long as Wolves are in the cup competitions, we won't be getting past them.

Are people watching us play or do some fans still think that we are competing in CL finals, with Ronaldo and Rooney, up front?
We are struggling to beat clubs who are bottom of the league and we have won only 2 games in the 11. Barring divine intervention or a miracle, none of the points made above will happen.

Sorry for being so negative, but things are going to get worse, before they get better.
I am looking at next season, as a repeat of the Moyes season...or worse.

Wow, feel your pain bro but it's not going to be that bad, the Europa League is becoming increasingly easier for English EPL teams to win since the CL spot was given. Our wage bill is €270M per year even with the 25% reduction, this alone would probably dwarf the other 3 teams in our Europa Group league combined. I think EPL will start well then Fall away and we might be 4th with great investmentsthis summer, can see us wining LC, early knock out in FA CUP and trying to win Europa League again.

Hope your right bit more optimistic than myself , investment is needed, then I may be more optimistic, hope ole and the board do not just put the youth through that are not ready or good enough? If those 4 midfielders in reports come be happier , even with 2 Rice and Tielamans..

I don't honestly think we are any worse than Arsenal or Chelsea and we will likely outspend both this Summer (if Chelsea can spend at all).

For god sake. How many people are going to slate Ole without giving him his due shot...

There is so much division on the boards right now, but there are many threads that are talking up the fact that our club is toxic the players are downing tools again. That we need to clear the deadwood and sort out the team over a period of time, and that at least with Ole, as a club legend, he would have so much goodwill with the fans. For god sake, let's extend that goodwill to at least one transfer window before we chuck him in the bin with all the others.

There are many threads on this. How about waiting two months and see how many players we have moved on and what sort of players are coming in? How about reviewing the pre-season and seeing how the team functions when he has time to coach new things into the team and has all HIS players available.

I fully believe that the fast press we did for 10 or so games caught up with our players. At the same time we had a number of players who were intent on leaving, a number intent on walking around the pitch and the injuries caught up with everyone. There are no doubt some toxic elements in the dressing room, and lets face it a lot of the toxicity could be expected - everyone in there feels underpaid when they look across and see Sanchez milking the club dry for no return. There are many things that the club must help Ole with - he can't do it alone.

Give him a chance to be judged on his merits, no the shitshow he inherited.

Expectations is a tough one. I would expect him to make big changes if I had that kind of faith, but what I really expect, if I'm honest, is a worse season than this one. Players like Young, Lingard, Jones etc will still be here but I don't see us making any really positive moves in the transfer market and I don't think Ole will have a clue what to do. I'm just hoping we don't get pulled into a relegation scrap. People will laugh but it's very possible on current form.
