Personally, I’m not so much on this train of ‘don’t put any pressure on him’. I’m fully aware that he is young. He does, however, appear to be special. You score 30+ at youth level at 17, it creates expectation. I’m sure Monaco were not playing Mbappé at 17 with no expectation, he’s in the side for a reason. With that unusual pressure comes the praise of being an unusual player.

There is a thought that Greenwood can be a young star. If he doesn’t immediately become a star at 17/18 - that’s okay too, but the facts will still be that he wouldn’t be in the category of top players who were stars as teens. But if Greenwood scores some early goals, why shouldn’t we hope we have a new Mbappé, Rooney or whatever level of player and look to him to deliver results for us? Most of the real top tier of players stand out as teens, and I hope Mason does too.

Well judging by his injury woes lately his body isn't quite ready yet. No shame in that.

Completely agree with this. Next season I think he'll have a relatively big role, more than most people think. Don't think he'll see much reserve team/youth team action as I think after this season, he's shown he's already better than that level. He has the potential to be up there with anything we've seen come out of our youth system since the class of 92, and I don't think that's exaggerating at all. His close dribbling which running with the ball with either foot is incredibly rare, as is being able to score curled finishes, power finishes, chip shots, shots from range and set pieces with either foot. They're attributes that are just so fecking rare that the only thing that will stop him from making the step up is mentality and injuries IMO. Mentality is always a question mark with young players, as is injuries, so there's no much to do other then wait and see. Obviously he might not explode right away, or he might develop quickly. Only way to find out is to try, and I think Ole/Phelan and the rest will leave a path open for him to make that step up rather than sign loads of attackers and block his development.

I'm probably more excited about him breaking through than most of our likely summer signings. Could become a brilliant all around center forward, and imagine having a long term strike partnership of Greenwood and Rashford, 2 academy products? Who wouldn't love that?

Greenwood will play a lot for us in next season especially Europa league and at minimum 15 PL with a sub like 20 minutes, if he scored goal less than a goal per 130 minutes in PL, I think it's the decent ratio for him at 17. By 2020/21, he'll be ready to complete for other players on RW to make it his own permanent.

Right wing? Do you not think his primary role in the future would be that of a CF?

He's young and not ready for the CF role, he'd be bullied easily by CB if he plays as the sole striker. He can't be targetman and would be difficult to hold up the play due to his physical.

Considering he's left-footed, he's more ok playing on RW to develop his games until he's older and ready for the striker.

The likes of Mbappé, Rashford and Owen have played through the middle from young, but I do agree that he’s more likely to develop out wide. That said, it also depends on what formation we play, as we may not use wingers.

What I will say, is that Mason can physically hold his own against bigger players. And he’s not exactly left-footed either!

I think he should be given a chance by Ole, and starting him against Cardiff will be a start. Playing him down the middle might even give Rashford a kick up. I really hope he can play a big part next season.

Mbappe played behind the striker for Monaco and play on RW for France and PSG until he becomes striker by he's 20 and Greenwood is 17, he is not ready for it and he won't be playing for stirrer permanently, but until there's injury, he'll step up for this but still need to develop his games on wide. Greenwood is mainly left-footed, he carries balls on his left-footed. He uses his weak foot for finishing, passes and direct kick/corner.

He did operate a bit from the left at Monaco, but he was in a front two with Falcao. Silva played right side and Lemar played left side, with Fabinho and Bakayoko Central. Before Mbappé, Falcao played alongside Germain.

I think Greenwood can play in a combination of wing and central roles, similarly to Marcus Rashford. And I don’t know his strongest foot, but I know he uses both equally.

Have more hope he can be first choice quality striker than Rashford. Come on Mason, get a goal!

Clown on MUTV going around interviewing fans asking if they are excited that ‘Mason Garner starts today’. Where do they find these people?

They don't develop loan players, only their own. We would have to sell him to them with a buy-back clause.
I didn't know that.... let him stay with us then.

The thing I worry about is not having good technical back room staff. It's why I want Ole to recognise this and add to his staff.
It's one thing giving the young players game time, but they also need to develop technically and tactically. It's why LVG was perfect for Rash. Had Rash had someone similar on the coaching team (not necessarily manager wise), I feel he would have been further along.

With a talent like Greenwood, I don't want us to neglect that part of his development by doing the usual English thing of bigger, faster, stronger, without any other aspect being attended to.

Solid performance, just nice to see a United player with good, intelligent movement in the box for a change.

Really hoping he gets more game time next season and kicks on.

Thought he did really well. Finishing was off, full debut nerves and the rest being wank probably didn't help, and his heading ability is clearly his weak point I'd say but his overall game is really good, his movement is class. He'll be a star here IMO. Actually I'd say next season already he should be one of the main options in the front 3 if we don't sign anyone to start on the right. The goals will come, he has the movement and the shooting technique to get that, not worried at all.

Was easily the MotM though and if he converted one of those chances, would've been a perfect debut. Great movement, excellent technique on the ball, and just has that knack I think.

Was cutting them open. If he had his academy boots on we'd have won the game.

Can't wait for in a couple years for everyone to shit all over him and beg for Shoretire to play. Rinse and repeat.

Bit poor and wasteful if I'm honest, I'm hopeful he will improve but a pretty bad game.
Seriously? His finishing could have been better, but he was by far and away our best player. Constantly getting involved, didn't give the ball away, made dangerous runs, and would have had a hattrick on a different day. Way more positives than negatives, and he showed he is far more than just a goal scorer.

Other than both headers, most were at best half chances.. His movements, dribbling and technique were obviously superior to Rashford and Lingard, whose passing in the final 3rd were hopeful rather than measured. I'm very impressed and bearing that this team isnt exactly the easiest to play in.

Always much tougher to come into an underperforming team severely in our case, so not surprising that he wasn't at his best (finishing wise) but I'm confident he'll be an asset to us in the not too distant future.

You could see the talent, he looked more skilful than any of our other players. I wonder if his reluctance to use his right foot was down to nerves a little bit, and perhaps his finishing too. As poor as that game was us, we'd have looked considerably worse without him on the pitch
