Watching Mourinho's UCL analysis were eyes opener. He's actually a tactical genius, more competent than any BBC pundits or any armchair managers on here.

Too bad he can't manage new generation footballers anymore.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Proven right? when i already said he'll be sacked if he plays those players.....Twice. I guess your Jose crush hasn't gone yet, poor jose only had 4 transfer windows and half a billion to spend.

Have nothing for or against Ole but I am not an idiot who believes a club will let its interim manager make a decision on contract extensions after a whole 2.5 months when contract take time to put forth.

Life must hard for you, to be as clueless as you are.
Ok buddy. Do whatever will make you feel better about Ole's choice in players and bury your head in the sand as much as you can. No one really care as far as I'm concerned.

I am a big Mourinho 'hater' and I will tell you he was right. We are closer to relegation than competing for the title at this point and I will not be shocked if we finish bottom half next season.
He’s hardly a fecking prophet, I mean he pointed out the absolute obvious. He was also a huge part of the problem, though. Anyone with a set of eyes could / can see that this club is toxic to the core. Plenty need to be removed from their positions / sold and I don’t think anyone really disputed this. Fact of the matter was that Jose absolutely needed to go. Unfortunately we brought in a manager who looks like he has no business managing a club of our stature.

This Mourinho thread reminds me of the Welbeck thread. Anytime he scored - yes those rare occasions - his thread would be bumped by his fan boys bemoaning his sale and stating that Falcao is worse. Yes, Falcao was a donkey and wasn’t the answer but neither was Welbeck. It’s the same thing here, Ole probably isn’t the answer but feck me, neither was Jose. Just because one might potentially be more shite than the other, doesn’t change anything.

These lot really are embarrassing bunch.

Their master only had half a billion to spend.
Yeah but we would have won the league with Perisic and Willian. You know, two players barely rated by their own fans.

I'm not suggesting he should be in charge, I'm just of agreement with the complaints he had about the club. Both him and now Ole was/are deserving a sacking.

Mourinho would have given us a fighting chance, regardless of 3rd season meltdown. Becoming clearer and clearer with every passing week that Eddy the Knob's stupidity killed us, and continues to drive us into the ground.

He was right but he also wasted £300m trying to fix the problems. Shouldn’t really forget that.
Fair enough.
But another thing that we should not forget is that last season we finished 2nd 19 points behind City.
This season we finished 6th behind Arsenal and 32 points behind City.
Yes he made mistakes and yes his behaviour was dreadful at the end.
But having sacked him we haven't even stopped the slide.
32 points for goodness sake.
Talk about a mountain to climb. We haven't even got out of the valley.

Nah Mourinho was done. He'd lost the changing room and us making a change was definitely the right move. I just don't think we made the right decision with Ole.

Mourinho is an excellent pundit though and one of the few people in the game I can't help but admire.

Only for 60+ mil each to give a grand total of 2 maybe 3 decent seasons. They still think those 2 30 year olds were the missing pieces of the United puzzle while ignoring all the trash he kept and bought, lets not forget lumping it to the big football.

Truly special followers jose has.

Him getting to second with this team was the closest we will get to either City or Liverpool in the near future. Mourinho was far from perfect and made lots of appalling decisions but was right on many things as well.
He made it very clear recently that getting second was his best achievement not just because of the players but but because of the leadership hierarchy managing the football and undermining him at every turn.

It's a simple equation:
Season 1 cup double 2nd fewest goals allowed in league
Season 2 fa cup final, a distant second place
Season 3 meltdown

Jose Mourinho's meltdowns occur when there is conflict with the club executive or owner and player power.

He was, until City won the league today, the MOST trophied 'active' manager in the world of football.

Mourinho's on a lot people's bad side from his Chelsea days. You can question his style of play and whether it fits United long term as much as you want, but to choose to pander to the player power over such a successful manager was crazy. So much whining here about him throwing players under the bus because everyone else fell into the Woodward trap of knowing better than the most successful manager and serial winner around at the time. He may have been an ugly style and insufferable fella, but nobody here knows better than him. Simple as. Not only that, it was a clear case of fans siding with underperforming players. Where did you lot learn that? (Others, not you @Kostov) Following United for three decades taught me that if a successful man manager wants to reshuffle to bring order back in the dressing room, you go with it. It's the same as in any sort of management in real life. If your best employee is petulant, causing unrest in the group, you have to get rid. We did it with Stam, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy levels of talent. And then Pogba the first time. That same player is at the root of things (supposedly) and people flock to his support. The moment he posted they picture of himself with the wry smile, you knew the decision was the wrong one. But it's not just that. Extending Martials contract. Refusing a Croatian wide man (did you see how bloody narrow we were today losing to a relagated side!?!?). Apparently fat shaming a kids dad (likely Barca propaganda but it's damning that nobody from the club has denied something so foul yet). And then as simple as laughing at the man (Jose) for saying Ole's start was great but we should wait to judge. You lot called him bitter and jealous. Then Idiot Woodward went one better and hired him!

The greatest way to lead is to know when someone is smarter than you and to listen to them. When it comes to football at this club the last three years that was Jose. Should have listened and let him have his way. We would have at worst, come out as extremely gritty bunch and hard to beat and score against. A foundation onto which you'd then be able to addd the United flair and attacking endeavor, even if it was a new manager a few years down the line. But to have scapegoated him, giving these same players more power...hah we are up shit creek. Even Ole has changed his tune overnight from "I know these players from academy. We have a great bunch. Lots of quality" to "most of them won't be here next season."

I'm so feckin bitter with rage. And to think I was even second guessing my Mourinho sympathisizing.

I know but I just feel what he said was stating the obvious. Not you, but plenty of the Jose fan boys always try make out everyone else was totally blinded to the rest of the problems at the club. Thing is, that’s a false narrative and most acknowledged that it was Jose and plenty of others that were the problem, not just Jose.

The problem with these blinded fans is they see everyone else as the problem and not Jose. It’s irrational bias at it’s very best.

If you’ve not come to the realization that any manager we have may need to buy up to 10 new players to improve our situation, you’re not understanding how bad our situation is.
Ahh, the delusion of thinking that we're a top draw, and that we can get anyone we want. Forget elite world class players, which we've almost never been able to pry away from going to Real Madrid or Barcelona, we can't even attract ELITE players on simply the merit and stature of the club. We attract them the same way City used to, with bags full of money thrown at them.

Look at who we signed. Look at who we are. Look at those signings. We had to sign someone, the team was a mess, but did you actually think looking at any of of those signings, that they were United caliber from the Fergie era? No, they are all project players, maybe with potential, or they are squad players at best?

Where is our Rio signing? Our Carrick signing? Our Rooney signing? Our Vidic signing? Not a single player outside of Pogba measures up to that level, not one. Where are those players going now? Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, and now Liverpool. We're not a destination for footballing success, we're a destination for money.

Mourinho signed 10 players? He needed to sign 10 more, and then 10 more, and then 10 more, until he got us a Rooney, a Rio, a Vidic, a Carrick, because the team right now is a shower of shit and almost the entire thing needs to be replaced, top to bottom. If he doesn't sign players, he isn't making progress, even if they are not the standard we need. and you'd blame him for "HE DIDN'T SIGN ANYONE TO REPLACE YOUNG AND VALENCIA?!?!?!" So he takes a gamble, and if it pays off, great, if it doesn't "LOOK HOW SHIT HIS SIGNINGS ARE LOLOL F MOURINHO".

Mourinho wasn't the problem. The players are, and Mourinhos head exploded at how absolutely fecked this team is and the state of our players.

Appointing Jose was the only mistake. He's very much part of this modern breed of spoiled brat players/managers who work for their own gain and nothing else.

You look at 30 year old Sanchez sitting on the bench with his pot-belly sticking out, admiring his online property portfolio on his phone while the game goes on in front of him. The same manager that begged for Sanchez, also begged to have vast fortunes spent on other over-the-hill 30 year olds in Perisic and Willian.

You compare that bit of business to 25 year old Lucas Moura on £80,000 a week at Spurs. 26 year old Heung-Min Son on £140,000 a week, Eriksen on £75,000 a week.

You look over at Liverpool, 27 year old Mane on £90,000 a week. 26 year old Mo Salah on £200,000 a week.

I think Mourinho is a brilliant motivator, but as a manager he's an overrated bullshitter who has been found out. His methods only work at clubs who can outspend the rest of the league by 3 times over, and who's fans who don't mind watching hundreds of millions worth of talent parking the bus most weeks.

This is not José vs Ole.

Jose was absolutely right, the squad needed major investment, from the back to the front.

It didn’t work for José, he was given the backing from the board and then had his backing taken away from him when he needed it most, last summer.

Ole has come in, and Ole hasn’t been good enough. He can’t motivate the team, he’s endured the worst run in recent history, worse than Moyes.

The squad is in pieces, the board is a mess, Ole isn’t experienced enough. It’s a real mess

I'm right with you man. The most mental thing was that Mourinho, because of his reputation, had every single comment he made flung back against him, twisted, over analysed, used as a way to show that he's in the wrong. He'd make a harmless comment and you'd have multiple pages on here discussing how he seemed unhappy while making it. And now we also know that a lot of the shit talking he did was pretty justified.

The genius had no answer to mighty Sevilla though. The genius got outgeniused by Montella when he brought on Ben Yedder, and Jose/United couldnt t cope. His plan A Fellaini didnt work against them, there was no plan B. Great stuff, would love to know what the genius would have to say. He didnt see that coming.

Not to mention frauding the SF of EL via a Guidetti miss. Literally saved his neck.

Mourinho wasn't the biggest problem, but he was a problem. So was LvG and so was Moyes. Both manager and players can be to blame, doesn't have to be one or the other.

Jose doesn’t do contract negotiations, that’s on Woodward and his negotiating team. Jose gave the names, that it.

The fact that United conceded double is a blight on the manager more than anyone else. The fact that none of our players actually improved under his tutelage is also an issue and a reason why he shouldn't have been backed and should have been sacked way sooner.
Do you believe the team (on average) played better under Ole then under mourinho? Yes there was a good spell and real momentum a few months ago but one loss collapsed the momentum and players played as bad (or even worse) under Ole then under Mourinho.

Im not here to defend Mourinho. I am trying (emphasis on trying) to approach this objectively and sensible. There is nothing wrong in acknowledging that mourinho was right in requesting a defender, considering how this season played out. This is just one of the reasons it started to go downhill from there. You have the pre season debacle, no backing of defenders, incompetency from the board (signing Sanchez) which all contributed to the current state of affairs at United. Take in account as well that the players just stopped playing. There was an ‘excuse’ under Mourinho, but what is the ‘excuse’ from the several
playerss under Ole, who showed them
patience and praising them every moment during that good spell.

Its a mess now and this will take years to build up.

The reputation definitely did him in. That Ole is saying much the same things, albeit with a little less bite, is doing me in of late. Going to be a long summer and couple years.

Jose was right that the organisation at Utd wasn't right, he needed someone to help him handle the modern footballers. Woodward has been promising a DoF for over 18 months now and there's been feck all movement on the matter.

Jose was right the defense wasn't capable (to be fair the fans knew that at least 5 or 6 years ago). Last season we let in 28 goals, this season we let in 54, the worst in the top six and even Wolves, Everton, Leicester and Newcastle let in less.

It amazes me that we actually scored less goals this season, but even then still scored more than Chelsea, and only 2 less that Spurs, but our defense is so bad we've fallen short. I feel even one defensive buy during the summer (Varane, Maguire, Alderweireld, whoever) would have gotten us enough of an improvement defensively to get that top 4 spot. Instead Woodward dicked about and had a barney with the manager instead.

Our points tally last season, when apparently we played atrocious football under an atrocious manager, would have easily got us third this season.

We were 19 points off and 1 place behind the title last season. Even though the points tally to win the Prem this year was lower, we've still managed to be behind by 32 points and 5 places this season.

We've changed players, we've changed managers, we've changed style of play, and none of it's worked. The only consistent thing during the misery has been Woodward. Surely it's obvious where the fault lies.

Jose' attitude sucks. It was disgusting. He was right about some things, and wrong about others. Glad he is gone, but Ole unfortunately is not proving to be great replacement. Wtf happened after that magical spell, no one knows. The team went from being majestic to being mediocre over night. Why!? That is the question. Ole's can't handle pressure and exceptions and it translated to the team!?

Calm down. I've never said he didn't fail at United.

He's still a good manager, very smart for his own good. That's what I'm saying. He just can't find his place in modern football.

Did he lose the changing room or did the changing room quit on Mourinho? Did Ole lose the changing room or did the team quit on Ole? In my opinion, Mourinho should have been backed after finishing second, with the highest points total post Sir Alex. The players he pointed out are the same players who are just strolling around now, under a new manager, who continuously praised them every moment during that good spell. Take in account that the team also conceded almost double as much goals as the previous season (which can justify people’s argument that Mourinho should have been backed by the board for a defender).

Absolutely justified.
Jose has a big ego. He loves to hear his own voice.
Jose is a control freak and when he sees incompetence and lack of professionalism affecting his control he lashes out. Manchester United knew this when they appointed him. The way he operates isn't a mystery.
Jose has been and still is a fantastically successful manager. He knows how to win and he knows what is necessary to win.
All of these are true.

If he is classified as a failure at Manchester United despite being easily the most successful since SAF then it is because the club failed him.
All of that is true.

I get the impression he did lose the dressing room but I also think he was doing a lot of things on purpose. Mourinho's a smart guy so I assume he knows when to be petulant and when not to be. I really do think he wanted out after the board refused to back him that Summer, and in hindsight I don't blame him.

Absolute shite manager who played turd football and has somehow managed to manipulate the fan base.

He spent so much money rebuilding this team and buying complete shite like Lukaku, Matic, Baily, Sanchez and then had the nerve to blame the management for not spending enough money. This man didn’t know his best team in his 3rd season, didn’t have a style of play, was disrespectful to the club with silly press conferences and lost half of the dressing room. Not to forget he also whored himself to PSG in his second season.

Meanwhile managers such as Poch, Klopp have done a terrific job while spending similar or less amount

So in short fk off Jose.

People constantly forget how he praised most of these players at one point or another, and got no consistency out of them. He tried everything. I mean, what's these players' excuse now? How many managers do they not like or enjoy?

And all this talk of Jose being backed and spending all the money; why was he not backed after there was a progression of results in the first two seasons? He delivered CL football and trophies, did he not? Pep did nothing in his first year with a vastly superior squad, made some bad purchases, and was continuously backed. Klopp still hasn't won anything and has been backed continuously. I guess this is what happens when football decisions are made by dilettantes who succumb to fan pressure and have no long term strategy.

I don't really get your question, this has nothing to do with Mourinho and Ole isn't supposed to be a particularly good coach, he has no decent track record.

When you judge Mourinho, you judge him, you don't judge Ole or your neighbour. Also we went for defenders, we went for Boateng and he said no, we went for Godin and he said no, we went for Maguire and Leicester asked for a stupid fee. The backing narrative is bullshit, it's just a way to hide the fact that outside of badly playing at Football Manager Mourinho has been highly incompetent as the manager of Manchester United. He was wank on the training pitch and that alone isn't forgivable when you are paid 15m per year which is supposed to mirror his abilities as a manager.

In a way it's simple, Mourinho has done exactly what Ancelotti did with Bayern, they failed and it happens. People should accept it and move on.
