I agree. United at this moment dont look very attractive. It doesnt mean they are not, but missing out on champions league football will hurt you massively.

I think you need to start again. I would sell De Gea. Not because of his mistakes, but simply the fact he can still command a high price, would save on wages and bring a freshness to the squad. If the players knew they would have to work for result rather than rely on De Gea to "superman" it.

Kasper Schmeichel would be a perfect replacement. It makes total sense, son of the former hero of united and a quality keeper as well.

Jamie Vardy could be another good short term replacement. Experience of the PL and he gets stuck in as well so could offer some fight up front.

Nathan Redmond is another very good player. Player of the season for Southampton and would probably jump at the chance of joining united.

I think OGS has hit the nail on the head, which will be hard for many supporters to accept, you are a top 4 team at best these days. All the people saying that they would rather Liverpool finish second than united get top 4 are deluding themself, we as Liverpool supporters know this best, we did it for years before we realised we are mid-table material if anything. Top 4 becomes the target, as it is the only way to move your squad on.

I think OGS is the man to do it. He knows you need players who will at least put in a shift, and he has seen first hand at United those who are too self important for this kind of "labour", and you will see many of them leave. His experience will get him players of the hard working types as well as talented, he will give the youth a shot in the team and get rid of the egos.

You dont want any marquee signings in your current situation, because like Liverpool, you will soon lose them when a Champions League club comes sniffing.
I was thinking myself about the parallels between the situation at United now, and that at Liverpool after about 1990. I remember the underachieving 'Spice Boys' team - white suits and runners up medals at the cup final - and see a lot of similarities between them and our current bunch.

It's also instructive to look at the current Liverpool team. They have a marked absence of egos and, while some of the players possibly merit the 'superstar' tag, what is more striking is the way they work together as a team. Most of the players in the team have either made or enhanced their reputations at Liverpool (as opposed to being imported as the ready made article), including some who have come through the ranks.

I'd be very happy to see zero marquee signings this summer.

Good try. We signed better players when we had a worse team. And I understand rival fan's interest to keep Ole in the job but in reality he is not the man to take us forward . Enjoy your peak while you can because teams are only going to get better :)

Imagine if we did sign Vardy and kept Pogba, Along with Lingard we'd have 3 of the most smackable faces in world football on our team.

Koulibaly seems to be headed our way and we'll try and pass him off as World Class and 'we beat Madrid and Barca' to his signing!

I'm certain we are the sole bidders for G Baz at a fee of about 120m. We are that stupid.

I think we will sell Pogba and spend big on Koulibaly, which could improve our overall game massively.

Imagine a front 3 next year of Sanchez, Lukaku and Bale.

Real look like they've got a ton of has-beens and deadwood they want to shift. We're one of the few clubs rich enough and stupid enough to take them, so take your pick.

ETA: How's this for a Woodward Dream XI?

Sanchez----Lukaku-----Bale

Pogba------Matic------Kroos

Shaw----Smalling----Jones---Young

---------------De Gea-------------
Yup that's what Woodward dreams off and that team would seriously of challenged about 3 or 4 years ago.

Raiola himself, for our left wing. Will probably cover more distance than Martial anyways.

It shows how important it is for teams to keep that turnover of players up and to be utterly ruthless in getting rid of players who are over the hill or just don't fit into the team any more.

There won't be a marquee signing. We're done with that strategy. We'll sign good youngsters.
Who is "We"? Because as far as I am concerned, what me, you and Ole want may vary from what Don Ed Woodward wants. You really think Woodward will pass on a big name attraction whom he can boast about to sponsors on how we are still able to attract top players despite being out of the CL?

Don't see how the two are linked, but agree on Koulibaly improving us, would rather keep Pogba as well though.
They are not linked by anything other than money. We are not going to have a net spend of 300 mill this summer, and we have a lot of areas that need improvement. Without any big sales, I don't see us spending 100 mill on Koulibaly. However, if we can bring in 150 mill by selling Pogba, we can sign Koulibaly as well as a direct Pogba replacement (Bruno Fernandes?) for that kind of money. This leaves the rest of our transfer budget to bring in a RB, CM and RW.

In addition, this may help us save the wage structure of the club. By selling Alexis and Pogba, our best paid player will be De Gea at 200 k/week, which is almost half of Alexis. Give De Gea a contract extension with the same salary that he has today, which will compensate for his reduced wages due to lack of CL next season, and offer Koulibaly a salary slightly below that.

I don’t think Woodward will be able to resist signing Bale. Madrid aren’t going to pay Bale 30m a year to sit in their reserves, may well even be a loan deal.

Knowing Ed he’ll still manage to get a bad deal and Madrid will come away laughing.
