Gary Neville meets Patrice Evra to discuss the state of Manchester United
  • Spirit and passion for the club is lacking
  • Said few players don't even know why they are here
  • Lack leadership in the dressing room
  • Apart from Pogba and De Gea none of them are good enough to play for Madrid, Bayern, Juventus
  • Said Sanchez only signed for money.
  • Fans are killing Pogba citing the fan incident after Cardiff.
  • Thinks Pogba will leave, said when you have negativity around you, you should leave
  • Ruled himself out for any role at Manutd
  • We have to appoint right DoF, don't want Manutd to become like Milan, Liverpool, Arsenal to wait many years to get back to the top.
  • Future doesn't look bright.

Scathing. And understandably so.

Agree the bit about Pogba - after that clip I saw, I wouldn't blame him for wanting to leave.

Ole needs to impress upon all current and future players what United is all about, the club's history and legacy

The fans abusing Pogba were stupid but if Pogba's expecting the fans of Madrid will continue cheering for him every times then he's also wrong. The madrid crowd is one of the harshest fans in the world.

Gareth Bale is a very good example for him.

That Real crowd might break him if he's not mentally prepared for what they'll do to him.

They booed Ronaldo. They are vicious.

Completely agree. But Madrid fans hate on their team for playing badly. Then the team goes on to win a few games, a couple of trophies, and all is well in the world again.

Not necessarily true though. They booed Ronaldo who has a decent claim of being their best ever player.

So... exactly like our fans?
No, they are far more harsh on their players. They kind of understand their players are playing for money and not for love, unlike our fans who think Pogba, Ronaldo, etc. played here for love.

They boo Ronaldo after he's achieved so much with them and stayed for that long, and our fans still sing Ronaldo's name every game.

People need to listen to his words about Pogba.

If we let Pogba go we will regret it and we will only go from bad to worse. We need to ensure we do everything we can to keep him.

The fans for some reason have taken the side of Sourness and Mourinho when it comes to Pogba and I cannot see why. He has never been the type to drag a team over the line so we shouldn't be expecting that.

He creates and he scores and he does them both in abundance, we need to build around him.

Like the bit saying he was beat 4-1 by liverpool and the united fans still cheered the team. Now he sees fans swearing at the players showing theyve had enough

Don't think we need to do that and I would suggest that not doing that is getting the best out of United.

Pogba just needs better players around him because that's what any club should aim for. The club also needs to get the best out of their players so that the whole side is elevated. Getting someone like Ndidi for example would not mean getting the best out of Pogba, but of United.

There's this narrative that we need to cater to him when in reality every club does this because they want their side to have the best chemistry on the pitch. Juve did it while Conte was there and it wasn't due to Pogba. They did it because the side as a whole is better off for it. Pogba complimented Vidal and Pirlo, just like Vidal complimented Pogba, and Vidal complimented Pirlo. Modern sides prefer a CB that is left footed to take the LCB position because it compliments the side, not because they need to cater to a specific player, but because they should be doing that for the betterment of the club.

I've grown to see the narrative that a side catered to 1 specific player as nonsense. Every club wants the best pieces to fit the puzzle as a whole.

A great example, a better who's won them stuff and scored big goals, nowadays they really hate him. The grass isn't always greener

Surprisingly spot on in his assessment of the club.
Evra is crazy but he's always been fair in his assessments, so not really a surprise

"Paul's the best goalscorer"

Do United fans really, truly, honestly rate Pogba this much for scoring his penalties? Other than that the guy has basically scored against Chelsea + Fulham, Huddersfield, Bournemouth.

At least he called out Sanchez, even if he did skate over Ed/The Glazers
Yeah. I understand what Evra's saying about the board, that without knowing about it from the inside it's hard to comment, and that Evra and Gary know some of the players' situations and can appraise what they've seen on the pitch. Let's be honest you can't really talk about the problems at this club without putting the owners and the board front and centre but Evra and Gary can't speak with authority about that side.

You want me to kill people, eh? I'll be honest; I haven't spoken to people from the board deeply about this, Ed Woodward or the Glazers. Who is picking the players? Is it the board or the manager? That's my real question. Did Mourinho want Sanchez badly? Or was it just Ed? -- Patrice Evra
This is the nub of it isn't it? Is the manager actually assembling the team. Mourinho said he was a head coach not a manager. Did Mourinho really make the call to renew Rojo's contract? Did Ole do the deals for Young, Smalling and Jones' next deals?

If the manager isn't actually in control of the team how can he have any real authority? The players can just down tools whenever they want knowing the board will back them not the coach.

Is it a great assessment though? He just kind criticises the club generally without going into any specifics or offering any solutions other than get a DOF and "the club must return to the good old days". He doesn't have anything new to say really, it's all been heard before from the multitude of ex United players turned pundits.

His take on the Pogba situation is bollocks as well I think. I don't mind Paul, I think fans are generally idiots, but the idea that they carry even an ounce of blame for this whole thing, is nonsense. He got booed at OT, after an abysmal season, not a great thing, generally a bit shitty from the fans, but he's the face of the team and apparently one of the leaders in the dressing room, there's not a club in Europe where that wouldn't happen. It would probably help if he wasn't involved in tha pogfeelings debacle, with Mourinho, Pogba, Raiola, Woodward and those same ex United players turned pundits, at the beginning of the season. Or if he was a bit more consistent. This feeling love bullshit is genuinely insulting.

Every single cnut that ever wore a United shirt has his take on the current United struggles and none of them are particularly insightful (bar possibly Fletcher, I think I'm remembering liking his spiel). Granted they're given a platform by the media and it makes them money, so fair enough, but I genuinely hope they don't think they're helpful to the club in any way, shape of form.

Surely Paddy sees the difference though?

We had a bad day against Liverpool in 2009 but we were reigning champions of England Europe and the World at that time! Everyone's allowed a bad day and that team was very special which produced countless happy memories for Utd fans.

This has been 6 shit years and this season in particular which has been disgraceful. We won 2 of our last 13 games! I think it's more than fair enough the fans are fecking sick of it and angry at these players.

Do you all know fans have abuse Gary Neville before after a game against Middlesbrough? Does fans forget this things or choose to ignore so they can pander their narrative?

Except it's not his job is it?

City and Liverpool's front players are leading the charts but we moan that a midfielder only scores against poor sides?

Jesus that's depressing. I didn't expect so much criticism from Evra. Really shows the state we're in

Real have high standards so people know to expect there. We abuse Pogba while cheering the likes of Danny Welbeck MK2 and Ashley Young. That can piss off a player whose way better then the fan favourite's tripe.

Not often you see former players who are still so closely connected to various people at the club give such a good interview, giving his honest and hard opinion on everything. Respect.

Yeah I can agree with this, good post.

Still think letting Pogba go will be detrimental to us.

No i would say he is expecting Madrid to challenge for trophies and thats all that matters. I doubt players care too much about the fans reactions so long as the general trend is that they keep winning.

Isn't it? What is his job then? All of Liverpools midfield have to defend hard but we don't expect that of Pogba either.

Oh get off it. Real fans have booed their players for a million different reasons. You think they abused Ronaldo because he's not good enough to reach their standards? What kind of logic is that?

This was in context of the Evra interview where he sort of alluded that Pogba will leave due to fan reactions towards him.

Whilst to some degree he’s right about Pogba - he’s too closely involved with him to take what he says seriously about Paul. On everything else he’s bang on the money.

They boo for what they perceive to be a decline to their ridiculously high expectations. We've got very low expectations and tend to cheer everyone like sheep (Moyes, Jones, Young etc) which makes this booing worse.

He’s very close with Pogba so if he says he thinks he will go, it’s probably as good a source as we will get. Pogba will need to change agents though due to Mino’s ban, so it’ll drag out until the end of the window, no doubt.

His assessments were spot on. I’d love for Pat to get a role in the club because he’s so passionate about our team. He’s probably more suited to the DOF role than Fletcher (but I’d have neither if it were my choice)!

That fan interaction sounds like a nice excuse to hide behind. If he wasn't looking to leave I bet he just ignores the fan and moves on.
