AFCON lasts 3/4 weeks assuming your country wins, 5 max if you train with your country before hand.
There's no Champions League games, usually there's a 4/5th round of the FA CUP & a League Cup quarter final or so, it's hardly crunch time of the season, and certainly shouldn't be used as a reason not to select a player who would be eligible for the AFCON. That's just a lazy excuse imo.
Afcon has decimated many a club and its title aspirations. Just look at Liverpool desperately clinging on to Top 4 when with Mané that would have been done and dusted by now.

Chelsea and Arsenal have suffered badly before. When competing for honours, that one month understrength can make all the difference. You can be pretty damn sure it's a consideration in transfer policy. It would be negligent not to.

At that time in Liverpool's season, they depended solely on Mane pretty much, that's their fault for not finding adequate squad cover to replace him.
Chelsea had one of the greatest PL strikers in Drogba, but he's also fiercely proud to play for his country.
Would you turn down the opportunity to sign Drogba because he would disappear for 1 month every 2 years? Same to be said for Yaya Toure. Arsenal haven't won anything of real note in over a decade, that's not down to AFCON.
And it's not like clubs aren't aware of when the tournament comes or caught off guard either, they have plenty of time to get replacements to fill in when the tournament comes.

Like I said, it's a lazy excuse.

He has been absolutely brilliant this season. Leicester will do well to hold onto him past the summer.

Can't say I was impressed whenever I watched him, which was about 5 times. But yeah, apparently he's doing very well.

Seems to be more interest in ascertaining whether he has a brother called Ohyes.

Seen him a few times and don't think he's good enough or what we would require.

But obviously young and is making a good career for himself.

He's been excellent today. Very good reading of the game, excellent positioning, calm on the ball.

I take it the general consensus on the Caf is this guy is over rated?
I think he's a bit underrated when you consider the hype around the likes of Neves and Rice and they are all of a similar age. Apparently recovered possession more times than anyone else. He's no Pogba on the ball but he definitely tries to pass forward more than guys like Gueye and Rice, and he is IMO a better ball carrier than both. If the plan is to play a 4231 he could be a solid addition as one of the two holders.

And to add to this he has a serious engine on him, he's the type of player that will run his b*ll*cks off until the final whistle. Does the simple things very well which I really like.

Could also stick him behind Pogba and another creator in a single pivot

He’s an interesting one alright. I have to admit he looked like some sort of mixture of Vieira and Kante against City. Was immense.
He has been very good this season, his defensive/breakup play has been exceptional. He is six feet plus & fairly good in the air but his passing game still needs some work. At 22 years old he is a bona fide talent who will only improve with good coaching. I'm not sure that United are ready to take on a young player who is not a finished product.

He is currently much better than Neves or Rice.

There's surely some players on our radar at the African Cup of nations. Though performances overall haven't reflected it (especially at recent wc) , a lot of North African countries have looked impressive in recent tournaments especially in terms of work rate and energy. Morocco, Algeria, Egypt I've enjoyed seeing. The Premier league has suited many African players too or players of African origin and at the risk of stereotyping many seem to be good professionals.

Nah I like him. Wouldn’t mind getting him this Summer - good defensively and very nimble on the ball .. ideal for the deeper role in modern game.

He is very good player, defensively he is very good and decent on the ball. Doubt he will leave Leicester though.

Get him to shield the defense. At that point the midfield will be sorted with defending (Ndidi) and creating (Pogba). The final touch would be a player who can be a constant pass recipient due to being great technically, and also a constant passer. Basically a guy that is going to run the show with their passing. Groom Gomes for that role.

If Ndidi gets hurt, groom TFM for his destroyer role.

Ndidi would be cheap compared to Rice. Only 22 years old as well so he fits in with the younger group of players.

Superb player and, like Tielemans, exactly the sort of player we need to bring in for a rebuild. An upgrade on our current CM options by some way.
If Leicester keep hold of their midfield and buy well, they will definitely be in the top 6 next season. Maybe too 4.
Best midfield outside of the top 2 if you ask me.

Is Tielsman a big upgrade? Why is he on loan at Leicester?

Important to keep in perspective his age and role. De Jong for example only broke out this season at age 21. Tielemans was 21 for all of the season. Personally I'm a fan of grooming Gomes for this role, but Tielemans is the better option right now. Not sure right now is the time to buy though.

My bad. I was trying to suggest that Ndidi is an upgrade and I’d say he is - easily based on this past season performances.
Tielemans is an interesting player and I’ve watched him enough to see he would walk into our midfield too (he’s walked through it enough times already!!)

Good player. He would considerably improve us, but then again anyone would. I think he is the type of player we need, somebody not too higher profile but still good enough to do a good job for the team.

He looks like a far better player than Rice, and won't have the English premium.

I would be surprised if Leicester sell, unless he asks to leave. Ndidi is more important for us than Tielemans.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
To those that watch Leicester more than just a few times, who is better between Ndidi and Choudhury? The latter has looked impressive the times I've seen Leicester recently.

Everybody else is talking about literally every other midfielder they have but no mention of him.

Wilfred Ndidi.

Am I the only one who thinks this young lad is on his way to becoming a super player? He's not going about it like one of those obviously immensely talented young lads out there but like one of those payers who suddenly emerge as outstanding one day and you are wondering how come he wasn't getting all the attention before.

I will happily have this guy at United in place of Fellaini and as a squad player. He is energetic, comfortable on the ball (he started out as a striker), has some long distance rockets in his boots (strikes frequently from distance and once scored a screamer from long range that was voted the goal of the season in Belgium), plays in midfield but can also play across the back line, he's tall and good in the air, he's a great ball winner, he has very decent passing ability and he's younger than Kane, Alli and Sane (so he has a long career ahead of him).
Nobody is talking about him because there are better players that United can attract.

Define what you want with better players? Are they better at being a destroyer? Because we need more of that considering we have Pogba. On the other hand, if Pogba leaves then that changes things.

He tied with Gueye for most tackles in the league, a category that Gueye has been leading for a few seasons now. First it was Kante that was on par and now Ndidi is showing his promise. I reckon he will stay at Leicester for a wee bit though. Rodgers can make them into quite the nice little team. It’s a shame for them that Vardy is going to decline soon as I can honestly see them as very strong top 6 challengers.
