Given how finished (not just shite) he has looked (factor in his last six months for Arsenal in that too), I'm surprised anyone half ambitious would be interested in him.
The same rules apply when you went looking for other jobs, reputation will stick for a long time.

He might be shite in United shirt, but he can still turn it around if luck and environment is right for him.

This would possibly be the best start to our summer campaign!Throw Lukaku and Darmian into the equation and we should be able to leverage some good exchange deals too.

Juventus have the history though, Pirlo, Tevez looked so much fresh and like playing at their peak when they played for Juventus.

It used to be the same at United, older players would thrive. The probable reason is load work management, Juventus and the former United used to not rely on single players but rotate and keep everyone fresh.

Agree with the general point about work load management but there was something else at Juventus. Both Pirlo and Tevez played so many games, Tevez for 2 seasons and Pirlo for first 3 seasons.

Also helps with the rest of the squad who no longer have a 400k a week player on the bench to compare their own wages with when they make demands!
It really should not concern any of them. They are all overpaid for the service they offer. Feck them, let them go and see what they can get at another club for a change.

For Pirlo the role that he played wasn't about athleticism and he wasn't done with Milan, he had a fallout with Allegri, if I remember correctly. While Tevez has always been a great athlete, he wasn't particularly old and played roughly the same amount of minutes he used to play for City, also Tevez has barely been injured in his career, it would have been strange if he fell of a cliff at 29-31 years old.

Personally would get rid of Sanchez free just to get his wages off the books.
I agree. But what a disaster signing.

Here for 17 months = £28m in wages. Plus Mkhitaryan, say £17m today.
Total Sanchez cost = £45m.
Total Sanchez return = Almost zero. £45m down the drain.

Pirlo was poor in last 1-2 seasons before he left Milan and also had contract issues. He wasn't physically done as even at Milan it was performance rather than struggling physically. Tevez was around same age as Sanchez, both had sort of same style and if i'm not wrong both had good injury record. Tevez wasn't as good for City in last 2 seasons as he was for Juventus, maybe because of so many other factors too. I was implying the form of both players improved so much at Juventus.

I won't be surprised if Sanchez starts playing well for Juventus. They are very good club who gets so many things spot on.

Given we refused to budge over our valuation for Darmian last summer I have no faith we'll just write off Sanchez's 'worth'

In terms of form I totally agree, I thought that you were talking about fitness. I guess that being in a positive environment is the most important thing when it comes to form, from a general and individual standpoint. People often use the "system dependent player" as a knock against them but it's the job of the coaching staff to create that system that gets the best out of players, it's also a way to get bargains by taking someone else's misfits and making them fit with you.

No, not fitness. It's very hard to improve the physically past it players in terms of fitness. i was talking about their performance and form.

Agree with rest of your post. We should create that atmosphere where players play best football and also system to fit the players better and get much more than sum of their parts.

Those figures are completely shocking. I thought at the time by paying Alexis that much money that it was going to cause problems as every player who thinks he is as good as him is going to want similar wages. Although I thought at the time we were going to get some decent performances from him. £45 for goals is pathetic and a calamitous decision by Woody. The bit in bold is spot on.

Ed's made some dubious decisions over the past 6 years but this was hardly his fault. In some situations, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. This place was creaming itself at the prospect of signing Sanchez last January and I don't think anyone could have predicted his sudden decline in form.

At least, he turned up at the Etihad last year. Plus. we'll always have this:

It's beyond me how Sanchez can dig his heels in and continue to ask for ridiculous money from other clubs just because we have been paying it to him for a season. I mean, surely, he understands that United regrets this decision deeply and that no other club will pay him anywhere close to his asking rate. He can either be a baby and stay here and not play another entire season, or take a wage cut and try to rebuild his reputation in another league.

With Alexis sitting on an annual salary of 26 mill pounds, i.e. 29.75 mill euros, I don't see how this deal can possibly go through without us still paying Alexis a lot for the rest of his original contract with us. Inter recently signed Godin on a free transfer, and with an annual salary of 6.75 mill euros he is becomming their best paid player ahead of Icardi (4.5 mill) and Handanovic (2.85 mill). Even if Alexis cut his wage in half, we would probably have to pay 10 mill annualy for a player that is permanently removed from the club.

Of course it’s a concern. If you were working alongside a guy at your job, but he only turned up one day a week and was a bit shit, and you worked harder than him at the same job, you’d be a bit pissed off that he was earning twice as much as you.

I agree with the part in bold. I was looking forward to the Sanchez signing and I thought that he was going to turn out well and at the time it seemed like a sensible decision, so I can understand the decision to sign him and I also agree his decline in form could not be foreseen. Some transfers work and others don't and that is just the way it is. I think by paying him him so much money was either a very naive or even stupid decision, which paved the way for players like Pogba supposedly asking for £500,000 a week just because Sanchez is getting mega money.

Yeah, there's no other choice but to let him go now - even for free, just to get rid of the insane contract he was given. But as others already pointed out, I'm 90% sure that Sanchez will rediscover his old Barca/Arsenal self at Juventus and play wonderfully while collecting less than half the money we gave him. Meaning we'll look like fools again. Serie A is a much slower league suited for his technical playstyle plus Juventus have model professional veterans like CR7 or Chiellini who will kick his ass if he tries to slack off.

Our dressing room lacks such characters, the only leader is Paul Pogba but he's too light-hearted to bully anyone.

First off, Alexis's workrate doesn't seem a problem to me. Whenever he plays he puts as much effort as the other if not more. Effort is not the problem with him. Injuries this season has been the biggest issue in my opinion.

Secondly, if I was as shit/average at my job and still earn bucket loads of money like say the Lingard, Jones, Rojo, Young and even the likes of Rashford and Martial, I'd keep my mouth shut and look in my plate. We have so many players on enormous wages and they are not deserving it, basically anyone can use an example of another player and it would go on forever. It's on the club to say it, take it or feck off.

Now, you can be held hostage by players of the ilk of Ronaldo or Messi, but not average cloggers who would struggle to earn half what they do here. Of course you have Herrera and now he reportedly earns 300k a week which puts PSG in basically the same situation like us with Alexis, Herrera might turn up just as shit for them.

What?

This would be addition by subtraction. It's a no-brainer if someone actually wants him.
Yep! At the moment we can sort of convince a buyer that he's just not had any luck at United and changing managers has affected him coming in and out of the team. One more season here and we're stuck with him, no one will come asking about him next summer.

We should try and get a transfer fee of around £10m for Sanchez and agree to just give him it to help get him off our books.

Hopefully that would go a long way to supplement any drop in wages he’s likely to take, and let him get playing football again.

A whole week without updates. That's another 400K.

He is my absolute muppet dream this summer, in a summer where I dream most about seeing players shifted.

I’m gonna clutch at straws and hope that we wouldn’t be so daft. Last summer Darmian still had some value to us, and when Valencia got injured we had no choice but to keep him. Sanchez offers literally nothing, I’m hoping the club realise that.

If we somehow get rid of both Sanchez and Lukaku, it would be an immense boost to our finances. Would free up a big chunk of our wage bill. We need to start thinking about bad scenarios in which sponsors offer less money on renewing their deals and having such a high wage bill is unsustainable for the club unless we get back to the top really quick.

Even though it was mostly attributable to an adjustment to deferred tax because of a change in USA taxation, we did make a loss during the last financial year.

Terrible signing but I don't have any issues that we went for him. In hindsight there were some signs there but generally most of us were elated - same goes for players like Di Maria and Depay.

As much as I enjoy us signing bigger names maybe going for players like James really is where we should build from now. Young, dynamic, hungry and hopefully without huge egos - let's try and build a cohesive team first, then upgrade individual positions second

To be honest depay may be viewed as some as deserve to be sold but the guy was only here for one season wasn't he? I found that dumb & it happened only because Jose didn't use any of depay, Martial or Rashford as strikers and instead all at LW. Di Maria had a fall out with the manager.

I didn't like the sanchez transfer because it was the last thing we needed with so many LW. That didn't really need hindsight - the only thing that did was made me realise that sanchez was only a true world class player for 2.5 months. There's some people who in my opinion wrongfully wouldn't even consider Bale never mind the injuries because they scared of another sanchez transfer when in reality sanchez didn't have a single season of Bale's capacity. International football, CL football, Spanish football, PL football - Bale did things Sanchez could only ever dream of.

Im going to say it this way - he wasn't a stand out world class player in the first place.

Depay was here for three seasons but, you're right, he never really had much of a run after LVG lost faith in his the first time.

on Sanchez, I'd disagree in that I feel Bale had had better 'highs' and has obviously been part of an incredibly successful RM side but has he ever really been a key man consistently? He scored some crucial goals for them but, from memory, he's probably had two standout seasons for Real and has obviously been plagued by injuries. Sanchez, for me, was consistently class for a number of years - he was talked about in the same bracket as Hazard (who himself has had a few normal seasons mixed in with exceptional ones) and, whilst I don't think Sanchez was ever as good as Bale when the latter was fit and playing well - I'd say if you track him from Udinese ->Barca -> Arsenal he had a pretty phenomenal record (so long as you don't compare him to the GOATS).

Sanchez
Barca: 141 apps, 47 goals, 35 assists
Udinese: 112 apps, 21 goals, 20 assists
Arsenal: 166 apps, 80 goals, 45 assists

Total: 419 apps, 148 goals, 100 assists

Bale
Spurs: 203 apps, 56 goals, 58 assists
Real: 231 apps, 102 goals, 64 assists

Total: 434 apps, 158 goals, 112 assists

If you then factor in how dominant Real are/were (the only time Sanchez has been in a comparable team was Barca, where his stats are really good) I don't see how you can possibly think Sanchez hasn't had seasons where he's outperformed Bale. I'm ignoring the international side of things because Sanchez has won 2 x Copas, has more apps and more goals & Bale plays for Wales so it's not very fair. With hindsight he'll likely be remembered as our worst transfer but I don't think it was terrible move at them time.

I hope we stay well clear of Bale personally.

I believe we should keep him and let him play his best position now which is strikers or behind the striker. He can still be lethal in the box when on form.

Strikers position is everyone's for grabs right now. Players like Sanchez are better players for smaller space compared to lukaku or rashford and he might be handy in those situation against deep defences.

I still believe in his charecter to bounce back as an individual and and a player. He was rushed too quickly from injuries I believe and when you are not 100% you find it hard to shine in modern game. To me he is not done yet.
