Why can't the PL have something like NFL Game Pass?

I understand this NFL Game Pass costs around £150 for the year and you get all the live games plus loads of extra content. That's insanely good value. Does a broadcaster own this platform or is it developed and owned by the league itself? We have such a rip off deal as fans here in the UK in comparison.

and it's about to get worse with a 3rd broadcaster showing games next season (Amazon)

Because they're trying to protect the lower leagues and think this will cause people not to go to lower league football despite them having large followings despite rivers being a thing + they're too greedy despite rivers being a thing. You can get a free river that is excellent quality nowadays without much difficulty too so i imagine a ton of people would be happy to keep doing that.

I think a good model would be to have each team have a subscription service where you could watch full games of your own side that ran through your club.

I just read that the European Commission ended the Sky monopoly on the PL because it represented a restriction of consumer choice. What a load of bollocks. It just means we have to fork out for more subscriptions.

US is lucky. $50 gets you NBC gold access and that means access to every premier league game and highlights and interviews extras etc. That's on top of A pretty decent broadcast schedule on tv. I've been annoyed at having to pay extra but hearing about the lack of options in the UK I guess it's not too bad

It's so good. Every single PL game every weekend with ability to replay it later/watch highlights, every single CL/EL game, every Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga game, every Carabao Cup game, every Championship, league 1, league 2 games, some International games (forget which ones), every NFL game and redzone every Sunday, then other sports included that I dont watch. Also can stream it on 2 devices at once, and can watch on tv/playstation/laptop/phone. Just $150 for a year if you don't want to pay monthly. Best value that exists for sports.

Basically the only thing we're missing is the Bundesliga, the FA Cup, and then I don't think it has World Cup/Euros/Nations League and the qualifiers for them.

Id happily pay for a sports package that wasnt complete junk. As it stands iptv gets 60 bucks a year off me and that gets me everything under the sun. Id happily pay more if the uk broadcast rights werent a joke. Not to mention the pricing. The way I see it, they drove me to use other means. Instead of making a fair product they are gorging on fans that will pay anything to watch their team.

Ive sampled the nbc package and when you put it up next to the sky package, its just no contest. This was a few years ago, but just the ability to watch any game in full at any time was amazing. Missed a game? no problem, all the games are online to watch when you want. How can it be that nation that hates the sport put so much more effort into presenting it than the nation that loves it? Id pay for that NBC package without hesitation. Sky and BT can suck it.

Is there a real link between the availability of top flight football on TV and attendance at lower league games?

I got every Premier League, Champions League, domestic cup, La Liga, Serie A and a rake of other leagues, plus the rugby (including all Heineken Cup, Internationals and some Pro14) and plenty of other sports for a $14 a month addon when I was in Singapore.

It's fecking ridiculous that you can get better coverage on the other side of the world than you can within the UK. Also, why are we Irish lumped in with the Brits. We're not going to fly over to attend your lower leagues and the closeness/piracy argument doesn't fly when we are geoblocked from so much UK content anyway.

Until they offer value and accessibility, people will pirate. The bad guys are simply offering a better service.

Well it's to do with the 3pm kickoff rule and the feeling that if PL games are on tv in the UK at the same time then people in areas which don't have a PL team but have a lower league team, they'd rather sit at home and watch a game than go to watch a live one. I've had a quick glance at the Championship for a reference and it's a pretty mixed bag in terms of home average attendance for clubs. Teams like Wigan, Hull and Blackburn are doing pretty poorly in home averages. Only filling half the stadium on average, but there are also teams like Swansea and Rotherham with smaller stadiums that have 2/3 of the stadium full on average. It obviously depends on how well a team is doing though. Norwich for example were almost full every week on average. Same with Leeds.

A funny stat is that every Championship club has a higher average attendance than Bournemouth's whole stadium capacity.

Is it not something to do with the FAs concern that match day attendance would drop ? I mean , that might mean that clubs might have to reduced the astronomical price of tickets which would be good for everyone IMO

Ah ok. I don't remember where I saw the stat that the Championship has a higher average attendance than some top leagues elsewhere, so I always assumed there was some buffer there.

Are tickets expensive in the Championship?

It used to be even better back several years ago when every PL game was shown every week. But I can’t complain as almost every game featuring the top 6 is shown most weeks without having to purchase the NBC Sports Gold package.

Well it has 24 teams so an advantage in that sense over the Serie A for example but yeah, the Championship average for each team is very similar to that. Villa and Leeds average attendance is v close to Roma and Juventus for example.

There are 11 teams in the Championship that have an average attendance of 20k plus. There are only 8 in La Liga.

18 League 1 teams have an average attendance higher than Eibar who finished 12th in La Liga. 7 in League 2 that have an average attendance higher too. 2 in the National League...

That’s ridiculous tbh.

Depends which club , but for at a few clubs for example at Leeds you can still be talking 35 -40 pounds for a ticket which is IMO too much. Bear in mind the championship is probably one of the most exciting leagues in the world so they use that as justification

Because the rights are negotiate and sold to different broadcasters in different countries. Each right holder decides whether they want to implement the NFL Gameday style of broadcasting. TV is dying and streaming is growing. So it will probably reduce the price of TV rights should PL implement the system and allows viewers from around the world to pay the PL directly to stream games instead.

It will come eventually. The younger generation won't want a full sky subscription. NOW tv is only a stop gap.

Im pretty sure whoever holds the rights will offer an online service which shows all the games in the future.

You can sign up and watch every championship, league 1 and league 2 game for a one off fee now, IF you're abroad (or know about VPNs and fiddling the original country).
That surely has to be another step towards eventually allowing clubs to issue control of their own games. It's surely the final step in both saturation of games as well as the peak of the TV deal market.

I dare say people who are die hard fans of smaller clubs will go to their games whatever else is on, it's more the floating fans who are a key extra revenue. If all the games are available legitimately - as many still don't like the idea of streams - then that will be a big loss to clubs lower down.
