People complain too much. If you watch him, you can see his talent. Anyone comparing him to lukaku has clearly never seen him. He's fast, has a great touch and can finish. I assume the ones not impressed want us to get Aguero or Lewandowski
His overall play would be a vast improvement on Lukaku no doubt. But that’s a pretty low bar.

And maybe he could make the step up here, but he’d be a pretty underwhelming signing considering some of the other options available.

That said, at least we wouldn’t be going with Rashy up top next season.

It'd be a bit of a travesty to not give Martial a go as striker if the Lukaku goes, if he gets his head right he could easily be a level better player than this lad, and we would also have the added benifit of a new first choice left winger at the same time.

Nah, unfortunately they've gone for Amiens vs Guingamp and Caen vs Bordeaux instead.

Understandable choices tbf, must be hard picking games when you have so many footballing heavyweights playing on the same night.

That's why I specifically mentioned "Pogba-proven" - player who had excellent chemistry with Paul in French NT or at Juve. This random Dembele guy isn't no bargain purchase either, he'll still cost us about 50 million. Might as well double the money and go for elite players worthy of Manchester United shirt. To me it seems we're just becoming content with midtable mediocrity (Dembele, James, Longstaff... and lets be honest, OGS as well) instead of trying to get back where we belong with corresponding quality (Dybala/Griezmann, Kante, Varane, Allegri as manager).
Pogba proven

Yes a real travesty not to bend over backwards for a player like Martial and his terrible attitude .

If Martial wants on the pitch in any position he needs to grow up and earn it

We're certainly exploring some interesting avenues this summer, with Dembele and a string of championship kids.

However, the only thing that really matters is how they play once they get here.

We should be better and more ruthless than that. feck waiting for him to get his act together. We’re are Manchester Utd not Sunderland.

Pep would tell him get his act together or piss off

Dembele starts up front for Lyon away to Nimes in a half hour, if anyone is interested.
Surprising as I’m pretty sure the last few times I checked them out he has only come on as a sub and Depay was upfront flanked by Traore and Terrier or whatever his name is.

But We’ve been linked with him since the days of Fergie and his time at Fulham so who knows what’s going on.

It would be a travesty if we go into the next season with Martial/Rashford as our only strikers and hope they magically turn good which they won't.

Well of course, but we have a underperforming highly talented player sat on a fat long contract, so something needs to be done, I for one have never been convinced he's a winger, and have been frustrated he's constantly overlooked for the striker position, which in reality he might be crap at, but he's sure got all the tools for it if he gets his head sorted out.

I remember he was excellent at Celtic a couple of years ago. Wouldn't be a bad signing.

That's true... Sane has 10 goals and 10 assists in the PL and he's still not Pep's go to guy. How much better is Sane compared to Martial? Martial may have the talent but lacks the drive to succeed or make it big. Martial and Rashford can't be depended upon. They go missing in games more often than not.

Pep told Aguero to do more for the team and he responded even though he’d walk into our team on one leg

10 mins in. Good game. Dembele uninvolved so far.

Ndombele giving the ball away every time. Don't get the hype.

Nice bit of link up play to set up a half chance. Beat a man easily with a little drop if the shoulder.

Put through by Ndombele. Had to cut back before shooting narrowly wide. Probably would have scored with better first touch. Ball was fired at him to be fair. Very good from Ndombele.

Ndombele has been generally poor though

Does Ndombele have some good YouTube vids or something? Every time I watch him he just gives it away constantly. Despite setting up a chance hes been Nimes best player tonight.

At this point I'm desperately hoping there is in fact a scheme ongoing. Like a behind the scenes masterpiece where somehow Ole is right and Dembele proves to be exactly what Ole wanted and what we all hope he should be.

I know one thing. He is only one year older than Rashford. And has much better stats than him.

2-1 Nimes. Lyon have been poor. Memphis still has a nice right foot but looks just as an unexplosive as when he was here.

Dembele has been on the fringes of the game. Been neat and tidy on the couple of occasions he's had the ball. Reminds me of Chicarito or Andy Cole with some of his runs and movement. Unremarkable overall though in a poor Lyon performance

Decent second half so far. Led the line well, showed good strength. No obvious weaknesses.

No he is not, people just want a new toy.
To be fair a fit and motivated Lukaku is a terrific player. But he hasn't looked fit for over a year so what are we expected to do? If he doesnt want it enough get someone who does.

Isnt't he struggled to score goals in the Scottish and French leagues? Seems like a combination of Bellion, Obertan and Depay.

When Lukaku was 23/24 he managed to score 25 league goals in a single PL season. The under rating of him is ridiculous.
The discussions been done to death but the amount of goals Lukaku scores over a season isn't the reason why he's not good enough (and never will be good enough) for a top team. If this needs repeating then there's just no point discussing it. The combination of the right mentality, talent on the ball, movement, etc. all not there.
