I think Liverpool will win after a titanic struggle, I can see it being a final where both sides do their best to not win it, but ultimately Liverpool will speak it, just.

First Post here, Liverpool fan but I'd like to think I'm a realistic one. The game next weekend will be very tough for us IMO. I wanted Ajax to go through but that may have presented its own set of problems.

We've obviously had a far better league campaign than Spurs but it will mean the square root of feck all on Saturday next. If you watch the two games we played against Spurs this season you'll see that there's not much between the teams when they play each other. Spurs should have beaten us at Anfield or at the very, very least got a draw. I honestly think it's about 50/50. I don't care if Spurs have never won it before or have no experience at stages like this, any club that has done it has had to do it for the first time. Any Liverpool fans ranting and raving about thrashing them needs to be ignored as rational supporters know its going to be a right scrap.

If we lose it will be very disappointing, no question about it. And it will perhaps rightly raise a few questions over whether a team can come back from losing two finals in a row. It would be a psychological blow IMO but we've show we can bounce back from 1 loss already. Seem to be reliant enough mentally.

As an aside, I've been a Liverpool fan all my life and I'd be sick if we lose the final. But there's two or three Spurs fans I know that are good fellas and if they win it, I'll be pleased for them in a weird way. They're certainly the lesser of all evils when it comes to playing an English team in the final.

How can you put money on this?
Spurs are serial bottlers, and Pool never win a final....

4-4 draw and the ref aborts the match after 174 penalties each.

In a world of my own. People know me here.
This time 4 years ago we'd just been thrashed 6-1 away to Stoke in our final game of the season. Now we're looking forward to our 2nd CL final in a row, & this after achieving our highest ever points total in the League.

Football's a funny old game.

I do wonder if the extended break for the two teams (Nearing on 3 weeks), will negatively impact on the final.
Can't be anything but a blessing for Spurs, given our absolutely shocking run of form to end the season and all of the injuries. The players looked like dead men walking for much of the final month.

Fighting talk from Pochettino today:

"You don't play finals, you win them and we're preparing to win it."

I think its one injury too far for Spurs. If they had their whole first team fit and firing going into this. It would be very close. But Spurs have a raft of players returning from long term injury lay offs that havnt really played in months. Lamela, Winks, Kane, Sanchez. With Wanyama and Dier having just returned after extended time on the treatment table.

I do agree with the Liverpool supporter above. Liverpool were very lucky to get away with it at Anfield vs Spurs.

It's crazy when you think about it. Spurs being 1 game away from winning the European cup, which Arsenal have yet to won. Imagine saying that anytime between 2000- 2012? You'd be laughed at.

Any match not involving united will see me supporting the underdog. I would have lov3d to see Ajax win it.
I know a lot of our fans on this forum won't relate to the following but I do have this little part of me which enjoys seeing English teams doing well on the European stage (bar liverpool)*. It's probably because of the sheer disappointment our national team has been over the years plus how eurocentric uefa and fifa are. I am in very very far from patriotic politically but when it comes to football its better for me to see an english club win it than the favourites such as barca, Madrid, Bayern, except Liverpool of course.

I'd actually enjoy seeing 'lads, it's only Tottenham' win it.

*Liverpool - They are one game away from doubling our European cup record and are only 2 league titles away from us so I want them to stay as far away from silverware as possible.

Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur

Only Winks and Kane are sure starters out of them and they are both back in full training in fact for the first time in a while we have a fully fit squad to choose from.

I think this match had it been sandwiched in the season with those players coming back then it would be a hinderance but both sets of players will be playing after a 3 week break anyway so in terms of match fitness and sharpness I don't think they'll be much of a difference.

Totally worth it if they lose :D

I considered it but the odds on liverpool were quite low. Just about 1.45 when I checked last.
It’s almost a free bet for me really as something came in a couple of weeks ago. But like you say totally worth it :D

Spending 1000 of your family's money just to not feel bad if your rival wins a game of kick ball. Yeah, totally worth it. :houllier:

Doesn't matter how much money you have.

It really doesn’t. If he’s single he’s free to spend his money however he wants to. Heck, even if he’s got a family and makes enough money it doesn’t matter anyway.

You’re just stressed and prickly about the final. At a United forum.

Let's talk game strategy and tactics. Liverpool fans: what do you reckon Klopp's instructions and game plan will be?

Not sure if this was covered but who will make way for Kane? Considering how long he’s been out I wouldn’t think it would be crazy to use him as a super around the 70th. Unless the game would be gone by then. The thing is Alli assisted two of Mouras goals, Moura scored them and Sun has been consistent. The decision that’ll make or break it tbh

The usual. The only sticking point is whether he plays Hendo, Wijnaldum and Fabinho in the middle for defensive solidity. And that depends on whether you play a vanilla midfield yourselves. If Poch decides to only play on the break then I can see Keita playing instead of Wijnaldum or Hendo to keep more (useful) possession and deny you the break opportunities.

I think Klopp has learnt from the City defeat.

If Liverpool win I'll respect the process. This team has been incredibly well constructed after years of shite. This team has the least dislikeable set of characters in years. However, Spurs have spent very little, have a good British core and are the perennial non achievers.

So neutral or non neutral view...go spurs!

No one can deny Spurs winning it isn't a great story. They will have deserved it and it will be great for the history of the club.

Gegenpressen and use of the full backs as ammunition providers. The only problem with this tactic (as Klopp found out against City) is if the midfield can't be clever with ball retention we'll get woefully found out too far forward. Which is where I feel Poch will be looking. Don't think Poch will double bluff everyone and go gung ho in a one legged affair.

It is currently forecast to be 29° in Madrid on 1st June at 9pm and will only drop a few degrees by 11pm. That is bound to have an impact on how both teams approach the game. Together with the size of the occasion and the 3 week break from the last league game I think we might see a disjointed game as both sides struggle with lack of match sharpness, pressure and the heat. I think we might see a cagey low scoring game which could go to penalties.

He won't be gung-ho, but I don't think he's going to tell the team to just sit back and play on the counter. I think he'll take the game to Liverpool perhaps more than you think.

Liverpool are not the only team in this game that can press effectively and use wingbacks to provide ammunition.
