I’ll be happy if our main signings were:

De Ligt
AWB
Rice
Bruno
Sancho

And on top of the above few we add a few youngsters/cheapish signings in as well:
James
Alderweireld/Godfrey
Longstaff

And also involve more of the following youngsters next season:
Tuanzebe
Gomes
Chong
Greenwood

I personally don’t think we need much to improve. We just need quality who will go into the first team straight away. Too many of our recent signings have needed bedding in for whatever reason.

I just hope Solskjaer picks a system and finds players we need, it does feels like we have gone the wrong way round in recent seasons. Look at the Sanchez deal, we needed a RW so we buy a third LW. Mourinho spent months trying every which way to make a player play on RW and it never worked. Just buy players in positions we need, hence why I don’t want Daniel James. When he’s ‘only £15m’ that’s £15m less in the transfer kitty that could be the difference in landing say Koulibaly.

CB - De Ligt or Koulibaly
RB - Wan Bissaka
RW - Sancho
DM - Ndombele

I think after that we need a striker that fits into a 4-3-3 system that scores goals. If Lukaku can get back to the fitness of a footballer rather than a weight lifter he should be given another chance.

I'm just enjoying the mix of young english talent and random foreign targets. The lack of boring midfielders being linked is my only concern at this stage.

This would be a dream. A mate reckons the ac milan keeper may be coming if we lose ddg and ac milan fail to make champions league. Heard it on some italian show.

I appreciate that people are engaging in the standard practice of listing their ideal signings which is fair enough given the title of the thread. However, I'd like to ask again what do you think is the likelihood of these targets joining United this summer?

Read the thread title. This is what people wish would happen.

Be totally unrealistic and sticking to five players in and out.

In:
Cristian Eriksen (Tottenham)
Harold Kane (Spuds)
De Ligt (Ajax)
Raheem Sterling (Man City)
J Kimmich (Atletico)

Out:
Marcos Rojo (Boca Juniors)
Lingard (Plymouth Argyle)
Martial (Inter)
Valencia (Retired)
Alexis (Traveller's yard)

Starting XI:
------------------De Gea----------------
Kimmich -- Smalling -- De Ligt -- Shaw
------------------- Fred ------------------
--------- Eriksen -------- Pogba --------
--- Sterling ----- Kane ----- Rashford --

De Ligt (70m)
Luka Jovic (51m)
Rodri (61m)
Dybala/Griezzman/Felix (one of the three) (~100m)
Meunier (25m)

Total: 307 million GBP

Out: Lukaku, Rojo, Darmian, Alexis, Bailly (let's say 75 million)

Net spend: 232 million GBP

Unrealistic but that's the kind of overhaul we need. Would still need an additional CM to replace Herrera but that can be addressed in the next summer, as we could rotate Fred & Mctominay for now.

---------------Jovic--------------------
----Martial/Rashford----Dybala-----
--------Pogba----Fred------------
-------------Rodri---------------------
--Shaw--Lindelof---De Ligt----Meunier--

Not really meant to be played with actual wingers, but more about having 3 attackers in free roles, with wingbacks providing width. Which is why Meunier is important as he's a proper attacking wingback.

So, it looks like De Ligt Is off to Barca, Sancho is staying at Dortmund, Koulibaly will stay at Napoli, Bassaka will stay at Palace.

Who do we think will actually be our first "Big signing". James from Swansea is done and I'm happy with that. However, we need several players this window and so far I'm struggling to see where the established players are coming from.

Who do we think our first established signing will be?

(I'm aware it's early days).

Assuming James will happen, I would want Ndombele, De Ligt, Tielemens, Felix, Pepe, Muenier

I see a lot of posters wanting just a bunch of young talents such as De Ligt, Felix, Pepe, Sancho etc. Although I also believe that it's very important to bring hunger and desire into the squad, I think it's absolutely essential to bring in some grown men, who knows their strengths and perform to a certain standard week in week out.

In:

Lewandowski, Sancho, De Ligt (Alderweireld if Barca graps De Ligt), Ndombele, Neves, Jovic, Alex Sandro, Cancelo, Daniel James

Out:
Lukaku, Alexis, Rojo, Jones, Young, Darmian, Matic, (De Gea)

My focus would be to bring in some experience (Lewa, Alderweireld, Alex Sandro), some established and in-form potential stars (Sancho, Ndombele, Neves, Jovic, Cancelo), and then fresh up things with a bunch of young talents (James, Tuanzebe, Henderson, Greenwood, Chong, Gomes).

Also, I think it's time to create a new hierarchi in defence. So I would not be too sad to see De Gea go, and let Romero/Henderson battle it out. With Meunier and Alderweireld or De Ligt coming in, we could reset the defensive setup and build a new unit. If De Gea want's to try something else in his career, then might as well send him away now instead of postponing the inevitable for another season or to (granted he extends his contract if he agrees to stay).
He has been a fantastic asset for the club, and some would argue that it is a big risk to send him away now with a new and untested defensive setup, but I just don't see him as enough of a leader to be absolutely vital in a transition period with many new faces.

Oh, and get rid of Lingard. Sending him away may help to get Rashford and Pogba back on track. I have a feeling that he is the kind of guy who cannot take anything seriously, and that he may have a big influence on Pogba and Rashford's loss of focus.

Sell/swap/loan out:
Lukaku -> Swap for Milan Skriniar (#4)
Sanchez -> James (#11, £15m)
Jones -> see above (Skriniar)
Rojo -> Punt on young affordable CB (~ £20m), such as one of: Berat Djimsiti, Jason Denayer, Ricardo Graça, Ben Godfrey, Fikayo Tomori, Nathan Collins, ... Or whomever is available and affordable.

Plus (in):
Striker: Pedro (Fluminense, £25m max)
DCM: Like Jorrit Hendrix (£25m max)

Spent: 55 + (0/45/70) + 15 + 20 (CB punt) + 25 + 25. Spent: £140m to £210m (depending on midfielder brought in). 7 out, 7 in.

PS: Play Rashford or Martial at #9, if Pedro punt fails.

I wouldn't mind Griezmann in our attack. He has been consistent in the past years.

Also, it seems that Wan Bissaka and Meunier are the caf favorites. But I would go for Cancelo, IMO he is slightly better. As Herrera replacement, we need a box-to-box who brings energy to our midfield, N'Dombele sounds to me the best player to fill that spot considering that Kante is unrealistic.

Sell Lukaku and Sanchez, you get Pepe.
Get Rabiot on the free.
Sell De Gea, you get Meunier and Maignan.

Sell Pereira, Jones, Bailly, Darmian, and Rojo. Let Mata go. You get Haller.

De Ligt will go to Barca, so they will have to sell a CB.
Ndombele and Umtiti will probably cost a combined fee of 100-110 mil.

Except for Umtiti, we've been linked to all these French speaking players this summer. Would that motivate Pogba and Martial to perform on a more regular basis?
