Maguire, Rice, Pickford, Bale, Trippier, Dier and any other over-hyped, over-rated British player that the press love to build up and then go in two footed on them when then inevitably perform at their actual level. We have enough of those with Smalling, Jones, McTominay, Lingard and even to an extent, Rashford.

The term overhyped british player doesnt work anymore. England are a top 3 international team and have a better collection of u23 than Spain,Italy,Germany and Holland. Only France are better prepared for Euro 2020 and the world cup in 2022.

Yeah but to be fair I wouldnt say those players are integral to England’s success. It’s not like your mentioning Kane, Ali, Sterling etc. There’s still going to be average English players which will be over hyped. Maybe even more so due to the national teams success.

But these are over-hyped players, who are British and are over hyped by the British Media, so...

Exactly the point I was making, cheers mate. Wasn't an Anti-England post, just an anti-British media if anything.

Bale would just come here and do a Sanchez/Falcao/Torres etc when will we learn? No bale. That clip above is horrific. No croked or older castoffs from the monied teams. Let them shift their own deadwood while we compete with them for the very best up and coming players. It’s just such a pity Madrid need a rebuild the same summer we do yer again. I’ll never forget that horrible summer we lost peak Ronaldo to them. They signed everyone they wanted and we got Owen. Shudders

I’m terrified that Real will fleece us for Bale and we will bite. Among my Man Utd supporting friends I can actually tell which of them don’t really follow football by whether they want him or not. Basically everyone I know does not follow football now and relies on their knowledge from five years ago dreams of Bale at United. Everyone who has watched him play recently and realizes how injury prone he is as well would not touch him.

I'm confident we won't go for Bale.

The only way I would even consider Bale is a 1 year loan if Dortmund refuse to sell Sancho and Chelsea refuse to sell Hudson Odoi. In that case, we focus on midfield and defence, and loaning Bale would be fine. Can then at the end of the season go back in for Sancho while Bale goes back to Madrid whenever his contract is done. Would be an expensive loan of course, but would still just be a loan so not an awful idea and do no harm to long term transfer targets like Sancho.

Agreed, over hyped, over priced English players, Sancho included.

Let's see them do something first, rather than 1 season where they do quite well.
Including sancho in this is ridiculous. Kid is up there with any young player and probably the elite talent after Mbappe. 18 years old and has the most assists in europes top leagues (and has been decent with goalscoring too). I doubt Dortmund will let him go but he's a dream signing.

I wouldn't go near Bale even if he's put up for loan.
Let him continue to be Real Madrid's expensive problem.

Yeah I agree, we have to sort out our Sanchez situation without bringing in Bale. Gareth Bale is 30 in July and it be a crazy risk. I seen Bale destroy us at Old Trafford before moving to Real, a player built on pure pace. They rarely have longevity, especially one with his injury record.

Any 29+ player that will only be here for a big payday. I can see Alderwierald coming, but think Ole will mainly target younger players

Of the ones we've recently been linked with, definitely keen to avoid Pickford, Zaha and Bale.

Yeah, because if he does well, we’ll sign him for £50m, and he’ll be nearly 31.

If he does badly, we’ve just wasted a signing and a squad place.

Glasgow resident these days.
Folk need to calm down about Bale. As long as Sanchez is at the club and DDG wanting a king's ransom to stay, there is no way on earth United will be paying another player an astronomical fee.
We will be in the bracket for players in the next tier down for some time I feel.

I believe Real Madrid may have a hard time to ship Bale out, just like Sanchez for Man Utd. His injury record, high transfer fee and wages will really limit the options. His performance this year doesn't help him either.

Madrid missed a big opportunity in the summer with not putting Bale on the market.A fair few clubs,us obviously included, would've still taken a chance on him with the CL final still fresh in the memory. Now ? haha,no chance.
Dont you dare,Ed. Dont you fecking dare !

Think it was reported last summer as well that United had no interest in Bale.

Hasn't it been more of the case that Bale doesn't want United (or anyone for that matter) ?
Hopefully he keeps to that preference in the summer.
Don't see United being interested regardless.

I don't think we've really been keen since 2016 (I think it was)

Players you don't want this Summer

Alderweireld
Douglas Costa
Gareth Bale
Coutinho
Big question mark over Bale now but think the other three would all improve Man. United personally. Coutinho is obvious upgrade on Mata/Lingard who play number 10. Costa will do what Valencia did in his first season on the right wing although seems he starts well at clubs and then morphs into supersub for some reason.

Anyone that Woodward has heard of, as experience suggests that by the time word gets to him they are invariably over the hill ("Have you heard of this chap Maradona, anyone - sounds useful.")

He would improve our team. But he would cost a lot, injury prone, high wages, almost 30, etc.

Bale
Ramos
Maguire (especially at the quoted price)
Rice

And then these four purely based on my perception of their attitude and not footballing ability: Depay, Ousmane Dembele, Icardi, Griezmann

We have to start building a team with a natural hierarchi, and I can't imagine these four names contributing to that. It would be an absolute explosion of cringeness to have Lingard, Depay, Griezmann and Pogba in the same team.
