He is not a midfielder. Should be tried on the wing.

Also no idea why didn't he take that FK. He has one hell of a free kick on him.

Pogs has him and Fred next to him, Then have a look at City's midfield...

I've never seen him do much useful apart from that cracking goal. Seems like there might be a player in there, but it's like having another Jesse on the field at the mo

said it in the post match thread i'm not entirely sure what his skill set/role in the team is. People criticised Mctom before but at least we all knew what he was in the team to do.

Bad consistency.

I agree we should start trying him out as Left Winger/LM where he's way more natural -- the position and role where he impressed at Granada.
Martial and Sanchez are stinking that position anyway.

A very weird player. He's got a good shot, decent dribbling and really good set pieces but in a football match will more than often be absolutely useless. He's like a positionless player and one you bring on when you need a goal as he can make something happen but in a structured team or tactical game, he is a liability in any position he plays.

He was only one to create chances in the first half. Ole should have brought on for gomes.

Started brightly then seemed to fade. Booked for a stupid challenge. 4 key passes and 2 shots.

I still believe Andreas might turn into a decent midfield player for us.

It will be interesting to see if he's here next season, and if so, whether he performs a lot better.

I find it difficult to assess him, given how infrequently he plays and even then he has been played in several different midfield roles.

A player with "move him on" written all over him. He deserves to play regularly, but not at Man Utd.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I expect he'll want to be sold now. He strikes me as a player who wants to push himself, so won't want to sit around here as a squad player. Not unless he fancies his chances at winning a starting spot next season, which is probably a bad sign for us seeing as he didn't exactly take his chances this season.

I thought he was our best player along with Greenwood before the sub. Could've had like 3 assists.

The problem for me is that - like Fred - he exudes panic when he's on the ball. We need someone like a Carrick or Scholes who bring some calmness and composure to that position.

He's a good player but he's struggled to make a mark in this dysfunctional team. Ole doesn't seem to trust him after the few mistakes he made earlier this season, he always seems to sub him early.

Pereira set McTominay challenge as Man Utd wait on potential to be unlocked

The Brazilian midfielder is held in high regard at Old Trafford, but Nicky Butt concedes that he needs to find more confidence in his game.

Andreas Pereira has been told to use Scott McTominay as an example of how to become the player Manchester United believe he can be.

The Belgium-born Brazil international midfielder has been on the books at Old Trafford since 2011 and carefully nurtured through a famed academy system.

Big things have been expected of him for some time, with the 23-year-old tipped to shine on a senior stage. He has taken in loan spells at Granada and Valencia, while making 35 appearances for United, but there is still plenty of potential to be unlocked.

Youth team coach Butt believes Pereira needs to add more confidence to his game in order to truly flourish, with McTominay having shown how to make the step up into a star-studded first team.

A man who took in 387 outings for the Red Devils during his own playing days told Inside United: “Andreas has done well. He’s a really good footballer.

“He’s technically very gifted, he’s a brave, tough boy and can run all day. He is fitter than probably anyone on the pitch. He needs to get into the rhythm and get more confident as time goes on.

“He needs to do the things he was doing naturally in the Under-23s and Under-19s.

“When you get into the first team – I remember when I went in – you don’t do the things you would do in the Reserves and youth team. You get away with it in the youth team – if you give the ball away trying to hit an unbelievable cross, you’re not giving it to, say, Sergio Aguero, who is going to run through freely and score the goal that knocks you out of the cup.

“It’s not the be all and end all like it is in the first team, so you have to tread carefully. When you get in the team regularly, then you can express yourself more.

“Scott McTominay has done that and I think Andreas will soon too because he’s a top talent.”

Pereira made 22 appearances for United in the 2018-19 campaign, including 15 in the Premier League.

He opened his top-flight goal account during a meeting with Southampton in March and also earned a first senior cap with Brazil when figuring in a friendly date with El Salvador – becoming the first player born outside the country to represent the Selecao in over 100 years.

I feel like our issue is in our search for creativity we've just overloaded with players who should play as attacking midfielders and then tried to shoehorn them into CM, and even DM roles, in Pereira's case. We've got Mata, Lingard, Pereira and Sanchez - who all should probably be used as a 10 but instead they've been playing wide, playing central and that's simply not what they're good at. I'm not saying they're all great players and we've misused them but we need to start being a bit more savvy with signings who actually fit the role we need.

On Pereira, I do think there's a decent player in there but I don't think any of our CMs will do well until we sort out the attack ahead of them.

Hope, We Lose
Considering his running stats, willingness to press and Ole's comments on fitness I actually think he'll get another season here to show more quality on the ball.

Thats 3rd most sprints in our squad and 7th largest distance covered, although its 5th of our CMs he still covered more ground than Fellaini and Pogba. If he wasnt sprinting so much he'd probably be higher up on the distance covered as well.

But again, I'm really confused why we dont give him some set pieces if hes playing. Our set pieces are trash and he was known as a specialist. Even if he's not as good as he was, average would be an improvement

Refreshing change in tone around the club right now. Love the focus on youth and investing in our own.

And really nice to see the club focusing on Pereira finally. He’s been jerked around so much the past few years. Hope he settles in and shows his value to the club in turn next season.

On the other end of the scale, I am surprised that De Gea does 3.55km average per match? Does that include walking to the tunnel and back? How does he clock up such a distance?

Very low down on the list of problems, when you have dross like Lingard, Smalling and Jones around.

Lingard is ten times better than Pereira. And is a local lad who loves the club.

I'm 100% sure that Pereira won't be at United in say three years. He'll end up at Malaga or something in a year or two. That's his level.

You must think Lingard is Messi if you think he's ten times the player Pereira is :houllier:

I doubt that.

And despite popular belief Pereira is actually still somewhat of a young lad and Lingard is not. Pereira could still improve a bit.

I dont think either of them is good enough to play for Manchester United though.

In comparison to Pereira and Malaga, I hope you are not suggesting Lingard is United level...
I think Lingard is good enough to be a squad player and he won't complain if he is one. Pereira, I think, won't accept that in the future. Also, Lingard has shown a lot more than Pereira has. Pereira has never in his career made one season and shown anything that suggests he is good enough.

Pereira is 23 and a half. And not a young lad. I don't really get your point. Lingard has shown that he can play a role, both for United and England. Yes, the past season he wasn't the greatest but who was?

Neither of them have IMO not over a season, and one is about 27..

I don't care one bit about his age. He has shown he can be productive in a team and I don't see the point of getting rid of one player who loves the club, has shown he can produce, won't complain if he's a squad player, and is homegrown. Who is going to replace Lingard as a squad player and why?

I honestly dont think he's even close to any of those players. Do you think he's better somehow? And if so, why?

3 good games a season doesn't prove anything. Andreas probably loves the club aswell, and has a much better attitude overall.
