Ronaldo is now one of the worst free-kick takers in the world because he's had to learn a new language. This is a good one.
You're very good at twisting posts to suit whatever point you're trying to make. We both know that's not what I said. Ronaldo learning a new language is part of integrating into a new team and being on the same wavelength as his teammates.

It's hard to say, as it's hypothetical, but I'm 100% confident that he would walk into that league and be the best player by a country mile. However, it's pointless to discuss these hypothetical things, and when you do then obsessive people dredge them up continually 12 months later.

Messi is never going to leave Barcelona because it's where he grew up, and he's happy there. There is no reason for him to leave.

Also, it is inaccurate and unreasonable to state that Messi continues to play with players that he grew up with. They've virtually all gone now, and today he's playing with Suarez, Coutinho, Dembele, Rakitic, Arthur, Vidal, etc, players he hasn't been around for all that long.

The reason Barcelona are so good is simply because Messi makes them good.

Also, virtually no club on the planet could afford to sign Messi, and no Barcelona president would ever be allowed to let him go, even if bizarrely he did want to leave.

So the argument about him not testing himself in other countries is unfair. However, if Messi did play in Serie A or the Premier League, I'm certain he would be the best player by some distance. It's impossible to say how many goals he would score, but Messi's game isn't about goals, he just happens to score 50 goals per season because he's a genius.

Of course, he can't ever go to Serie A because the only club that would have the slightest chance of buying him would be Juventus, and Ronaldo is not going to allow himself to be completely outshone, obviously. Although it would be a terrible move for Messi in footballing terms because Serie A has never been weaker. I don't think anyone can argue against that.
And I'm 100% sure he won't be anywhere near as productive as he is at Barca. Juve have no midfield which means he would probably drop deeper than ever like he does for Argentina. Their play can also be very disjointed (similar to Argentina). There are so many parallels between the two sides in terms of how they play and how they could/do accommodate Messi and he doesn't have the effectiveness of the best player in the world when playing for Argentina.

Now it's agreed by essentially everyone that Messi is the better player, let's pose a slightly tougher question.

Who would you rather be, Messi or Ronaldo?

Right now Ronaldo. Time for Messi to score for Argentina ;). Ronaldo look set to maybe win the biggest title around nations league. No big player has won it before so it shows how hard it is to win it ;).

Its actually the biggest joke I've ever seen on the caf that! The clear bias made RAWK look impartial and fair.
I was the first one to call that. Like I have said before Ronaldo can play in Portugal, Madrid, juve, United, Haiti, North Korea it don’t matter. The result would be the same.

Against a very, very average Switzerland side.

Where have these “GOAT-worthy” performances been for Juventus?

Any United fan who still thinks it's Messi is either an idiot or not really a United fan or both. Thankful that the greatest to ever play the game graced our football club.

Atletico Madrid did you miss that one :). Didn't do it against Ajax though while Messi performed in more big games this season. Although his two goals against us from De gea,Young being crap was not GOT impressive though and they could still not beat Liverpool in the second leg.

His mentality, showmanship and all round goalscoring ability is probably the best we have ever seen in a footballer.

The greatest player ever though is still messi. Ronaldo, despite doing what he does, will never change the fact that messi has shown us he is the most technically gifted player ever.

It depends how you view it. As someone who has played football before I am more amazed by messi, I've never seen anything like him. Ronaldo, for a lot of people has probably produced more memorable moments and to add to that has stats which suggest he is the best.

One thing I will say is that the argument between the two is becoming so nominal. It's more preference based now. I won't go out of my way to convince someone that messi is the superior player, because you could argue both ways equally.

I can't wait for Messi to score next time and then this thread will get populated and then Ronaldo will score and this thread will populated once more and then Messi will score again. It'll get to a point when they are both 86 and 89 years old and the people on here will be comparing who took less piss's in a day to see who's got better renal function

Anyone still comparing them needs to get their head checked.

Ronaldo delivers under pressure whilst Messi is busy giving key passes and failing year after year.

Messi failed in 2 copas. Ronaldo will deliver Portugal 2 international titles in the space of 3 years.

Not even close. Maradona, Pele, Cruyff and C Ronaldo were/are all better.

Hat trick against Atleti to drag Juventus through?

You’ve plucked out one performance. I want more.

He’s hardly been a GOAT consistently all season but suddenly a performance today and it’s “not for debate again”

Messi with ease.

Cant stand either but appreciate both as talents. Messi is just better.

It’s not a contest for me, never really has been. Today for example performance wise Shaqiri was by far the best attacking player on the pitch, Ronaldo stole the show with three goals, but what many more articulate posters than myself have been trying to explain to the Ronaldo loyalists is that combines that performance of Shaqiri, passing dribbling wise(plus more) and still scores the hat trick, if you’re knowledge of football is not nuanced enough to see the difference then what more can we say?..

Yeah all he does is key passes and score nearly twice as many goals and get nearly twice as many assists. As well as win two trophies to Ronaldo's one this year, as well as go further in the CL.

But that Ronaldo, boy did he deliver in the ultimate pressure cooker situation, the nations league against Switzerland. The true test, debate closed. That nations league trophy he hasn't even won yet absolutely settles this debate.

You couldn’t argue both ways equally when analysing them as players, Messi scores as much goals and does everything else better, it’s not up for debate, Messi is the only player who combines Ronaldo scoring prowess while having the most key passes, dribbles, chances created in Europe.
