Manchested United (social media team) is not dumb enough to give his brand a platform on social media, if they didn't think that would benefit the club's social media presence.
If he or Rashy are showing up more often on the club media, then that is deliberate and sanctioned by the club.
Judging by the anger they generate through social media, it may backfire for the club.

I guess you'll be sad to know Gomes considers Rashford his mentor. That darn Lingard is just ruining our youth isn't he?
I remember when Lingard was young, I had so much hope for him. He was direct, really good technically and he was a good finished. He lost all of that and he just runs now. His attitude sucks too, everything is a joke to him and he keeps pushing his brand even when we lose a game. I guess that's the problem of growing up watching players like Vidic and Scholes.

I say he's not good enough and also maybe he's off the pitch antics have effected he's game who knows. What I do know is that Rio, Becham or any of the others who had other commitments didn't let that effect there game as there record speaks for it's self. I think you can't compare what Rio did off the pitch with Lingard because Rio backed it up on the pitch and Lingard has become a bit of a laughing stock and it's effecting our youth players and I'd say it is effecting Rashford.
Why would you say it is effecting youth players?

Sorry, I just don't see this 'everything is a joke' attitude from Jesse. You'll have to come up with something real - that's not.

For your information, when a public figure is involved in activities such as promoting clothes or other consumer goods, they don't suddenly close shop when their team loses or when they make a comment about something going on in the world.

I was on the espn website before and was interested to read an article by two writers about the players they think United should keep or sell. The article is old - 58 days ago - but it certainly is more objective and focused on football than some of you here will ever be. Jesse rightly gets praise for being somebody with a professional attitude even when he doesn't start as well as other qualities and Marcus is praised for being the young talent essential to Manchester United. I can't link the article but it has merit.

First it was Pogba ruining the youth now it's Lingard

The whole furore surrounding how they were dressed at the Treble game tells me, more than anything, that some of our fans have issues with them that extend beyond football. If they had turned up in tracksuits, they would have got grief, they turned up in suits and they still get grief. It's usually around this point that they tell us as fans to get to fcuk and they we'll really start seeing 'attitude problems'

To other footballers as a whole yes. To footballers on other big PL clubs, no. Big no for Lingard, and a not yet for Rashford.
Ref. the rest on laurels thing. I really believe they are lacking a lot in ambition. There were several players that achieved a lot in a MU jersey with half the skill of Lingard. Playing for MU is an outstanding achievement, but once you do that the next natural step is being a serial winner with the club. Instead, these players seem to believe they achieved everything. That's where their attitude fails them, their employer, and their fans.
I'd say there's objective evidence that Manchester United the organisation has failed in a number of areas and that has had a top-down effect on the squad/first team, negatives including instability, managerial merry-go-round, poor recruiting choices, lack of identity and leadership.

Yet some of you slag off Jesse and Marcus, two local lads proud to pull on the shirt and with strong work ethics. Even that apparently is cause to belittle them going from some posts on the caf. There are other Premier League teams that would have them in a heartbeat. As for their development, you can't just throw anything out there without looking at root causes of Manchester United's slipping behind City and others.

Correct, I used to handle the social media for an Arsenal player and we had to ask that they didn't use him as much (they were clearly trying to tap into the market of his home country).

And if your point is that we're angry because we don't want to be West Ham, then you're right. So would any fan of a major club. Go ask an AC Milan fan to see if they're not apeshit about their team.
Exactly. We are all seeing our club is in danger of quickly becoming West Ham. We don’t really know what goes on in the dressing room, but we see the terrible performances on the pitch by “Rashy” and Lingard, and then we see these clowns in social media, with a carefree attitude. As a fan, it makes me angry towards them, because for me they have played a BIG part of the shit show we have watched over the last few months on the pitch. I feel my anger is justified and it is part of being a fan. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fans expressing their anger when they feel there is something seriously wrong with how these players are behaving.

Of course, I see other fans are not bothered much. They present good and cool intelectual arguments abour this pair being entitled to live their lives as they wish. Perhaps we all don’t see the game in the same way, and they don’t feel these pair carry any particular burden of responsibility. Or perhaps they are not as passionate or they don’t like to show anger. I respect that.

Our West Ham fans obsessing about their players social media? It is fine to think the players are not playing well enough on the pitch when you guys start getting angry about what they are wearing and what they are posting on social media is when it gets weird.

There is a link between the two. After all, social media is not their private life, it is a public forum. If in our view they have played like shit for an extended period, and then they come and act like clowns in this public forum, it triggers a release of that anger that has been building up by watching their terrible on-field performance.

Could not disagree more, of course United are not against it and no legal measures will be taken. However, millions of people showed their condolences about the Manchester tragedy, but they hardly put logos of their brands on it. JLings is an absolutely nothing brand, so the shitty logo was put there to be promoted, and not to promote United or increase the Manchester tragedy awareness due to the huge exposure of Jesse's pimp clothes.

It's effected Rashford and I'm sure the youth look up to both Rashford and Lingard. Can you imagine being 17 looking upto Lingard with he's JlingZ and moon walks. I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near him.
Now you are talking about him like he is the local drug dealer.

Yeah but, is still ridiculous and irrational. What they are doing on social media have zero relation to what they are doing on the pitch.

I just explained the link with their clowning around in social media triggering a release of pent up anger, you seem to understand it because you say “yeah but...” and then you say there is zero relation. You are trying to rationalize, but anger is an emotion, it’s difficult to rationalize. Just because you don’t feel the anger yourself it doesn’t mean it’s non existent for millions of us.

Weird thing to tweet given circumstances. That being good said,

Criticism for performances is fair do's but all this hate for the way they dress or the perception that they are footballers so they must not be anything but - in their free time - is simply misplaced anger, if not moronic.

I would say trying to defend Lingard, after he almost purposely brings onto himself all these angry responses, is a bit ridiculous and irrational.
Here is the thing it is May the season just ended and the next season does not start until August. So Lingard, Rashford and the rest of the squad can not redeem themselves until then. So for the next two months do you want the players to not been seen in public or on social media until the season starts again? And will guys get angry over and over again when they are doing things in public that do not involve Football training?

I don’t know. It is just May and the frustration of having watched a terrible MUFC the last few months is still fresh. I guess it depends how provocative their social media postings are. Also, if the club makes some signings that are perceived as great signings, some of the gloom and anger may lift.

He didn't post that as a private individual, though. It was posted by a company/brand that he owns. You can always take the cynical view and suspect that companies only get involved - in anything, be it a happy story or a sad one - because they ultimately profit from the exposure. That would be incredibly harsh in this particular case, though. Lingard certainly doesn't come across as a stone cold bastard, whatever else he may come across as.

If Amazon tweets something out of respect for the victims of a tragedy, they'll hardly do it anonymously, will they? Exactly the same for Jlingz - it's a brand, not a person.

This has been discussed to death. Businesses give out such condolence messages in public all the time. You can't say that a business should not give out messages because it is a shitty brand or its owner/public face is not good enough in his field of work.

I really don’t care what those two wear or do outside the pitch.

However, I do think they both aren’t good enough and we should be looking for better players, but that’s just me. To me Lingard is a lost cause who we should get rid of as soon as possible, while Rashford should be on the bench and learn from some established striker (we don’t have one unfortunately).

What is that English obession with making nicknames anyway? Used to be Scholesy, Giggsy, Vidda, Becks, Jonnah (Phil Jones) and others. I guess JLingz is pretty original compared to those.

That Rashy collar is horrible btw.. must have been a gift from Lingard or something but who cares about that. A fan asked him for a selfie so it is nice that he takes the effort of taking a selfie with a fan.

It has everything to do. It's about mentality:

"When I lost a match I broke down in frustration. Today players lose, take a selfie and put it on the Internet. They make me sick." Gennaro Gattuso.

Quote from a player that won everything and gave his all on the pitch despite his technical limitations.
Young players who follow his example will thrive. Others will fail, even if in relative terms.
Look at Neymar, he could have won the Golden Ball with the talent he has. Never got anywhere near, due to the same kind of behavior criticized in this thread.

A fan asked him for a selfie so it is nice that he takes the effort of taking a selfie with a fan.
Effort is loading a truck of cement under the sun. Taking a selfie with somebody who puts you in a pedestal is a moral obligation.

Manchester United fans don't want to hear how you "made it" simply because you made it playing for the first team. Great for you and the family. But gloat about that to fans on the back of the season Lingard has had, playing and earning thousands of pounds a week for a club that is used to winning and being the best in the country? It's fecking pathetic coming from a 27 year old number 10 who has 14 assists his entire career.

Tbh, I don't mind if players being arrogant (we sort of had plenty of ex-players who showed that) only if they already prove themselves first.

Prove it on the football pitch consistently first and foremost, then go had that privilege, be indulge in your deserve glory and whatever the lifestyles you chose.

Rashford and Lingard does not deserve it.
Just running around and training a lot to gain the tile of hardworking players, and do many "masked-work" charity are enough to buy easy fans trust eh.

If you punch a wall or take a selfie after a match the result on the pitch does not change. Gattuso not understanding the younger generation will decrease his chance of having success as a manager. And there is very few players in Neymar's age group who have accomplished as much as him. He has won 6 league titles, the Copa Liberatadores and a Champions League.

And here I was thinking that players like overweight smoker and laugher on the bench when the team is losing such as Rojo and possibly the worst signing I can remember because of his almost zero value to Manchester United given how the obscene amount of money paid for him in Sanchez were two players quite deserving of criticism for what they haven't done any time in a United shirt.

Silly me - let's knife two local lads proud to play for Manchester United because they wear some chains, like urban fashion and don't hide away at home because their club's organisation has not provided the kind of environment in which they would flourish.

People like to argue and Lingard and Rashford provide that foundation for an argument.

Rojo and Sanchez are so completely and utterly shit there is no debate to be had, everyone agrees they are useless.

That's my theory.

I can understand not hating Lingard's social media/business activity and defending his right to have outside interests, but I can't understand why anyone would want Lingard to stay for football reasons. He's just nowhere near good enough.

Not selling and staying is two different things.

Alot of us don't see the reason we should go out of our way to sell Lingard when we have major gaps all across the positions he covers for us & so much more around him.

If he was unhappy here then sure none of us would force him to stay. However, making him stay vs not selling is slightly different. Plus a player like Gomes talks about Lingard break through influence & that's something that influences me more than what Lingard wears at night.

So much wrong with this post it makes me angry

We should keep Lingard because he is happy here? Anyone being paid what he is at the so called biggest club in the world is going to be happy

He covers us for so much? What he fills a shirt, he sure as shit hasn’t being doing anything else since Christmas, what is it it 1 goal and 2 assists since then?

His mate Gomes talks him up? Fanfeckingtastic
