@Get young talent He's nowhere near Pogba, got none of the creativity and offensive ability that Pogba offers, his passing range is still vastly inferior to Pogba albeit good. He is a fine signing but not a Pogba replacement, right now he's not fit to lace his boots.
Also he wasn't good against Barca, especially the 1st leg, think he got a 3/10 in l'Equipe or something
How was Pogba against Barca?

Seems like a logical choice to replace matic at the moment. Has vulnerabilities for sure but so does rest of the players out there.

City will be looking to buy in this area too so better be quick.

Replacing a DM by an offensive CM doesn't sound logical to me at all

He is the best, way better than pogba and fernandes. Pool, Spurs and real want him and he played Well against city and Barça.
Maybe better than Fernandes but Pogba ? Not even half the player. Funny how Pogba became underrated in England.

Ndombele could be the best replacement for Herrera. But I think he will sign for a team like Madrid, Juve, PSG, etc.

I've basically stopped watching Ligue 1 but he sure as shit played as a DM against Barca. Didn't look eager to get forward either, more so sit deep and play passes. I've have pegged him as a pretty classic deep lying playmaker type if not as physically weak or eager to constantly be on the ball as a Jorginho, so maybe like a Neves or Xabi Alonso type.

He could become that type of player because he has the tools but currently he isn't a DM or deep lying playmaker. He is a box to box that can do a defensive job in certain games, generally against big possession teams.

He seems like a good fit for the Prem as a deep midfielder as he can pass the ball and isn't a twig, but I would have liked to have seen more energy. I think if I was Spurs I'd be desperate to add him, they need a quality #1 deep midfielder ahead of Winks, Wanyama and Sissoko and Pochettino gets everyone working like a dog.

He can play there. But he's better as a box-to-box midfielder.

I think our midfield would improve with a player like him and a deep-lying playmaker.

Unfortunately, I have the feeling that he will end up at Liverpool.

No way we are getting him, there are rumors he is wanted by Liverpool, Madrid, Bayern and Spurs. There’s no way he’ll choose to join us, feck if I was him I would preffer to stay at Lyon than to come here at the moment.

Spurs pay less wages but London, a weak crop of deep midfielders and good teammates would be tough to turn down.

Even if we can get him, the caf prefer Tielemans as Herrera replacement.

Unfortunately, I think Ndombele could end up at Liverpool (or Madrid if they can't sign Pogba or Eriksen).

I think they did try to add him last year along with DeLigt but he was on loan to Lyon or something and I think they had an option on him if I recall.

The only thing I’d say is Lyon don’t really do mass sales if I remember correctly and they have interest in Ndombele, Aouar, Fekir, Mendy and Depay and if to be believed Dembele. So who are Lyon willing to let go this summer.

Shouldn't we (United) be in for Aouar? I only watched them in the CL but he looked technically very good and brave. Reports are that Klopp and maybe Guardiola want him but it seems like we could throw money at it and get it done maybe?

Pay an extra 10M over anyone else's offer, if that's what it takes, but isn't he basically the best CM prospect we could realistically get to build the post-Pogba and Herrera midfield we will have to build from scratch basically?

Havertz, De Beek, Barella, Tielemans, Ndombele, etc. Even players like Fernandes are good options.

We would also need a player like Ndidi, Rice, Neves to play instead of Matic.

Lyon is one of those teams that it looks like the giant clubs would just buy half the starting eleven given the opportunity, sort of like Ajax.

Put it like this, Daniel Levy is nothing compared to Jean-Michel Aulas, that mother fecker will take your soul, your first born and about 30 mil over the asking price and the socks off your feet.

Exactly

I remember when we were in for Essien and Diarra. That fecker was stubborn as a mule, and spitefully sold them to Chelsea and Real.

I’m not sure how he would fit or how well he would do with Pogba. I think he is a great talent and I’d want him at United but think he’d do better in a team without Pogba in it especially the way I think Ole will want to play.

Partey doesn't play as deepest CM in a 3. Ndombele does. It would still work, just the other way round
No he doesn't. Lyon has Tousart to play behind Ndombele and Aouar.

Ndombele isn't and will never be a DM.

Ndombele doesn’t. If it’s him and Aouar then yes he often sits a bit more but on the rare occasion they go as a 3 then it’s Tousart who is the DM. For the most part it’s just he and Aouar playing a 2 in midfield.

Edit: I should say “sits a bit more” but I mean in some games Lyon seem to play with no midfield at all.

For the last 2 months he's been used in a DM 2 in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Aouar. Tousart tends to start when Ndombele or Aouar is rested.
The word “DM” should be used loosely in that sense as yeah that seems to be his role in the 2 but I don’t think i’d Say he has really played it like you’d want a DM to.

Kinda right. I was thinking of Fekir being in the midfield, which would make it 3 man. Positionally it did kinda end up that way with Fekir taking up an AM position

City game 1 :

City game 2 :

Both times NDombele deepest

Barcelona 1 :

Ndombele slightly deepest with Traore making it a 3 man midfield with his positioning

Barcelona 2 :

NDombele was equal, if not a slight amount deeper than Tousart

I see two Hoffenheim games where Tousart is deepest and NDombele is further forward and 1 against Shakhtar. So the big matches in the champions league were with NDombele deepest, and the easier matches in the group stage with Tousart deepest

Guess you didnt watch the 4 City and Barcelona games. Weird ones to miss
These games are exceptions, he even said that it was fine to do that type of job on an exceptional basis against teams like City or Barcelona but that he didn't like it, that he wanted to be on the ball and imposing himself with it. Ndombélé could be a DM in theory but he is inconsistent in terms of his aggression and will to defend.

Ah now see I wouldn’t have classed Fekir as being part of a midfield 3 as to me he plays more as an SS. Most of the games I’ve watched have been Ligue 1 where when they have played it’s been 2 and rare occasions they’ve had Tousart and he together Tousart was a DM. But mostly Tousart comes on to replace Ndombele or when he is rested.

That’s just my take from watching them through out this season but for me Ndombele isn’t the man you want as a DM in any team.

I’ve seen this guy a few times now and I don’t really get any of the hype?

Looks limited technically which is the last thing we need in our current midfield.

And miss the biggest games of his season? Weird
Ramos played as DM against Juventus in the biggest game of the season for Real Madrid in 2015 ( semi final).

So Ramos is a DM ?? :lol::lol:

Yeah I dont think I watched them play in Ligue 1 at all, but caught quite a lot of them in the champions league.

I agree he's not a traditional DM but he was most of the time an effective weapon playing his passes from deep. That was the main thing I came away from those matches thinking about him, he was picking the ball up deep and finding Lyon players in good positions even against top teams like City and Barcelona. The defending left a lot to desire, but on the ball it worked for Lyon.

So to me the idea is to have NDombele passing from deep and have someone who does a lot of good, active defensive work to the side of him to cover and help him. So pretty much what you'd usually have with a deep lying playmaker. Like Gattuso to the right of Pirlo
