17 goals are not too many, are they?
He scored 10 in Europa League as well, not shabby at all.

I think we'll be seeing both him and Karim in the same lineup frequently, with him playing the poacher role -basically a Cristiano-lite - and Karim playing as a second striker.

Wasn't Haller their out and out striker?
Eintracht usually played a 3-5-2 with two of Haller, Jović & Rebić up front and the third either on the bench or in behind the front two (mostly Rebić).

Stats

Jović 27 goals/7 assists in 48 games
Haller 20 goals/12 assists in 41 games
Rebić 10 goals/6 assists in 38 games

Haller has been probably the most important out of the three for his fantastic ability to hold up the ball and bring the others into play, in addition to scoring. Rebić is a tireless runner with decent dribbling ability who can play either as a forward or a central winger/false 10, while Jović has been exceptional at finishing his chances in a variety of ways.

Among Eintracht fans, the consensus is that the other two had a bigger influence on the teams' style of play, but Jović's clinical finishing and energy will not be easy to replace in any case.

The price seems fair for a young striker who has had one good and one great season. It's an astronomical sum for Eintracht (even after 20-30% go to Benfica), but at the same time it cannot be said that Madrid have been fleeced. The absolute insanity of the Coutinho deal and duds such as Lukaku or Morata might have warped the perception of the market for some, but even then those players have been far more experienced, playing for bigger clubs, on bigger stages and for longer periods.

We all love United
We can't buy a striker until we are able to find a buyer for Lukaku. Not sure what the meltdown is all about

Everyone seems to consider him the best young CF around so it appears to be another good buy for Madrid.

We have 6 players for the 3 forward positions as it is. We have to cull lukaku and Mata /Sanchez or both before bringing In a striker and winger. Shouldn't make the same mistake we did at the back where we had 5 first team fullbacks and 5 cb's.

Well feck. I was hoping we’d nab him.

That probably just leaves Icardi as our only realistic option if we want to upgrade Lukaku.

Anyone who says the number of goals he scored in the league seems a bit low, check out the type of goals he's scoring. Incredible striker in the making, imo.
The guy will at the very least become a Dzeko level CF imo, but he seems nailed on to go further than that.

That Haller guy has got some impressive stats, too, and he's only 24. Is he being rumored anywhere?

I was really impressed by his finishing. A clinical striker would come in useful here considering we create probably 3 chances a game. It just heaps more pressure on Lukaku when he inevitably blazes it wide, because you know another chance won’t be along for half an hour.

I don’t know if the English tabloids are ready for Icardi and his mrs/agent. Great out and out striker though.

I even love the Rodrygo signing, I think he'll be a really good player. So far incoming are Rodrygo, Militao, Jovic, Mendy and if you add Hazard to add well that's a pretty solid transfer window.

Giroud scored 11 Europa League goals. The competition is pretty weak.

I'm not saying he isn't an impressive young striker (probably the best out and out young one around, due to a lack of competition) but 60 odd mill sounds about right for the potential he's shown so far. I don't think Madrid have struck a bargain or anything.

A list of U21 Bundesliga players who have scored 17 or more goals in one season in the past 30 years:

Luka Jovic 17 goals (18/19, 21 years old)
Kai Havertz 17 goals (18/19, 19 years old)
Timo Werner 21 goals (16/17, 21 years old)
Josip Drmic 17 goals (13/14, 21 years old)

That's it.

Now if he ends up like Drmic that'll be a great deal for Frankfurt. :)

I think one of the biggest questions is whether or not he can score against top notch competition.
The EuroLeague games seem to indicate that that's the case since he scored against Marseille (3x), Chelsea (2x), Lazio, Benfica, Donezk and Inter.

But if you look at his Bundesliga goals, it's a lot less flattering:

1 goal against Dortmund (2nd)
1 goal against Wolfsburg (6th)
1 goal against Hoffenheim (9th)
5 goals against Düsseldorf (10th, 17th when that game took place)
2 goals against Mainz (12th)
1 goal against Freiburg (13th)
3 goals against Schalke (14th)
1 goal against Stuttgart (16th)
2 goals against Hannover (17th)

He will be a flop.
Just because Real Madrid buys a player, that doesn't mean he is good.
I can't see him being in Madrid in three years.
I don’t get how can you be so definite in your post. I think he has a very high floor for a young #9. Sure, Real might be too big for him, but no one knows that as of now.

He’s a lethal finisher. Great signing. Would have been an instant upgrade on lukaku but we wouldn’t have beaten Madrid to his signature without having sealed the deal months ago.

Whoever I bet on
I have been taken aback by Real's interest and, ultimately, this transfer.

I am very excited about him as he will likely become the best Serbian striker since I started watching football 25 or so years ago. However, that bar is not set particularly high, as the best Serbian striker during this period is probably Mateja Kezman.

I think he will be an excellent striker for an Everton/Leverkusen/Fiorentina type club. Maybe Atletico Madrid and Roma. However, Real, I just can't see it.

Already signed militao too.

Its ok, when they get hazard we will be allowed to sign bale for 60m though. They get their pockets refilled, we get a shirt sales only signing. Real win, Woodward wins

I just want him to put the ball in the net and nothing too fancy aside from that. Last season I wanted the team to get Werner as he seemed a good prospect and what a modern striker should be. I'm not seen much of this Jovic guy but some people are claiming his better than Werner but as long as he's a good finisher he should fit in the club with the likes of Hazard also joining. Perhaps the must challenging part about joining Real Madrid would be the mental aspect and how he handles the pressure, expectations, etc.

The fee is about right. They are paying for a player with great potential. It will be interesting to see how he does there. He could succeed but taking everything into consideration in my opinion he is more likely to fail. Seems just too big a jump from frankfurt to Real. From playing for a club with not much expectations, where winning more than a couple of games in row is probably considered a success. To one where they expect to win every game they play in, where every player and the manager will be scrutinised in minute details. It is a whole different world.

Also last season could have been one of those seasons where everything he touched turned into gold. Perhaps for his own development he should have played another year at Frankfurt or moved if it was possible to a team like Dortmund or similar level team. At Real he will have to hit the ground running. He won't get much time or sympathy if he isn't banging in the goals from the start.

Its simple to look only at goals scored number but Jovic's goals in the Europa League were against Marsielle (3), Lazio, Shaktar Donestk, Inter Milan, Benfica and Chelsea (2). Those are some quality sides out of whom Inter (4th in Serie A), Benfica (Portugese league winners), Doneskt and Chelsea (4th in greatestestetst league in the world) will be playing in the UCL next season while Marseille and Lazio aren't exactly poor sides; both have done decently in their leagues this season.

Compare that to Giroud's goals against BATE Borisov, PAOK, Vidi, Malmo, Dynamo Kiev, Slavia Prague and Arsenal. So, yea, you can't even compare Giroud's goals with Jovic's.

If you have seen enough of Jovic, you can see immediately that he is a class striker and has all the attributes to be one of the best in the world. Good with both feet, a very good header of the ball and can also hold the ball with his strong physique and technical ability. He can also switch to the wing and play incisive passes, lets see who Madrid pair him up with.

He's going to be a big hit in La Liga IMO, I would have been excited to see him at United, but he's an instinctive striker that is going to rely on service that I'm not sure he will get next season here, especially if Pogba were to leave. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does there. As far as the low fee, it's a good deal for everybody, even Eintracht Frankfurt who got him for, what, 6m? They get to sell him for 10x what they got him for. Everybody wins.

Very talented player in fact at 21 years old.

He can be a next Messi or Ronaldo, also can be next Adriano Denilson, Cassano, Adam Johnson or Balotelli.

Living style and attitude determine his future. I am not sure will Zidane good enough to bring out his best, but I am sure if he is under Mourinho, his talent will be limited like Martial.

Seems like his multiple goal hauls makes his tally more impressive than it should be. If he only scored in 9 budesliga games, then I'd like to know what he has doing in the other 23 games he played.

Not wrong, but I think some perspective is needed.

Jovic scored in 11 of 32 games (one was a pen), but he also played limited minutes, as Hütter rotated his team quite a bit this season. (Started 25, subbed in 7x, subbed out 11x.) His goal/assist output was very consistent in his first 21 BL games, so it's everyone's choice how they rate that in the light of the final 11 games, where he had a serious drought. (The whole team had a pretty horrible end to the season, dropping from 4th to 7th.) In the EL he scored in 9/14 games, and not exactly against dross.

I only watched a couple of Frankfurt's games, but I guess it's safe to say that their attack worked very much as a collective and shared the offensive workload (Haller, Jovic, Rebic & the wingbacks, especially Kostic; also Gacinovic to an extent). Jovic always seemed the most goal-oriented of the bunch, perhaps others can say how he fared overall.

But at age 21 & after his first full pro season as a starter, it's clear that Madrid still buys potential, not the finished article.

Hmm he’s exactly the type of striker United needed to modernise our attack. Bummers.

I'm not sure if the bolded part was intended as a joke, but he will never be the next Messi or Ronaldo. The others are also very random examples of extreme characters or circumstances. I'd bet my house that he will never be the next Cassano or Balotelli either, because he has not shown any of their peculiar character quirks so far at all.

In my opinion, if Jović can be "a Morientes" or "a David Villa", i.e. a rounded reliable goal scorer, Madrid will have done very well.

Frankfurt had quite a tough run in the EL with Chelsea, Benfica, Inter, Lazio, Donezk and Marseille, against whom he all scored.

But overall I agree with you, he's an excellent finisher who had now two good/great seasons but I don't see him as a generational talent so the price seems fair. I don't know why everyone acts as if Real commited daylight robbery.
I actually think the step might be too early/soon for him, gonna stick my neck out and say that he won't reach absolute WC level. Someone named Dzeko as a comparison, that career trajectory seems more realistically to me.

It's an impressive run in a tournament and he clearly has ability, but one good season in the Europa League coupled with 17 league goals is hardly something unheard of for a young striker. He's had a great season and off the back of that about 60 mill ish seems fair, I was just surprised by people saying Madrid had robbed them/got an absolute bargain, it seems a very reasonable price for both parties.
